Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Games 4 Bitcoins - Use bitcoins to buy games.

Made an order on site for 0.4 BTC. Page says "Most orders take only 10 - 30 minutes but in some cases it can take upto 12 hours." It's been 49 hours... Don't want to say I've been scammed, but it seems like the case. Also, tried contacting support ( support@games4bitcoins.ca) and the email address does not exist (email gets bounced back). Still, I do have some hope left, but not much, as I did try to contact in many different ways, including on this site.

Anyone know exactly why bitcoin is falling again? Not that it bothers me too much, just wondering what's happening in the markets to get people scared enough to start selling this much?

coffee is legal, why the hell would you want to use bitcoins for that
LOL !!! Sadly though, even though it's funny here, many people have a misconception about bitcoins, and that it's used mostly for illegl things. I here this all the time. While this is far from the trueth, hopefully there will be some positive marketting coming from the bigger investors some time soon.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Question] Is it traceable After changing to Altercoin?
|
on: December 15, 2013, 09:32:36 PM

It's always theoretically traceable. If they go to the person who sold you the bitcoins, and have a way to make him talk, he'll say who he sold it to, etc. They can always, person by person, get to the source. But practically, hard to trace. Since if one middleman dies at any point, traceability is hard to go from there.

This thread is a tribute to all the haters in modern history:
1. The car is a fad. Horses will never stop seeing use. 2. Telephone? that's a child's toy, it'll never become mainstreem. 3. Television? People will get tired of staring at a little box in their house.
Could go on forever.
+1 bro, very correct. Nope. He is completely wrong. Comparing apples with oranges is not an appropriate argument. I am not wrong at all. OP is scared that bitcoin will fail because people in power don't like change. My examples are ALL of huge changes that have indeed happened. Changes in currency will eventually ahppen whether people like it or not.

I don't htink that's necessarily true. If they buy the bitcoins a month before paying the salaries, things should go well. Things will only go badly if they decide to wait until endo f month to pay via bitcoin, and the price tripples in said month...

I Can't quite find the source right now (a bit lazy), but there's an entire town in Chile that will only be working with bitcoins as their currency. Lots of rich people bought a gigantic area and will work mainly with BTC as a form of payment. Read this on the news I believe a few weeks ago.
that is a town that will last about a minute . the price of coins could drop to 100 or less in an instant and the great depression will ruin them . Anyone holding their savings in bitcoin would be on the welfare line . the USA gov is going to find a way to put a stick in the spokes of this bike and flip it . they will keep illegally going after domain names and busting sites like silk road by way of busting their employees that will snitch and other tactics and all that cracks the confidence of bitcoin holders . bitcoin is for playing with to make some quick cash or just have a good time and for buying illegal products on Tor end of story This makes no sense. First of all, it's in Chile, so US governemnt doesn't have much say about what they can, and can not do... Second of all, why would the price drop to 100?

This is great news. Hopefully other companies will soon follow suit and we'll see some real rises in bitcoin prices. Just curious, price has really stabilized in the last few days. You guys think it will go back to 1200 soon?

I believe miners can gamble. But how about miners who are minors? Can miners even be minors? And gambling... at what point is it a good idea. Nobody should ever gamble (Again, depends on your definition of gamble).

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Average investment in the BIT Trust is $700k

Right now, it's just a lot for your average person to understand/figure out how to buy bitcoin. It seems easy to all of us, but when I talk about it with other people, they get a sneer and look at it like it's some sort of scammish fad...
I talked about it with my father, who is in his 70's, and when he heard that you have to buy the currency from another person, not a financial institution, it was like someone standing behind me started waving a banner with "scam" written on it. Even though older people have been scammed by the system many times, they would still support it over these mysterious computer network made by some youngsters who don't know real life... Somebody said that we aren't ready for BTC yet and he might be right. I had the exact same experience. First question was "Do I have to send the money first to receive them". Automatic scam alert is what people get. Hopefully things will get easier as time goes by.

The geek factor of bitcoins is so high I just realised. There is still so much work to do so that the average consumer can finally feel comfortable workgin wtih BTC. Then again, the mining operation of gold is also very complex, yet the consumer has no idea what goes on to find gold. Can't wait for user friendly wallets to come out.

simple answer:
0 confirmation transactions are safer than you think, its still way harder than chargeback on a credit card
starbucks has cameras, if you steal from them than they call the police
Yes, another elegant way to put it. Plus, just because your bitcoins are anonymous to an extent in your wallet, who's to say most companies won't ask for ID before you make your bitcoin payment. So if you were to double spend, they'd at least have a photo ID scanned to send to the police. Double spending is also not THAT easy to do.
