1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin - PoW reward for solar energy | the GREEN KING of Crypto on: May 10, 2014, 05:47:22 PM
Hold on, hold on... If the price does spike early due to limited supply, that's what will trigger people who already generate solar to start submitting their claims in earnest which will start adding to the supply (coins in circulation). That will keep the price in check from going too high in the short term because many of those claimants will be more inclined to sell or be inclined to accept SLR as payment and get transactions under way.

So exciting to think about all of this! I think we are about to witness something special and unique with SolarCoin.  Shocked Many books will be written about it in the future. I might start taking notes now... LOL

Thinking out loud here but it seems to me that if you look at the supply/demand equation over the short term (say 2-3 years), the supply of SLR is incredibly tight as it is coming almost exclusively from mining. Many of the current holders aren't about to sell anytime soon. My small circle have put less than $100 each into this. But what happens if people start to come along who want to invest $1000 or more? Given that our exposure is gaining ground in circles outside of cryptoland where people have that kind of money and are passionate about the environment and energy, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the price could rise dramatically over the short term before settling down to $20-$30 in four to five years as the granting process takes over. And that is most certainly an incentive to adopt solar in the short term since the only viable method left for getting SolarCoins will be to generate solar and claim them. Mining them won't really be an option given the decay/difficulty and if the price spikes early, the incentive will be to earn them rather than buy them.

I'm really curious to see how this all plays out over the next 2-3 years. But we could be looking at a price chart over the next 4-5 years that more resembles viral growth than the standard growth charts most of us are used to looking at. After that, the price would settle into the proper behavioural pattern associated with a currency backed by electricity. I've been scouring the internet looking for something similar to what could happen and this is the best I've come across, just to give a graphical representation of what I'm attempting to describe.

I'd love to hear what you all think about this... Am I cracked???  Or could this actually happen? And if it does happen, is it a good thing or a bad thing for the SolarCoin Foundation mission overall? Obviously it would be a good thing for all of us early investors but I'm more concerned with the impact on the overall goals and mission of the project itself.

There are hardly any offers in there on AllCrypt... A market buy with 3 or 4 bitcoins would move the price up dramatically...  Shocked

I did a small trade and can vote again. Maybe it was glitched?  Huh

Ok, so I logged on to MintPal to cast my votes and they changed it!!! On the plus side, we are now showing at 23rd spot, up one. On the down side, it's just one vote an hour and it won't let me vote because it says I need more trade history. Does anyone know how much trade history you actually need to be able to vote???

They also increased the cost, 1 vote now costs 0.001 BTC. We'd need 16,365 votes to get to #1 will cost over 16 bitcoins but with the other changes, the cost hasn't really changed to buy your way in.

Still, I can't vote without a larger trade history. Does anyone know more about this?

One thing you can say about Solarcoin is that we are becoming recognized through the media.  Unfortunately we are not being recognized through the cryptoworld and becoming popular, for now.  This will all eventually turn around and EXPLODE as the Solarcoin initiative takes off.

Most coins do it the opposite way...  Get popular through the cryptoworld, then the media.  EX. Dogecoin...  We're just doing it the other way around.  Patience will pay off in the end!!!

Great point. I think you're right on the money with that observation.

Go ahead, keep on ignoring Solarcoin. I need to build up my stash. Wink

There is that... I am also trying to grow my position, so it is nice from that perspective. Most of my friends, co-workers and relatives have small positions as well and this lack of exposure has given me time to help them with their purchases. I'm like a small time SolarCoin broker who doesn't charge a fee. Smiley

good stuff I see two ways to get listed we all put up some btc and get it listed or vote each hour/everyday   btw  shirts still available

I have to go the vote route, I don't have two bitcoins to rub together. LOL

I see BeeCoin blew past us today... WTF?  Huh Before bed last night, we had 25,997 votes. Almost 24 hours later we have 26,040. We got 43 votes in a day and 10 of them are mine.  Cry

Sigh... Someone please tell me I have those numbers wrong.

Anyway, I just placed a Buy order @ allcrypt if anyone really want to sell his solar coins..

I can tell you I won't be selling you any of mine Cheesy but give it a few days and some miner will come along and do a big dump. You'll get filled. The bids will then fill up again. The price has been extraordinarily stable considering we aren't even on a big exchange yet. When we do get on an exchange like Cryptsy or MintPal, the supply won't change much but the demand will go up just by being listed. And that means one thing, the price will go up.

I know that I have no intention of selling any of my holdings until it reaches $1 and even then, I'll only sell enough to pay off some debts. I intend to hold the majority for the next 4-5 years and see this project through as it makes the transition to full-on grant stage. I will also use some for transaction purposes as more places become willing to accept them for payment.

If this project doesn't work, then none of it will matter because we'll end up living on a planet in 25-40 years that likely won't be worth living on anyway. The climate is passing the event horizon right now towards runaway global warming. We have to do something very, very soon to salvage it. Solar everywhere within 5 years is the only solution that is affordable and CAN be achieved. But governments and Oil & Gas have their heads shoved so far up each others asses that it won't happen if they have any say in the matter. The only way this can happen is if the people do it themselves. And they won't do it unless there is some financial incentive because that is just how people are in today's day and age. Even the minority few who buy into the climate hoax bullshit would get solar panels if they thought there was a buck in it for them.

This can work but it will only happen if we put sweat into the game. It's that important.

We need volunteers, we need exposure, we need on a bigger exchange in the short term, we need to spread the word.

Call me a raving climate lunatic all you want but I can guarantee you one thing, Mother Earth doesn't give a flying fuck about humans. And Mother Earth is approaching a singularity of her own and she's pointing that clathrate gun right at our heads and most people are so caught up in frivolous distractions that they'd rather believe a lie than face an inconvenient truth.

My apologies if I've offended anyone with my potty mouth. However, if I've offended someone because they think climate change is a "hoax" perpetrated by Al Gore, please say so publically so I can add you to my ignore list.

That is all.  Smiley

FYI, CleanWaterCoin has asked MintPal not to add them until they get their wallet problems under control... It was posted in this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=526513.msg6543709#msg6543709

I've been watching to see how they make out with this. Seems their wallet keeps forking or something... not sure what's up. Just throwing it out there for interests sake!
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin - PoW reward for solar energy | the GREEN KING of Crypto on: May 04, 2014, 05:21:15 PM
I've been casting votes on MintPal whenever I get a chance. I would urge all of you to begin doing that in earnest! It's time we got more exposure.  Grin

We were at 14th place a month ago, now down to 24th spot. Let's try to get back up in the rankings!
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Clean Water Coin | $2,000 Donated to Charity: Water on: May 03, 2014, 09:25:00 PM
It seems you guys are gonna be added to MintPal! Many gratz.  Grin

In the spirit of getting "green" coins listed, if you're willing to throw some MintPal votes at SolarCoin, I'll send §5 to the first 50 people who do and then post an SLR address on our thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=429119.540

Thanks!

Dev, any news?

News would be welcome at this point...  Huh
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / How to find out how many wallets downloaded? on: April 23, 2014, 11:51:10 PM
I'd like to see some data on how many wallets have been downloaded for any of the altcoins... Is there a way to easily find that information?
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SLR] SolarCoin - PoW reward for solar energy | the GREEN KING of Crypto on: April 21, 2014, 11:02:46 AM
I truly belive this coin will be one of the top coins to surive if saving power is the true goal how come it hasnt been switch to a difrrent algo like x11 or groestl ? As of right now scrypt use more power which in this case make more carbon waste... solar coin is suppose to be Environmentally friendly which at the current rate it's not. Low power/heat is the true goal so hopefully the Nick or dev can share more light on this even if we have to cause a fork to make it happen
see link on power consumption https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=538315.0;all comment and share your thoughts please
105 Million SolarCoins (0.1%) to be publicly mined over the next 40 years on scrypt?Huh way to much carbon dioxide (CO2),

The mining for those 105 million will effectively be over in 4-5 years, see this chart:

In fact, half of those mined coins will be distributed by the end of this year!  Shocked The transaction network in place when that time comes should indeed be more energy efficient though, I completely agree.

My mom has joined she is now solo mining solarcoin and has already found a block.  Grin

Ha!! That's awesome! Cheesy
19  Economy / Securities / Re: [HAVELOCK] PETAMINE 700 TH/s or 8.68 GH/s per share on: April 13, 2014, 01:02:13 PM
1) What proof has been given that Bert Valkenborgs and Joeri Cornelissens are who they say they are?
2) Is there proof that the hardware apparently now hashing actually exists?
3) How are CryptX making money from this venture?

1, look at their linkedin profile and the sales history of cryptx. They are legit.
2, yes. http://www.peta-mine.co/stats/ we moved away from eligius.
3, you already found your answer. Above that one of them is selling solarpanels, and the farm uses also solarpanels. So all we need for the farm is being brought to us by other companys that are owned by Bert or Joeri.

The should claim their SolarCoins then Smiley Here is the link: http://solarcoin.org/redeem/
