601  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wow. Stanford University publishes excelent description of the bitcoin network on: February 19, 2014, 09:29:08 PM
The shocking part is how many economic experts get bitcoin soooooo wrong. These people seem to have read Satoshi's white paper before opening their mouths.

I don't think most of them WANT TO understand bitcoin. They're invested in the current old, outdated system. And if they don't want to change, the world will change without them.
602  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wow. Stanford University publishes excelent description of the bitcoin network on: February 19, 2014, 09:04:34 PM
It seems they finally understood it, it took some years but finally it is a good description, it makes sense and it grasps the concepts of the bitcoin network

Yeah but they're a high level educational institution. They SHOULD get it. Transmitting this to your average person is a different matter  Undecided

Can't believe we (Russia) lost to Finland so bad...3-1. Played too offensively at the beginning and let in 3 goals quickly. Really sad because we had the momentum for the rest of the game but couldn't score anything. The Fins were the better team though, and they played as a team, especially when they were defending while the Russians were quite disorganized after those goals. Host country won't even get a medal Sad I share Putin's reaction.

604  Economy / Speculation / Re: 2014 is NOT the year of bitcoin, sorry on: February 19, 2014, 08:02:45 AM
Although I agree that the expectations were way too high at the end of 2013 after the big rise, I don't think 2014 is as bad as you make it sound. It's really just the beginning of the year, and Bitcoin just successfully rode through a shitstorm of tons of negative news all happening at around the same time. And guess what, we're perfectly fine. The price has been slowly (albeit nervously) going back up. Once people get out of Gox we will see another rise. Give it time.

606  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The really good news with recent events and catalysts for price increase on: February 19, 2014, 07:51:54 AM
Honestly the latest price drop isn't so much because of really bad news, as much as a lot of small or medium negative news all happening at the same time. And these will continue to happen throughout Bitcoin's future, until it *hopefully* becomes an accepted form of currency. I don't think we will have other big negative periods like this one in 2014, but of course I can't predict the future; I'm just making a guess based on how unlikely a lot of negative news are to happen at around the same time. In terms of potential positive news in the future...hopefully people will get out of Gox and go to the solid exchanges (stamp, btc-e etc) so that should cause a notable rise.

And yeah more retailers accepting bitcoin, I mean this is going on every day, it's just that we're still waiting for that one big company to open the flood gates. I think 2014 might be that year for that big company, but definitely not right now with all the volatility and bad press.
607  Economy / Economics / Re: Are bitcoin exchange prices being manipulated? on: February 19, 2014, 07:47:31 AM
Of course they're manipulated. Whales have a HUGE impact on bitcoin prices - whenever they sell or buy over 1k+ bitcoins, the price changes significantly. It's because they have such a huge effect on the price that they have an inherent interest in manipulating bitcoin to make a profit - selling off huge amounts of coins to cause bigger dips and then buying back coins for cheap. It's a very safe method of making money.

Movie "Limitless" is pretty cool.   Definitely not award winning or anything like that, but definitely entertaining.

Limitless was really fun because it showed all the stuff that you wish you could do if you were super smart. But the ending was really shitty IMO, completely unrealistic.

So i had this dream I woke up and went to the bathroom but when I got into the living room I saw bright lights coming trough the window and unbearable noise, it was something like high frequency..
I heard something in the hallway and I immidietly jumped to hold the door because of the annoying noise, I held the door while white bright light was coming in under it but the door opened and the noise became even worse! I saw a creature and couldn't stand the noise, instinctively I rushed to punch the creature but I just passed out when my hand touched him, bright lights and I woke up..

It all felt real.

I had an urge to post this, so feel free to comment Cheesy

Yes this is very fun to watch and very impressive and ballsy, but...

That is so, so stupid. One little gust of wind, one little slip, one little mistake and you're dead.

Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999) - One of the more accurate portrayals of the rise of Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Really interesting to see how these guys went from young nobodies to famous entrepreneurs, and their crazy personalities.

615  Other / Off-topic / Re: Mathematician: Is Our Universe a Simulation? on: February 18, 2014, 07:52:54 AM
That's a pretty cool theory that actually does make a lot of sense to me. I'm not a mathematician but the amount of ORDER and LOGIC in our universe is just so obvious - it's hard to believe that it just randomly appeared out of total chaos. But in the end I don't think it really matters that much - even if we are inside a computer program, this is still real to us - we exist, we are real, and it's not all in our heads. If you really think about it, it doesn't matter if our world is "real" or not, simulated or not...as long as we decide to put meaning into our existence, that's all that matters.

If you're not going out...

Read. Watch a movie or a TV show. Watch the olympics. Play video games.

Cant believe people are paying so much for a domain name .

As I mentioned in another thread, high quality bit coin domains are being snapped up at these crazy prices. How do I know? I'm on the inside of some deals right now.

What many of you don't seem to understand because you're not average joe's but early adopters/geeks/enthusiasts is that there is a FLOOD of investor money coming into the space and what this space lacks is credibility and ease to the average person. A strong domain is one very important piece of the puzzle in getting consumer confidence. You think the average person knows what the fuck easyco.in is? Most of them if they saw this name on a billboard or ATM would go "what kind of scam address is that?" An Indian extension is supposed to make the average person feel good? Especially when The Indian government has and might be in the future seizing domains they don't like???

TRUST. The missing link in the space right now. A strong .com domain won't solve your credibility problem if your venture sucks, but if all the rest of the elements are in place, a good domain creates instant recognition.

What looks better on the side of an ATM or billboard? Easyco.in or EasyCoin.com? The guys who launched easyco.in are HANDING free traffic to the owner of Easycoin.com because the average person mistakenly remembers the .com, not the .in. This is a CLASSIC noob mistake that those of us in the biz would never make. You're handing free money to EasyCoin.com, and you're setting yourself up for all kinds of trouble if EasyCoin.com launches a competing service. Let the UDRP begin!

Wacky extensions work fine for tech plays. But for a financial company that has almost zero credibility in the mainstream marketplace, launching with a .whatever is market suicide in the short term. Sure you can overcome a bad name, but it's so much easier to gain traction with a solid, memorable .com.

BTW I know the seller of BitcoinWallet.com. It is a totally legit sale that has been vetted by DnJournal.com, the industry trade mag.

For many of you, scratching heads. But for those of us in the know, a smart move on the way to establishing a brand and traffic.

Great post. Would Read again A+++++

in every room a portrait of PUTIN Cheesy funny.. oh mother Russia

Typical jealous American. You're just jealous Putin could beat up Obama.

And he rides bears.

And he fights wolves bare-chested.

And he has a black belt in Taekwondo.

And he can survive in the Siberian wilderness.

Russia vs USA 2:2 after OT. Shoot-out coming up!

What an amazing game... And an amazing finish!

Great game indeed. Gotta say I'm pleasantly surprised by the level of competition between the players considering how many of the Russian players are playing in the NFL and some even facing their teammates. A lot of physical play. I hope this old Cold War rivalry never dies.
620  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin credit cards? on: February 14, 2014, 11:27:20 PM
Do you think a Bitcoin credit card could succeed as a mainstream form of payment?

As in, the credit card contains your wallet number as a credit card has a credit card number...

Thoughts appreciated   Grin

How do you deal with people that don't pay back what they owe? Bitcoin is decentralized, that's a big part of the innovation of the currency. Also personally, I hate credit cards. They're nothing but a way to put people into debt and buy shit they can't afford.
