61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: May 08, 2013, 10:45:13 AM

Wired's math skills make mine look absolutely genius and we all know that's not true. ;o)

"BTC-e and Cryptonit are two of the main exchanges that accept PPCoin. Its current value is around 0.002BTC (£0.01) per PPCoin."
vs.
"Freicoin is currently traded on Vircurex and Bter. The price per freicoin price is roughly 0.0006BTC (£0.04)."
62  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [poll] PPC as a major cryptocoin on: May 07, 2013, 06:54:21 PM
For the following reasons PPC is NOT a major crypto-currency

1. Largest trading volume ever in one day, was 7.5BTC - this is laughable edit: (apparently it's nearer 1000btc/day now)
2. PPC has very little if any news coverage as opposed to more than 65,000 articles for bitcoin
3. While the technology is innovative, it is fundamentally flawed in that 51% attacks can be performed by anyone with a decent volume of coins, and nobody can predict who/when they will occur.
4. The biggest exchanges aren't even thinking about using PPC (unlike LTC for example)
5. Nobody is really accepting either sales or donations in PPC (again unlike LTC)

The market cap figures of "$4mil" is completely ludicrous considering the highest volume in a single days trade was equiDon't get me wrong, I hate LTC because its a refuge for miners, however it is a major cryptocurrency. PPC isn't.

My suspicion is that OP of the Alt-Coins list is using the list to ramp his own holdings.valent of $750

Figured I'd help you clean up your rationale.
1. It's been over 200+ on vircurex for quite some time. Since going to btc-e it's been a lot higher.
2. Not much I can say about this. News articles are growing.
3. I don't know a lot about stake. I tend to ask quite a few questions. I do know that for someone to 51% they'd have to have enough stake that they've been sitting on for at least 30 days to solve consecutive POS blocks and have enough hash to take pow blocks. I think it would be quite expensive. Also your statement about predicting 51% attacks, if you can predict when they will occur on other blockchains you can probably stop mining and just set up a 51% attack warning subscription service.
4. I consider btc-e a large exchange. If you are referring to gox they said they were considering multiple currencies just because they haven't accepted ppc yet, wait they did accept ltc already didn't they? lmao
5. Anonymous is accepting it are they nobody?

That's it nothing more to say from me. I just think you shot from the hip thinking it would be an easy shot when you should have taken aim.
63  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: May 07, 2013, 04:54:59 PM
Sunny,
Are there any plans to add some more features to the stake generation? I think it would be nice to have a balance shown for stake eligible coins.
Basically on the client overview page:

Balance: 1000
Stake Eligible: 500
Stake Eligible Coin age: 60
Average Coin age in wallet: 25

Not that all of those fields are required, just brainstorming.

Maybe there is a way to look that information up that I'm not aware, but POS is the one mystery that very few really understand, at least it appears so to me with all of the questions I see and that I've asked.

Maybe with more information available in the client PPC's acceptance will accelerate as more people will understand how POS works.

Also instead of calling it "Stake" is there any reason not to call it "Interest (POS)" or something along those lines? Joe the plumber wouldn't know what stake was, but interest he would be all over.
64  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: May 07, 2013, 01:38:23 PM
Thanks.
For some reason I was under the impression stake showed potential interest/stake that I hadn't yet solved a block for.
65  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: May 07, 2013, 12:47:11 PM

sorry to derail the hard coinage discussion.

I have a question about proof of stake.  I now have some coin in my wallet with at least 30 coindays.  My wallet is 'currently unlocked for block minting only'

Do I have to do anything else?
I do not see any balance with Stake:  0

I have at least 10 solo blocks that are more then 30 days old. help

Jim

I'm interested also in this answer as I've got a couple transactions that I believe are 31 and 33 days, but stake also shows 0.
Thanks.

Take for example Kum -n- Go gas stations.
lol, I almost felt from my chair Cheesy
But I think it isn't the best example, never heard of it Tongue

I myself think you underestimate the importance of good branding, Eco-Coin with a nice matching logo and good informative website probably will gain a lot more users than it would cost. Eco is hot, and could get it adopted by people outside the btc community.  Wink

PPcoin isn't a name that bothers me, but it surely doesn't represent the coins most important future.

lol yeah it was the most obnoxious example I could think of ;o)

I do agree that ppcoin.org and its branding could use a revamp. I mean what's up with that plate with maple, oak, and horse chestnut leaves on it.

I'm not really sure what that signifies?

Ahh green leaves = earth friendly = energy efficient. Ok I get it now ;o)
68  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: April 29, 2013, 10:44:38 PM
You probably have heard it a thousand times already, but i would also like the name to be changed.

PPC has by far the most interesting design out here, but i just can't take the name seriously. It's something small, but as long as people feel weird about the name, they will really hold back on embracing it.
Rebranding (if at all possible, i don't know the details of how that would work) would probably improve the popularity a lot.
Make sure you do this right though, don't just change the name without anouncement, make sure to inform people on beforehand so they don't go like "hu where did PPC go? :p"

Kind regards

I strongly agree that a name change should be done to increase the popularity and usage of peer coin. Marketing is extremely important to generating public awareness and adaptability. I really love PPC coin and the innovation that it provides, and props to you Sunny. But the name's gotta change. Seriously.

PPC is already a hugely popular acronym in the Internet Marketing world, as it stands for Pay per click advertising. It would take a lot of resources to educate people on the distinction. The majority of the search results on Google will show listings for Pay-per click advertising. So if people here the word PPC coin and they Google this, they won't find out what they are looking for and therefore we limit the word by word marketing. Furthermore, PPCoin looks terrible and it's not as catchy as bitcoin, litecoin or feather coin. Why if paypal announces their own coin in the future? It will likely be called PPC. PayPal Coin. Because of their huge user base, our coin will go into obscurity.

I don't mind the name Peer, but the website should have been PeerCoin instead and abbreviated PRC.

Alternative would be P2P Coin; also known as Peer to Peer Coin

Just looking at the rapid growth of FeatherCoin and how well it has been marketed...we can really learn some lessons from them.

Please hear us out, Sunny!

Relying on a superior technology alone does mean that it will succeed. We need more people to adapt this coin and begin accepting it as payment. I believe a marketing play is needed here. Having a name that's easy to relate to and pronounce can increase the amount of buzz generated. Furthermore, breaking down the concepts used in this coin to layman terms is key to translating the superiority of this over Bitcoin and Litecoin.

For those that say the name doesn't matter. Branding is very important. Why else would companies spend so much money on marketing and conduct all these market survey research?

Innovations in technology have not succeeded based only on the merits of their utility. Rather, it is often the ability of this new technology to relate to society that drives such successes.

What I'm afraid of happening is that someone in the future will come up with a better brandable name and rip off the same code and achieve more success.

Your alternative suggestion is a great idea. Unfortunately it is already used ;o)

PPCoin also known as Peer to Peer coin, Peercoin, PPC and P2PCoin is the first known crypto-currency based on an implementation of a combined Proof of Stake
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PPCoin

The name does and doesn't matter. Take for example Kum -n- Go gas stations. Soccer moms still use them despite the name lol.

I do agree that ppcoin.org and its branding could use a revamp. I mean what's up with that plate with maple, oak, and horse chestnut leaves on it.

69  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PPC] PPCoin Released! - First Long-Term Energy-Efficient Crypto-Currency on: April 20, 2013, 02:35:43 AM
PPC rocks
Don't change the name. I think you all who want to change the name are thinking of peepee coin when you should be thinking of peer2peer coin.

POS love it.
In my humble opinion the problem the general public has with bitcoin is that "These miners" are just creating the currency out of thin air and that they are profiting from nothing. With proof of stake it gives the average person who wants to buy in a way of generating income without running massive computers.

And a question:

So in POS (sorry I didn't read through all pages and this probably has been addressed) are first coins seen first coins spent?

So I receive 50 coins on 1/1/xx, receive 5000 coins on 1/10/xx, spend 50 on 1/15/xx.

Are my first POS eligible coins on 2/1/xx or on 2/10/xx?

edit*(Corrected the date above to 2/x and to say assuming 1/1 to 2/1 = 30 days)

Thanks.
70  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [5000 GH] BTC Guild - PPS, PPLNS with TxFees+Orphans, Stratum+Vardiff ASIC Ready on: February 13, 2013, 02:03:54 PM
My shares per shift is going down coinciding with the overall pool hash going up and not by a negligable amount.

I am getting at least 40% less shares consistently than when the pool hash was between 3-3.5K. Sad

Also a month or two back where all miners had to restart their machines/proxy to reconnect I was getting +25% shares per shift consistently until miners reconnected.

Sorry but I may have to switch pools. I'd rather not as I have the least problems with your pool, but a little hassle is better than a 1-3% fee and a 40% share loss.

If I understand you correctly, that is the expected behaviour for PPLNS. As the hashrate increases, you get fewer shares per shift, but the same number of shares per day and the same number of coin per week.

Ahh good point. Thank you. I feel stupid... Thanks ;o) Staying with BTCGuild Yea!

72  Economy / Speculation / Re: All classic sings for another drop soon. on: November 05, 2011, 01:13:03 AM
All the classic sings that this mini rally is going to turn lower. Just like how it has done many times before. Price has been stagnant for a few days, volume is dropping, price is slowly creeping towards the resistance point.

Is this the rinse and repeat that the market manipulators are using to cash out money from many of you fools on here? Push the price up higher, sell a bunch at that higher price, let the price drop lower.

Is it a manipulator who is trying to protect his huge 100,000K Plus coin bitcoin investment and can't muscle propping up the whole market by his bid walls.

I do not know, but one thing looks almost certain, a reversal that will drop below $3.00, and start heading to the $2.00 resistance point.

Someone has to ask the question...

Who is All Classic I haven't heard their music? hahahaha

Don't do bit.ly any more.

Post the actual link and I'll consider it.

EDIT

Just looked at Boounce.com

Not downloading anything just for search capabilities.

Don't bother fixing the link.

^Ditto, Url shorteners are good for twitter type, but they completely obfuscate the destination trojan waiting on the other end. Not worth the risk...

I was out of town and just got back. I could have had some other issue (internet connection).

Most likely it is my end as preceding round and following are both showing much less than I would normally get, but just wanted to double check.

Thanks for any who can confirm theirs are normal.

80  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Smartcoin Linux mining administration. [NEW LOCKUP DETECTION & FAILOVER SUPPORT] on: July 20, 2011, 11:05:47 PM
I want to donate and currently do, but can you lower the aggression level you have set for the donation period? My machines basically are frozen when donation runs.

The donation profile uses the miner flagged as default. You can change the default miner and/or the options used by that miner (such as aggression) in the Configure Miners -> Edit.

The special donation profile was written before failover was implemented. I'm thinking in the future, that I will rewrite the donation profile to use failover (instead of multiple instances), which would also help out.

Thanks Jon I'll double check that.
