1  Economy / Marketplace / Oppinions, and Transfer speeds of Mt.Gox? on: December 03, 2013, 04:55:14 AM
Getting seriously irritated with CampBX and all the ass-tastic amount of downtime.

Looking at Mt.Gox as an alternative.   Not US-based, which is a bummer. And the transaction fee for International transfer is a lot higher than the CampBX fee. But the higher sell price makes up for that.

What are people's experience with the amount of time it currently takes to sell a BTC, initiate a withdrawal in USD, and have it show up in your US bank account?

I see you're going for employee of the year...

Its not like 99.9% of the people on this forum wouldn't jump at the chance to run their hardware without having to factor electricity into their ROI calculations.

The trick is that I'm running it at work where the electricity bill isn't my problem. But in doing that, I have to have it somewhere where the fan noise won't be noticed, and that means in amongst all of our network racks and such.

So I'm having to deal with the heat being generated by all that other equipment as well.

So I took the cases off my two Jalapenos this morning, and flipped the fans to blow down instead of up.

The stock one dropped to 46C, down 2-3C. The upgraded one also dropped to 46C, which is a reduction of about 8C.  Hash rate doesn't really seem any different, but it seems logical that lower temps increase the odds of a better lifespan.

I'm still concerned about my Little Single. Fluctuating between 72-74C. I bought one of those dinky little $3 USB fans off Ebay and aimed it at it, but it made no noticeable difference (and made too much noise).

$9 a week, you're talking about one of the 2 GH/s Fury units...

Optimistically (Very) you're looking at a ROI of 7-8 months, assuming the going rate on Ebay of $250 or so.

That also assumes that you have access to power that you don't pay for. And it assumes that the cost of BTC doesn't tank. And it assumes that your equipment lasts that long without breaking. And it assumes that the difficulty doesn't go up at a greater than predicted rate.

Too many And's in that assumption.

Optimal operating temperature for BFL Miner is 2 more weeks.

Your quick and clever wit is noted, and we all stand amazed.

No joke, this guy just sold a 30 GH/s Little Single, and it got bid up to $4000!

On a scale from 1 to WFT?!?

let me know if you willing to sell them i normal price range.

The problem is, what's a "normal" price range?   They're worth what ever people are willing to pay for them.  I sold my 3 Erupters a couple months back.  But if they're actually selling for $40-50 on Ebay, why would anyone sell them for less than half of that just because the buyer remembers the good old days?

Hello all,

Currently running 3 pieces of mining hardware, and I am curious if my temps are within spec, or if I need extra cooling. They are currently set up amongst the telecom & network equipment at work, where I know that airflow and heat from other equipment makes things non-optimal. I am somewhat restricted by needing to keep them out of sight and out of notice.

- BFL stock Jalapeno, averaging about 5.3 GH/s, running at 48-50c

- BFL firmware-upgraded Jalapeno, averaging about 8 GH/s, running at  about 54c

- BFL Little Single. This unit initially sounded like a friggin Tornado. I stripped the case off, flipped the heatsink fan to blow down instead of up, and replaced the chassis fan with a Cooler Master 120mm Silent fan.  This resulted in a massive reduction in noise and a 10c reduction in temperature. Currently averaging  31-32 GH/s at 71c

Thanks for any input.

I did much the same thing, sadly.  The first full Bitcoin that I mined, I sold at about $120.  By the time the price had spiked to $330 or so, I sold the .70 bitcoin I had accumulated by then, figuring that a crash HAD to be imminent. Whoops.

I was still paying off my mining hardware, so it doesn't make me feel like too much of an idiot. I used a "no interest if paid off in 6 months" promotion from a credit card when making the hardware purchase, so I'm only out of pocket for what I haven't earned back in that time period, and after that its pure profit.

I can't believe there's no one who has any information or experience with these devices...
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Are These "Newbie Lotto" Things a Scam? on: November 25, 2013, 12:37:00 AM
I've worked in IT for a long time, I can't count the number of times I've seen scams that start off with "Just send your bank account number, and..."

So when I see posts in this newbie forum that tell me to post my wallet address for a chance to win something, I get really suspicious.   Is it safe, or can posting my wallet address an easy way to give someone a back door to screw with me?
