1  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do I proceed when MtGox refuses to communicate? on: July 03, 2011, 10:46:52 PM
Kiba, take your childish ranting elsewhere.

There are people with legitimate grievances against MtGox. Whatever your political ideology is, it's a simple fact that there are sovereign powers who can enforce contracts. You might not like those powers, and I might not either, but that's who's in charge and we can't just pretend otherwise.

I very much want to avoid going to the authorities, and I expect MtGox will resolve my issue before that becomes neccessary.

What IRC channel does magicaltux hang out in?

Edit: Can't find him in general bitcoin discussion channel or the MtGox tracker channel

Wow. Sounds like a lot of people are in the same boat.

This is very, very confusing. The amount of time it takes to close a dozen tickets over several weeks is way longer than it would take to just look up my transaction, initiate my withdrawal, and be finished. They're either completely incompetent or determined to steal my money. If this isn't resolved within another 2 weeks (at which point it will be 6 weeks since I tried to withdraw) I'll start investigating the possibilities for legal action.

Nearly one month ago, on 6 June, I initiated a withdrawal of USD from my MtGox account to my Dwolla account.

This withdrawal did not occur because of issues with the Dwolla API change. Those issues were resolved by MtGox on 10 June. They still failed to send that withdrawal despite several emails from me with the details of the missing transaction. After the hack they set up their new support desk system. I created a ticket explaining the issue, which was closed with no communication or action. I created a follow-up ticket, asking if the withdrawal was on its way. That ticket was also closed with no communication or action.

I have still not received the withdrawal. MtGox has effectively stolen my money. I sold BTC for USD, which MtGox has drained from my account and kept. How do I proceed if they just keep closing my tickets?

You need to build up some more believable dummy accounts before trying this sort of scam.

Both of your puppets so far only have 1 post.

I'm also caught up in this.

I made a medium sized (~350 USD) withdrawal in the evening on 5 June. Approximately five hours later I made a smaller withdrawal (~150 USD) in the early hours of 6 June.

The smaller withdrawal went through just fine. The larger one is missing. I finally got a reply from mtgox last night, and they said that the withdrawal had been marked for retry. I have always been happy with mtgox service, and I expect they will resolve this issue to my satisfaction. That being said, I will not engage in any more trades there until this matter is closed.

Got a reply from mtgox. It was apparently an error caused by a change to Dwolla's transfer system.

The transaction has been marked for retry. Anxiously awaiting results, will report.

Is this normal?
Yes. At the moment, this is still a one-man operation. However, MagicalTux is currently looking to hire customer service reps over in Japan, where he is based.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try to wait it out.

It's just concerning that the withdrawal I made later at night has gone through, while the withdrawal initiated 5 hours earlier is nowhere to be seen. Both are well documented on my MtGox account history, and I have had nothing but good experiences with the site so far. I'm confident this will be resolved within 48 hours.

I hope...
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / MtGox unresponsive, is there another way to contact? on: June 07, 2011, 04:55:21 PM
On the 5th I initiated two Dwolla withdrawals from my MtGox account, about 5 hours apart.

I have received the most recent one, but not the one requested 5 hours earlier. I sent an email to info@mtgox.com about 24 hours ago, with the transaction details, asking if the first withdrawal was on its way. I have received no reply.

Is this normal?

You could simply read the deepbit thread.

Doh! Missed it completely.

The website seems to be fine but the mining servers are coming and going.

It's back up.

It looks down from here, and is down according to downforeveryoneorjustme.com. [ posted at 00:32 GMT ]

Edit: The web site is down, the mining server does seem to be back online.

Hello Bitcoiners,

We all know that for Bitcoin to succeed we need more goods and services to be available for purchase with Bitcoin, rather than just more speculators.

So, I am offering tutoring by the hour online. I am a sophomore college student from Austin, Texas, and I am studying math, economics, and computer science. I can provide verification of my identity, and evidence for my current 3.93 GPA. I am willing to work with students 8+ years old on almost any subject. Tutoring will be provided online via webcam, and with the assistance of web tools like Skype, Anki, Remote Desktop, VNC, and others. The specifics can change according to your needs and capabilities.

The price per hour will depend on how much preparation is necessary for the age and learning style of the student, and the subject matter. If you are interested please contact me at bitcoin.tutor@gmail.com, and I will be happy to negotiate an hourly rate that is competitive with the cost of tutoring services in your area.

A few more notes about me for those who are interested:

I am happily married and my wife and I are approaching our first anniversary on 5 June.
I am a Bitcoin miner, with 1.5 Gh/s split between BTCGuild and Deepbit.
After high school I did a term of AmeriCorps service (like Peace Corps but in the US) working with poor urban youth in Michigan.
My hobbies and interests are reading and writing science fiction, studying math and economics, and playing basketball and board games.

Once again, please contact me at bitcoin.tutor@gmail.com if interested, and feel free to post any questions you may have in this thread or send as email.
