I am about to switch from mining litecoins with my 2500k to a 7870 using either cgminer or reaper and I was just curious if you guys think a 500w psu would be able to power a 7870 and a core 2 duo machine with nothing else plugged in? Because if so, I'll just keep my 2500k mining on a seperate machine. and put the new card im getting into the old machine I have.

Or I could always swap my 1kw psu into the gpu miner and put the 500w one onto the 2500k machine

yes a 500w psu should do the trick for 1 card.

i've seen some suggestions that its PCIe 2.0 vrs 2.1 and a lack of compatibility but I dunno what to think about that.

For the life of me I cannot get the 945gct-m to detect my 5830. It'll run all the nividia cards I have just fine, including the gtx260. Power isn't an issue.

Suggestions?
