Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Segwit2x is dead, long live Bitcoin

Just another failed attack on anti-fragile Bitcoin, furthering it's resilience and robustness.
Segwit2x is dead, long live Bitcoin!
I do not know why everyone is saying is dead, they said the cancelled the hardfork, does that mean is dead. According to what I had been reading and what they have said is they cancelled due to a consensus in the bitcoin community. Also we do not know if this was a manipulation event as well, there are alot of factors and I think people looking at this one sided is quite funny. At least now we know that bitcoin will be able to get upgraded to the lighting network much sooner thanks to segwit. Segwit2x team says, "While this fork won’t happen, SegWit is here to stay. So let’s see if companies and developers are going to take advantage of SegWit in the coming months." Proposals for on-chain scaling aren't dead per say, just this one. A block size increase is after all still on the roadmap for if and when it gains widespread consensus. I like Pieter Wuille's Bip 103 ( https://github.com/bitcoin/bips/blob/master/bip-0103.mediawiki) of the 5 remaining open drafts. Thing is, until Segwit is fully utilized and https://bitcoincore.org/en/2017/03/23/schnorr-signature-aggregation/ along with LN are implemented, a hard fork isn't likely to gain the widespread consensus needed.

Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Bitcoin split to Bitcoin Cash! (BCH) Yep! You probably owe IRS a lot of $$$.

One aspect of the IRS guidelines that people often overlook, including many CPAs, is that the rules cover "convertible" assets. Most altcoins and especially forks are in no way convertible to fiat or goods/services. You can't place a fiat value on something that is not directly convertible.
In the case of BCH, many people have no way to convert it unless they sell it for Bitcoin and then sell that Bitcoin for fiat or goods/services.
If I forked bitcoin on my desktop computer tonight and sold .00000001 of the new fork coin for $100 bucks, would that mean suddenly every holder of 1 BTC suddenly owes taxes on 1 Billion dollars in "gains?" There is a real lack of guidance in what constitutes as a convertible digital currency at this point. With so much variance in market availability, liquidity, and price discovery there simply is no way to reliably or fairly determine tax obligations on these sort of things.
Ultimately, if the IRS wants to achieve maximum compliance and avoid litigation, swapping should be considered a "like-kind" trade and all digitial currencies should be taxed at the value they are given when converted to fiat or used to purchase actual goods or services. The cost basis will then be calculated based on how much was paid for the initial coins. In this scenario, many successful traders would eventually be taxed at the full value with zero cost basis.
That is a windfall for the IRS and a fair and simple way of gaining compliance.

Hello people, I got a really important question(s), is it worth to invest my $100k into bitcoins now? I am planning to let them for 6-12 months, would I get any profit on it? Tell me honestly, thank you.
That is an important amount of money in fact your first issue is going to be how to get bitcoin on the first place, you will probably have to use a service like coinbase in order to buy that much bitcoin. Dude. Look at the date of the post you are responding to. I think he is no longer in need of counsel. He bought at $200. When everyone else was afraid. Just like those who bought at $2000 will be back here in a few years with a similar story to tell.

Economy / Speculation / Re: What is on August 1, 2017?

Will it affect the price?
The first of August, 2017 will be the target day in activating the segwit that is intended to come some issues faced by Bitcoin currently. The non-technical Bitcoin users does not really understand the segwit, thus, making then con, pro, or neutral towards its activation. No body is certain if the price will go up or down when the activation come. In my opinion, it is much probable that the price will go up after the activation. Because I believe that the proposal of segwit is for the betterment of Bitcoin. Though I am still skeptical that segwit will ever be implemented because as of now the consensus of it still is far from the target number, however we might see a sudden boost in support when the time comes. What is so uncertain is how the market will react to the implementation if ever it does get pushed. I just hope it still does go up and not go down because of fears, though if it does go down I would buy a lot myself. Unless intentions change, there is absolutely enough support. See here: https://coin.dance/blocksOnly 80% is needed with Bip 91 to lock in signaling for Bip 141 Segwit. (see Segwit 2x intention). There will no doubt be drama in discussing the further proposed 2MB fork that would be in November but Segwit is looking pretty damn assured at this point. The debate over the fork should be seen as a strength in how changes are made, but surely will be seen as FUD by most people. Just one more obituary to add to https://99bitcoins.com/obituary-stats/

Wait, that was NOT me!. I did not even have a forum account on there. I just registered now so I can contact the mod and let them know it is an impostor. Actually quite pissed about this. People pull this all the time on slack too. Now i need to check that the slack does not have the guy using my name. Yes, you should always use escrow guys. Side note, as a legendary account you are telling people to leave trust ratings for something that happened on a different forum. Really>? Meant that forum, edited. ^^^^ Thanks. I registered on the forum now as andyatcrux1 and posted a warning. I also now registered on slack to warn people but the username andyatcrux was available so not sure if anything happened on slack. Slack is the worst for this sort of thing too. The guy could just now add a "." to the name to make it look similar. Seriously not happy about this shit. Can't help but feel like i have been targeted because of my previous posts aimed at the confirmed scammer here. As if he decided to get payback by using my name to scam people.

Reposting this with the stipulation that prices are firm, please do not PM me to negotiate prices. I am not in a hurry to sell. Thanks.
-snip-
No longer selling. This thread is too full of fake sell offers and low-ball bids. Was selling only to improve distribution. Will just wait for exchange. See you fellow hodlers on the moon. this guy is a scammer, he steals 1.8btc from me. Take care. I guess you must be the one who keeps posting fake sell orders. Registering yet another newbie account to make some random unfounded claim. Nice. You are a real gem. Edit: apparently this person was actually scammed by someone using my name on the forum.

Please be wary of scams! worthyou is a scammer, who tries to scam people here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1980042.0Look carefully at their trust ratings, including untrusted feedback: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=406535worthyou scammed before, see here: HesapX and his escrow worthyou are scammers be carefull, lost 0.44 BTC. Don't like this system, I just wanted to forge...
Your fault. Never use someone as an escrow that don't have trust. And worthyou have change his e-mail and password recently so possibly a hacked account. Worthyou scammed me as well. I contacted him he took off 10k XEL. I have now 30K XEL 4 sale poor you! Please be aware, that even if worthyou agrees to use escrow and you can buy XEL from them, you are likely buying stolen XEL, which is an illegal act itself. Also be aware of recently created newbie accounts selling XEL for deep discounts. It's likely worthyou using a new account.
