One of the things I'm looking forward to with smart mining is seeing what sort of increase we may get when it is released. It will give a real sense of how many people are actually using XMR. People using it locally will be fairly likely to mine to at least support the network. Speculators who keep their coins on exchanges and never really plan on using it as a currency, not so much.

Well it's not going to happen, the smart mining idea was abandoned.

Do you know something we don't? It is still in the development goals (even on currently in development) -> http://getmonero.org/design-goals/

We've been waiting for the DB/GUI for almost a year. Smart mining is not going to happen anytime soon, we are talking years here...
Unless more competent developers take over...

Well DB is here, you can use it yourself right now...

Yep. It seems we're in for a hot week. Let's hope we pump to the next leg up. I support the slow CCMF, but wouldn't mind for a huge pump up... Smiley

To be honest I think we've held up well considering there is no retail buying over the weekends, I expected a real drop from Friday until tonight. The positive feedback loop will have started and it takes time for people to rebuy who got out months ago and for the new blood to see that bitcoin isn't dead.

The security offered at the current Monero hash rate not being enough relative to the value of the moneroj being held would be one issue.  In other words, there's still always the possibility of someone coming along and deciding to fork Monero with a 51% attack, based on the amount of hashing power that Monero currently has. At least we're using a different hashing algorithm than Bitcoin, or people could've/would've gone at Monero directly.

I'm sure the hash rate will pick up along with the price as general miners begin to mine it. It is one of the things with this coin that botnets are able to mine it at 0 cost which reduces the number of people able to mine it profitably or break even to secure the network.

Very sad to see Ibrahimovic not being able to play in the next match.

The referee was horrible, I guess he pulled the red card because the Chelsea players jumped on him loudly. It was a yellow card at most.

If that, it certainly wasn't a red. He summed it up perfectly when he said he felt like he had 11 babies around him.
508  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 14, 2015, 04:08:03 AM
So I just lost a bunch of monero in the cryptocoins-dice.com website. It was doing well in terms of having a good APR being apart of the house and taking a cut of the houses' edge, but then today the entire website up and vanished. There was at a bare minimum of 50,000 XMR there from investors funds (plus whatever gamblers kept there) that the owner ran off with. He may have been selling them over the past few days before he ran off which could explain the recent selling activity on Poloneix.

We can either expect a dump incoming soon or a price increase soon depending on when he will dump his XMR or if he has already dumped his xmr. That is my speculation anyways.

Wow, what a shame, what can I say other than sorry. I know a lot of people like to play dice and with this development I am extremely tempted to set up a dice site myself. At least that way customers know that the admin is legit and not going to run off with funds. Excuse the language but FUCKERS. If you're reading this you are a coward and I hope karma comes and bites you in the ass.

I got some friends which got out of DRK just now, they are not leaving because of the name change.
They got the oppinion that BTC is topping around 300 $, and so they get rid of theire alts, and also of the BTC before BTC drops (what they think it'll do).
From there point of view this makes sense, if you think BTC will drop from here, your alt $ value will drop, too, so its a good exit point for them.

Just saying, there is maybe more than just a name change, its more a problem that the alts are all traded against BTC. (So if BTC goes down and you stay in an alt, which seems to drop, too, its just logically to get out, before you make double the loss because of the alt and btc.)

Traditionally alts have gone down against btc during beginnings of run ups and then gone up again nearer ath's as people look to diversify so it's not a bad conclusion.

Crossposting for awareness:

Bump. Please vote. We've always done really well on these polls. This one not so much.

What a joke though, they're including coins which are basically dead. Maxcoin  Huh

It's so hard to write a book like that with the speed that half these cryptos come and go with.

All the buys that are happening on Finex are on margin it's not good and it's not healthy.

Pretty boring Wink. I prefer fast dump or fast rocket than this.

It looks like market is waiting for some whale move.

The whales have been selling into the overly bullishness the last couple of days  Wink

Yes, you're right. Smiley Smth like "near-flat silent distribution" with 3 fake attempts to break 300.

But I don't think we're going very low, maybe 260-270 (?). I'm bullish in mid and bearish in short.

Mid/long taders can close ex and charts for few weeks and don't think too much about price.

Better correction now and then up than fast 350$ pump and strong downtrend like January.

I'm thinking a test $270, been calling it for days. Keeps the uptrend in tact. There's just too many god damn longs!

Well done on the pool fixes, can only imagine how much a nefarious character could have been gaining if the vulnerability has been there since the beginning. Scary stuff and a shame for all the honest miners out there.
515  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 13, 2015, 05:57:19 PM
I like the volume that came in when breaking below 290, feels like some stop loss was triggered and poeple Immediately bought the resulting coins.

now volume is winding down, and we appear to want to be going higher already. in the next 24-48hours I predict we'll be breaking up, popping over 295 resistance, knocking on 300 once or twice with 295 as support, and BAM high volume buys drive price to 310-320 maybe even seeing a second leg to 350.

I'm not so sure, we still have retail buying today which I feel is keeping the price up and keeping people holding on to those outrageously expensive longs (0.1% PER DAY!). I think so many people were holding onto longs waiting to sell over $300 that if the price dribbles down over the weekend they will close. Particularly ones held from lower down. In my opinion there are just too many people waiting to take profit (at least $3-4mill worth), we need to drop them off first and pick up some shorts to really get the fuel to pop over and stay over $300 for good.

While the XMR market is slow you may be tempted to sell, instead come short the EURO on 1broker and hodl your XMR Grin.

More direct Fiat/XMR exchange would help move XMR out of the whole "altcoin" space into that of a more "independent" currency.

This.

Speaking of, there is currently a Tether USD to XMR market on Poloniex. I also noticed that Bitfinex supports Tether USD, and that they are Tether's current exchange partner. Given that I am based in the United States and in one of the states that the Tether beta themselves isn't currently supporting, they instruct such individuals like me to access Tether through Bitfinex. Assuming that I can actually jump through Bitfinex's KYC hoops, will it be possible to deposit USD from a checking account to Bitfinex, then convert it to Tether USD, and withdraw it to Poloniex to buy Moneroj? What are the fees involved if this path is, indeed, possible?

There is no volume so it is a futile excersise. Why would you not buy with btc? How would you normally buy btc? Btw there is no real kyc for deposits to finex so wire transfer > finex > btc > xmr
520  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 11, 2015, 01:35:56 AM
Yeah and the USD lending on Finex is complicated. Another thing people forget is that the USD swaps include LTC as well which account for a percentage.

Exactly like bja said as well there is theoretically unlimited fiat that can come onto Finex to be lent. You could have $500 million lent out, the fact that the rate is high is two fold. It's the fact that nearly all the available liquidity is lent out but there may also be less liquidity there as lenders decide they would rather use their USD to buy coins (very good sign of a trend change).

Yeah you pretty much have it with the last point. Again though its just a part of the market.
