I had some luck with paypal rebuking some one of my customer's "unauthorized charge" attempts.
Thanks, happycat85. Seems like we've got one more confirmation of things going the right way with Paypal. sometimes at least.

Hello RunningTotal. My visitors have no risk of scam, since they pay through Paypal. If they "feel" scammed, they can contact me or, as a last resort, raise a chargeback.
Thanks for the quick reply. I'm actually much more concerned about those of your visitors who receive Paypal funds. Those who send are obviously 150% safe.

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."
Thanks, Meni. We're aware of the past. Actually, bitmarket.eu was good, despite it had no auto confirmation engine for PayPal transfers.

Please find more on correspondent forum thread and PM me or contact via the site for invite. For all our members it is required to have a proof of thrustworthness in order to be welcomed. What's a point to trade BitCoins on eBay? It's risky since violates TOS, will most probably result to listing cancellation (e.g. loss of listing fees) and could possibly result to account suspension. What you get on other hand? - a Paypal payment from a person with, let's say 3k positive feedbacks. Does it mean this person has no intention to claim a rollback on the transaction later on? NO. Will you be hit by this rollback directly through PayPal? YES. Will you then, after counting losses, be able to post a negative feedback on the person you've dealt with? NO, since he/she'll most probably report your listing so it'd be cancelled becasue of TOS violation.

I'm not actually saying PayPal-BTC trading is evil. I'm just saying eBay is not the right place for it to happen.
9  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Recent Events At Bitcoin Market on: September 14, 2011, 07:12:46 PM
We're launching a new marketplace in order to fulfill the growing need of having the opportunity to perform BitCoin-Paypal exchange marketplace. We employ direct peer-to-peer Paypal transactions between marketplace members with delivery confirmations sent to marketplace engine by Paypal. that  Yes, it's not guaranted that the person you deal with won't want to scam you. No one could get such a guarantee ever from anywhere. Instead, we guarantee that the deal will be either fulfilled properly by both parties or will not happen at all. We also provide our members with detailed information on each party involved so 'go/no-go' decision for a partucular deal should be an easy one.

We did our best to keep fees as low as possible - 0.5% average for the transaction. We collect 1% fee for Buy Limit orders and we let correspondent Sell Market orders to run with 0% fee.

Marketplace is just recently started live and will continue to evolve, improving and extending trading options offered. We've decided to run as invitation-only, so should you be intrested in joining in - contact me here via PM or our support team via 'contact us' link. Kindly be ready to provide proof of trustworthness as a BitCoin trader.

10  Economy / Currency exchange / OtcExchange.net - Automated PayPal-BTC marketplace based on p2p concepts on: September 14, 2011, 02:19:32 PM
We're proud to announce go-live of the first automated Paypal-BitCoin marketplace based on p2p concepts - www.otcexchange.net

OtcExchange offers convinient low-fee escrow service and a marketplace to perform currency exchange operations between Paypal funds and BitCoin.

The escrow service is using automated verification procedures thus providing payment/funds delivery guarantee for both trading parties. OtcExchange marketplace does not require its members to maintain any kind of internal balance and employ deposit/withdrawal procedures. Funds only being kept by marketplace till order fulfillment. Should order originator wish to close non-fulfilled order, correspondent BitCoin amount is being sent back to its respective owner.

The service is now working in invite-only mode which means you could only become a member by using an invitation sent by one of our existing trusted users. This is a precaution measure in order to safe marketplace community from chargeback scammers. If you reasonable believe you could prove your trustworthiness as a currency trader in order to become a marketplace member, please contact us directly on support@otcexchange.net.

We will be glad to welcome honest traders to the marketplace.

UPD Sep 21th 2011:

We've updated the engine so there are now trading limits assigned automatically for newly invited users. While having 'Invited' trust level, you are allowed to place a Sell Market order for no more than 50 USD. We're also working on the total maximum limit cap for SM orders within 45-day sliding window which corresponds to PayPal transaction appeal timeframe. The trust level has to be increased for these restriction to be removed.

Having that said, everybody wanting an invite please PM to Vitaly with email address an invite to be sent to and any additional details you feel worth to share. To get trust level increased, please mention your #otc wot, tradehill or bitcoinmarket.com username and rating.

Are all the major exchanges basically exactly the same or is it worth finding out the best one for you (what is the best one?)?
Also can an exchange such as Mt.Gox be trusted with my money in an account or are their any problems with that?

Thanks in advance.
Well, you're mostly right here. Still there are some different types of exchanges through not many. www.otcexchange.net is an example of what we've done in order to provide bitcoin community with more options. It's based on peer-to-peer concepts so there's no deposit-trade-withdrawal scenario at all. Thus it could never end up with scam like russian btcex.com did, or a tremendous rollback that mtgox shown to us just recently.

In a stunning update to this story, paypal has surprised by by actually refuting a bitcoin chargeback and using
the blockchain + sent letter as evidence.

So the money was deposited back into my paypal even though it could be pulled back out, and they are disputing the bank.

I am very surprised.  I do have a very good history with them and about a 7 year+ account.
Well, you seem got REALLY lucky and it's still hard to believe.
Our company is now moving live the new BitCoin/Paypal exchange with auto-tracking of both BitCoin an dPaypal payments (otcexchange.net). We've been digging for months and found no reliable way to fight against CC/ACH chargebacks on Paypal transactions. Having that said we've dediced to go for invite-only community on the marketplace...

If PayPal actually sided with payment recipient, that makes a HUGE difference, really. And a big hope..
