321  Other / Meta / Re: Cannot add Avatar to account... on: November 23, 2013, 04:43:17 PM
haha, now I see all the posts.   This is what I get.    I tried about 8 times before I posted in a thread then saw this post.    Wasted about an hour.

It should be stickied or etc...   This does increase traffic (not BW but potentially a significant number of SYNs).
322  Other / Meta / Re: Images now proxied on: November 23, 2013, 04:36:43 PM
I could find nothing that talks about avatar restriction.
Are you kidding?

Sounds like I am remarkably unobservant.   I did not really dig into what happened during the hacking.   Is it really written somewhere that folks new to an account would be able to see it?  I usually only hit the development/bitcoin/press/speculation/economics forums and only recently decided to become a member so I can comment/post.

I thought it was my new account status but I could find nothing that talks about avatar restriction.

Tried web upload and browser upload.    I recall the board hack from a while back and am wondering if they were turned off?
324  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bubble phases on: November 23, 2013, 04:03:34 PM
That bubble phases chart makes me nuts and I just figured out why.

In most bubbles I can think of the resources were not bounded.

  • Tulips: Just grow more
  • Housing: Just build more
  • Stock Market: Just issue more

Feel free to add to my list.   Does this make sense?

Lol, EXACTLY

I can't seem to upload an avatar?

It will be in $400 in two hours.

No it won't  Tongue

Bitcoin gets significantly closer to the moon.

Not to spread further rumours but Branson is also invested in Square and this may be leading us towards that "square at starbucks" thing.
329  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will You Sell when BTC Hits $1,000? on: November 21, 2013, 08:45:56 PM
I am with Mr. Voorhees.   Only problem is that it is going to take quite some time to
get out of FIAT entirely.
330  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you ever hold more Bitcoins than you hold now? on: November 21, 2013, 08:00:25 PM
Holding and buying more when I get a chance (daily purchase of more).   Always increasing never been higher WRT # of bitcoins.

Also, when buying products I try to purchase bitcoin to buy the products!
331  Economy / Speculation / Re: Poll: At what stage of bubbling/correcting/crashing are we at now? on: November 21, 2013, 06:31:54 PM
I don't think we can stop this trend.   The "natural" behavior when folks are not dumping is a drift upwards.   Keep in mind that coinbase has run out of coins several times.   A lot of demand and the self reinforcing behavior is massively global.
332  Economy / Speculation / Re: put on your tinfoil hats. I think I've gone over the edge. on: November 20, 2013, 04:01:31 PM

My opinion is Bitcion is not a stock or a currency. It's a digital commodity like mp3s and graphics. You are paying for some numbers in a text file. People want to have a Bitcoin so they pay for it.
This...

It is a commodity today that has some currency characteristics (note how the Senate hearings discussed as well).   In the long run the commodity characteristics may go away if it becomes of greater common utility (mom can use it etc...).

It's a trend like elmos and beanie babies.
Not That...

This is going to be quite different.   Elmos and beanie babies do not have the right qualities to be successful long term.   Having a protocol for exchange of value is absafreakingmazing.

333  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: November 20, 2013, 03:38:30 PM
I wonder how much impact coinbase has on price?   If they keep getting capped
and they are the "easiest" way to buy bitcoins in the US would this be part of the
reason why we had softness?

Can't help but notice that a lot of deflating started to occur with coinbase no longer
able to sell coin.
334  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Will scrypt asic ever be invented? on: November 20, 2013, 04:36:37 AM
The first step will likely be an FPGA.

The second someone gets there they have enough "well defined" that an ASIC
is not too far off.

Many, many computing activities can happen in ASICs if they are well planned
and ASICs can most certainly work with large chunks of memory!

Remember the key part of ASIC means "application specific."   The only way to limit
the growth of ASIC potential would be to change the algorithm so frequently
that they can't get to tape out before you change the design again  Wink

335  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Would you auction off items you have for btc? on: November 20, 2013, 04:29:06 AM
Keep in mind that you are up against a very tight clock.  Ebay has it's eyes on bitcoin!

You may want to look at acquiring Bitmit

https://www.bitmit.net/en/recent

as a possible way to get quickly moving. They are recently defunct and may represent an opportunity.
336  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Want to buy Bitcoins, but I'm late, what would you do? on: November 20, 2013, 04:18:44 AM
Hi

As the title say, I'm late for Bitcoins, its just to expensive ($585.00) for me, so what would you suggest?

I want to buy some, and I've heard of this mBTC, I'm guessing this is a small % of Bitcoins ... 0.001 BTC

Do you think I should buy some of these? or 0.05?

For me its just an investment, for maybe 5 years?

thanks

Buy some for savings/investment.    You certainly don't have to buy $500.

That said, don't just sit their and hold onto them.

  • Use them to buy things.
  • Give craigslist a shot
  • Give some to your family members and practice exchanging them
  • Experiment!
