161  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcing GekkoScience's new USB stick miner, the aptly-named NewPac on: November 22, 2018, 02:58:35 PM
This post is addressed at a few previous ones

do i need to simply disable it or some other remedy?

Unfortunately, there is not alot of options for the Intel USB 3 bug. You can try running the sticks on the USB 2.0 side but that doesnt always work. the USB2 would usually be the ports with the black inner piece apposed to the blue inner piece (USB3). most case front ones are, they have the smaller connector on the motherboard.

I ended up having to use a different PC completely. (admittedly, the first was a laptop and all the ports tied back to the USB3 controller.)

With these sticks, a little bit of cooling goes a long long way. Note that the uncooled 100MHz power draw and the slightly-cooled 200MHz power draw are pretty much the same. My six 650MHz sticks (drawing 14W each) were collectively cooled by a single 12V/200mA fan.

Also note that these guys can be sensitive to extended overheating. Bake the chips too much and they may never work right again.

if your running a single stick, it will run at 100 Mhz passively cooled, we test all our sticks this way because most people that buy from us, buy single sticks and dont understand or care to read. They just plug it in and throw out the instructions.
If you increase quantity or speed, they HAVE to be actively cooled and a handful of "sensitive" sticks require active cooling even at 100Mhz.

Sipolar is in NY customs hoping to have it early next week then I will be purchasing more of these to fill it up.

Thinking about modifying an extra L3 chassis(if the Siploar will fit inside) to make a wind tunnel-ish type setup. Thoughts or suggestions?

While I like the SiPolar 10port, I prefer the Plugable 7 port (and not just beaause we sell them). It's half the cost and will run 4 sticks and USB fans reliably at most speeds. (same one SideHack used in the first post pictures)
I'll be doing some testing this weekend of the SiPolar to see how many and at what speed it can reliably run before we start to see degradation.

While this may not be your issue, I found it the hard way. You may want to check to see if your USB controller is and "Intel USB 3.0 eXensible Host Controller". It was a problem with the 2PAC's and the NewPac looks to be experiencing the same issue.

all running on the sipolar 10 port?
165  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcing GekkoScience's new USB stick miner, the aptly-named NewPac on: November 09, 2018, 02:35:24 PM
Nice work :O Anyone got these in stock in EU?

Not stocked but we do ship internationally.
you can also check out our eBay listing for smaller orders that will ship to most countries

Havent ordered yet. I was going to through your ebay listing but im struggling to find a decent hub to power them here in the UK. I was looking at the sipolar 10 one as it looks beefy and able to cope well with the power draw. Most UK ones are standard types with rubbish power ratings.

this is the one we are adding to our offered inventory this weekend.
https://plugable.com/products/usb2-hub7bc/

its fairly solid and can run 4 sticks reliably.

Send me a DM with what kind of quantities your looking for, I will run the international shipping quote directly and get you some hard numbers.

Thats great. Only trouble is now is that you dont ship to the U.K lol

gt_addict, did you ever get your U.K order figured out? if not send me a P.M. Ill see what we can do for the international shipping.

This is really interesting, I want to try it out. I wanted to ask, what is the benefit over buying something like  a S9.. current prices are like 250-300.  Comparing similar ASIC chip coUnts will this setup burn less energy compared to an Bitmain machine ?  Non the less, Amazing work for the community!

you can buy a refurbish s9 for that price, plus a power supply (around $150), but remember these require 1600W of power. the GekkoScience USB units are a great alternative for low power mining. I know a lot of my international customers don't even have the option of running that kind of power.
169  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcing GekkoScience's new USB stick miner, the aptly-named NewPac on: November 03, 2018, 04:12:11 AM
not quite, it was actually a 2PAC sale re-purposed to save on listing and advertising costs. but these will go fast I'm sure, just need to "get the word out"
170  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcing GekkoScience's new USB stick miner, the aptly-named NewPac on: November 03, 2018, 12:35:04 AM
true, we don't currently offer international shipping from our website, but we do via eBay...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/253271572863

and P.S. for anyone else watching, Bitcoin is a checkout option on our site now as well.

We currently accept paypal, not BTC at the moment, our creditcard/btc processing underwriter just dropped us (bitcoin is to high risk) and we are evaluating others and should have it back up in the next few days.

I had figured on putting the new one in a case at the factory.

Ya, i figured I could make something that would "snap" on the side of your case.
174  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R808 Miner Official Support Thread on: August 30, 2018, 11:43:23 PM
Cool, thanks. I've been looking for a HP power supply. @jstefanop announced a scrypt miner so maybe I can run my Terminus R808 and Apollo on the same power supply! Wink

these do look kinda awsome, Ive been tinkering with a raspberry pi/R808 combination that would work the same way. I dont want to produce the new 3d printed case though till I get ahold of the new model from sidehack
175  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R808 Miner Official Support Thread on: August 29, 2018, 11:08:25 PM
I know this is an "old" thread, but I wanted to place a heads up for anyone that gets this far,

You can run the Terminus R808's stable from a barrel connected power brick, just don't by uncertified junk imported from china from Amazon for $10.

We run single R808s at 275Mhz with 0 HW or heat issues off good quality power bricks(yes we sell them) and for larger scale multi unit mining, you can also get a GekkoScience Power Breakoutboard kit and a HP Universal power supply for around $100, if you cant find a good "PC Tower" power supply that fits your needs.

I'm basically running the same setup and have the same fluctuation as you, I think is normal.

Might depend on the pool or coin you mining, I am mining BCH at ViaBTC
Ya, I was writing it off as its a lot better than running on the power bricks. I could only get the same Terminus units up to 225 on single unit power bricks.
CGMiners been running for about 1 1/2 hours now at 250Mhz and 0 HW errors. I'll take those fluctuations for this stability. and ya, its BTC on ckpool
177  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R808 Miner Official Support Thread on: April 06, 2018, 01:43:58 AM
What's your controller setup? Because at 250MHz you should be seeing 110GH each.
The units are fluctuating between ~95G and ~140G the average is slowing climbing. sitting at just over 101 each right now.
Im running 3 off of a laptop, each in its own USB port right now. It might be the Intel USB 3.0 controller if that still effects the Terminus as well.
178  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R808 Miner Official Support Thread on: April 06, 2018, 01:29:47 AM
ok so heres my update for the day.

Running 3 Terminus on a HP 750 commonslot power supply/Breakout board and getting a SOLID 250mhz from each.  definately a lot more stable than the 6A power bricks. and currently only pulling 170W at the wall.

I have a prototype power brick on order from my China supplier that I will test when they come in, they claim its rated at 7A with a 88% efficiency. It may be a bit overkill, but the power variances were very tight and its reasonably priced.
I also have  a sipolar hub on order and will add more Terminus when that comes in.
179  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Terminus R808 Miner Official Support Thread on: March 20, 2018, 11:31:36 PM
can i get any server psu with any breakout board?
as long as you make sure the break out board works with the power supply you choose (THEY HAVE TO MATCH).
I usually recommend complete kits, you know they are paired correctly.

This one is a 750w power supply, break out board and 10 power cables.

How is the noise on the power supply fan?
Its a server power supply so the fan can get rather noisy but its not going to as loud as say 10 Terminus miners running.

How would I run multiple Terminus R808 using the one power supply?
You would need a breakout board and 6pin to 6pin power cables. one 750 watt power supply would be enough to run around 10 - 11 Pods around 225Mhz (60 watts each)
