661  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: bitcoinity.org/markets - live bitcoin price charts on: February 17, 2014, 02:17:48 AM
Maybe it is time to remove the MtGox charts, because its not relevant any more.

If there is Bitcoin on the exchange (which is anyone's guess) and there is active trade (which there is) you cannot claim that it is irrelevant.

Shit it might be, irrelevant it definitely isn't

yes but it should be moved down and never show up as the default for any currency imho (it is currently the default if you click EUR come on...)

:-(

Very much agree with John.
The mtgox prices should not be shown as default.
662  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin trading on: February 17, 2014, 02:13:32 AM
I read some horrible reviews for coinbase, dont use them

Care to elaborate a bit, or share some links?  Huh
663  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Obligatory I'm not dead or running post on: February 17, 2014, 01:30:34 AM
How do you know the person which gave back 1000 BTC is not the same person which received the 1000 BTC?

The address that held the 1000 BTC was confirmed to be under the control of John K. Then it moved back to Theymos. And then he signed a message stating that he returned it.

Even without the GPG signed messages, just look at the blockchain. Someone got 1000 BTC. It sat there for a long time. Then it went back to someone else.

I guess what he really want to say is, what if "John K" is just a sockpuppet of Theymos...
664  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Escrow question on: February 17, 2014, 12:56:17 AM
Can some one guide me through the escrow process every little detail please what the buyer/seller needs to do and what the escrow supplier does too.

I'm going to be needing a escrow for trading and I would like to know all the steps in order to achieve a successful trade and know that nothing can go wrong can someone please list steps which each person does?

Say you are buying an ASIC from a seller, and ask Ella to provide escrow.

1. You contact the seller and make a deal.
2. Both you and the seller confirm the trade details with Ella.
3. You send bitcoin to Ella's address. Ella then tells the seller to ship the ASIC to you.
4. You receive the product. You then tell Ella you are happy with the product, and Ella releases the bitcoin to Amy.

665  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: games shop with BTC on: February 17, 2014, 12:36:46 AM
Hi all,

I'm new here and at getting BTC, so wondering where I could buy games directly with bit coins? Is there any good sites?

And is there any sites where I can play games for BTC?

Thanks for all responses Smiley

I only know Humble Bundle (https://www.humblebundle.com/)  Smiley
666  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: china btc exchange platform seems to have a problem on: February 17, 2014, 12:28:49 AM
ok, it has been restored.

Good to hear that......

Just checked the website, and it seems the trade volume there is much lower than Huobi and OKcoin...
667  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Activity on: February 17, 2014, 12:13:22 AM
The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every 30 minutes.

So, your activity level can at most go up 14 for every 2 weeks (using linux time).

That's the answer.
Thanks to Sonny for quoting "Theymos" - this information is 100% true Smiley

No problem lol  Wink

BTW, you can find also info about activity and membergroup in a sticky thread in meta.

IIRC, the biggest Chinese exchange is Huobi.
And before that, it was OKcoin and btcchina...

670  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can I buy Bitcoins with a Visa Debit? on: February 17, 2014, 12:06:43 AM
Welcome, RoyFour Smiley

Here is the best (and possibly the only) way: withdraw $10 from your card and use the cash to buy BTC face-to-face through LocalBitcoins.com.

+1 to odolvlobo's suggestion. It would be better for you find some cash trade near you in this case.

671  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Site coiming soon ... on: February 17, 2014, 12:03:29 AM
Most importantly, your coins will need to have unique features other than the name, else your hard work may end up being a waste of effort. Under this assumption, it may be a good idea to look for inspiration on existing altcoin sites, there is no need to reinvent the wheel. Also remember that a website alone will not sell a new altcoin.

It seems you have misunderstood OP...
I guess OP is making a site for altcoin news, guide to do altcoin mining, altcoin exchange rates, etc.
So, OP is not really creating a new altcoin...
672  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Im starting out, advice please on: February 16, 2014, 11:59:08 PM
You think the value per btc will go up again soon??

To me, definitely yes.  Cheesy
But I guess you can only get a biased opinion here in bitcointalk lol.  Wink
673  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can someone explain the mt gox situation to me? on: February 16, 2014, 11:27:10 PM
Can you even create and account at mt gox to buy? If you can are you able to even send btc to coinbase?

Yes, you can create an account and deposit your money to mtgox.
But, you will not be able to withdraw your btc or usd easily lol.

People have been waiting for their USD withdrawals for months, and now mtgox even stops btc withdrawals. Many people (incl. me) believe mtgox is dying already and I would suggest you to stay away from it.
674  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Im starting out, advice please on: February 16, 2014, 11:24:15 PM
I can get it for less than 1000, about 800. According to the calculators with the power usage of these units i can make on average £300 a month so could make my roi in 3 months

Have you take the difficulty adjustment (every 2016 blocks) into consideration?
With difficulty going up ~20% every 2016 blocks (around 12 days), you mining revenue will drop by ~17% every 12 days...
675  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Im starting out, advice please on: February 16, 2014, 11:15:00 PM
Even if i can get a 220gh/s asic miner?? Still not profitable?

Unless you can get it at a cheap price (I mean, really really really very cheap price)...

You can check your profitable with a profit calculator before buying any hardware or hashrate.

676  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Find places to earn and win FREE Bitcoin - Feedback welcome! on: February 16, 2014, 11:13:03 PM
thanks sonny for the suggestion- I was thinking of looking into that  - just very new to this forum. Where is the best place to find sigs?

No problem.

You can find different sig ad programs (and some other services) here.

Be careful to check the terms, as some of them require you to have a minimum level of post count or activity.
677  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Friend Needs Help -- Can't Post on: February 16, 2014, 11:11:07 PM
It's a rule, he needs to increase his activity by posting more and it's going to be gone after a while, I'm having the same issue right now.

Your activity level can at most go up 14 for every 2 weeks (using linux time).

The way activity is calculated:
The activity number is determined in this way:
time = number of two-week periods in which you've posted since your registration
activity = min(time * 14, posts)

Activity is updated every 30 minutes.

So, if your sole purpose is to reduce the time limit, you only need to make 1 post every day. Wink
678  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Im starting out, advice please on: February 16, 2014, 11:06:19 PM
I have a max budget of £1000 to get started, any advice whats the best equipment to buy so i can started quicker and earn enough back to buy more equipment.

I guess you should just stay away from bitcoin mining, as it will be very hard to have any profit.
IMHO, You should simply buy some cheap bitcoin directly Smiley
679  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Newbie Friend Needs Help -- Can't Post on: February 16, 2014, 11:02:55 PM
Apart from logging in, searching and signing up will also reset the timer...  Smiley

This is important info that should be in the readme.

It was in the readme when I was a newbie lol, but I have no idea why and when that piece of info has been deleted Smiley
