I like it, maybe you could draw a comic bitcoin story?  Smiley

I was thinking of maybe a pinup. Stories take too much time. I'd rather be paid for that lol

nice work i like it

Thanks bud

What's the process on getting such clean linework?

I do all my work digitally on a Cintiq Tablet, but the process is the same as if I were using real paper. I draw the roughs, add a second layer and clean up and add what I think looks good. On to a 3rd layer for finished inks. I mainly use SketchBook Pro 6. Sometimes if I decide to add colors I'll port over to Painter X3, but start to finish can be done in SketchBook Pro 6

I'm a professional, but lately it has felt like a hobby. The entertainment industry tends to feel the effects of a poor economy rather quickly. My profile has a link to my work. Unfortunately most of the pro work I do is under NDA's  Lips sealed http://andrewfroedge.deviantart.com/

Thanks! I am looking forward to it. Thankfully this time they are staying close to the source material  and original story from 1954

1. What about Litecoin with MultiMiner causes the system to become extremely laggy?

Litecoin (Scrypt) mining in general lags a system much more than Bitcoin (SHA-256) mining. I don't have any Nvidia hardware so I cannot speak directly to the performance of those cards under MultiMiner versus GUIMiner.

2. Why did the Hash rate drop so much from GUIminer to MultiMiner?

AFAIK GUIMiner has various mining backends. If it is using an Nvidia-specific one, such as Cudaminer, that may give better performance.

That said, GUIMiner also tries to pick out the right Scrypt arguments for your card. MultiMiner doesn't. If you click on Settings > Advanced miner settings, you'll see an area to enter Scrypt arguments, as well as a link to example arguments. Give that a shot.

Thanks a bunch nwoolls, I'll see if I can't find card specific arguments for the 8800GT. I won't recieve my 7850 until Jan 2nd, so I'm stuck with the Nvidia  Cry

Have you tried MultiMiner? https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=248173.0

Currently I am using an 8800GT. I was solomining Litecoin with GUIMiner and was getting 10-12 Khash. My system was a bit laggy, but I could surf the web fine. I started mining Bitcoin with MultiMiner at first and it ran very smoothly with the 8800GT. I stopped the Bitcoin miner and started the Litecoin miner and my Khash dropped to 2 from 10-12. My system became almost unusable.

My question(s) are

1. What about Litecoin with MultiMiner causes the system to become extremely laggy?
2. Why did the Hash rate drop so much from GUIminer to MultiMiner?

Basically I'm just getting myself familiar with the program before my new card comes in. I currently have a Radeon HD 7850 2GB on the way so I can switch the 8800GT out. I know Nvidia cards do not mine well. Will I run to into the lag issues with the new 7850?

I am going to assume it is because I am using the 8800GT, but wanted to make sure I was not overlooking options in the program.

Gigabyte Mobo's tend to have issues with RAM. Before you do anything extreme. Update the Bios to the latest version and make sure the RAM is stable at factory specs. If it is, then you can start to overclock them. It could also be a faulty stick or socket, just to name a few possible issues.

Stay away of Bitcoin ASIC hardware. It's closed circle of permanent investment,... up to the point when You are multiplied with zero... Huh
I'm small hobby miner, and everything I earned mining scrypt with GPUs I spent on ASIC. And ASIC hardware is loosing value as difficulty increases, and that is fast and furious...
My advice for You - small rig with 6 times 7790 (I believe You can power all of them with Your existing power supply) will give You quiet and cool 1.5 MHash/s scrypt mining speed. Using pools that are mining most profitable coin at moment (multipool, hashcows,...) will give You 0.8 BTC a month. Make them two for desired 1-2 BTC/month. That's now. If it keeps for next two months, You will return Your investment. Unless You start buying those small sexy ASIC miners... Roll Eyes

I like the way you think sir! I just bought an Radeon HD 7850 2GB  Wink Next I'll be checking out motherboards. I have my eye on a few.

the new vid cards are 950-1000
if your budget's that low, just buy a few coins and hold onto them.
A decent Alt rig right now will cost 4 grand or more to get you 4Mh...

I have to build a new rig anyway.I do illustration work and some 3D modeling and my current rig was a cheap replacement until I could start rebuilding something better. Cheap hardware does not work well with 3D modeling software  Undecided  I could start buying coins, but the new rig still needs to be built regardless.

Thanks takagari, I'm still keeping alt coins in mind. He was only familiar with BitCoin so I figured that was a decent page to show him. He tends to be one of those people that are interested until they see the cost of getting started.

Depending on my yearly bonus. I should be able to get the R9 270X by the end of the week. I've read 400-450 Khash/s is about the norm for those with LTC. Baby steps I guess. Anyway, thanks your help guys and your patience

This may be feasible. http://cointerra.com/shop/ TerraMiner IV. I spoke with my boss about working out a deal. He's been interested about BitCoin and asked if I knew anything about it. I pointed him to that page. Would be pretty cool if he decided to invest with me. Anyone know about this company and if as good as it looks?

Everyone trying to "save" potential future miners thinks that the only reason anyone would ever want to get into this is to make a positive ROI in BTC on their investment into mining equipment. There are a whole slew of other reasons people want to get involved, not the least of which is a return in fiat currency.

The term Return On Investment is abused so badly in this forum. Everything you do gets an ROI, so someone telling you "it will never ROI" has no clue what they are talking about and should be summarily ignored. If I invest $100 and get back $1, my return on investment is -99%. Or, my overall return is negative $99. If I invest in model rocketry, I burn up a few dollars every time I launch a rocket. There is no financial return on investment for the money I spend there, but there is still an ROI that can be calculated. If I spend $60 on a USB Block Erupter, I may earn back a dollar or two on that hobby. In the mean time who is to say I didn't enjoy having it, playing around with pools and other alt currency, maybe mining against CEX.IO for a bit and trading some small amount there. Part of the return on investment is subjective, and not quantifiable. It was enjoyment, same as the model rocketry hobby.

The thing the big miners have forgotten is that at small amounts this is a fun hobby. It all changes when you (over) extend yourself in one way or another to buy a big quantity of mining equipment. It is no longer fun. Instead it is a race against time to make that money back.

My suggestion is this: If you see this as a hobby, invest in anything you can afford to lose and don't worry about making all your money back on it. Enjoy this for what it is. If you already invested your life savings and you saw this as your way to make it big so you don't have to work anymore: Sorry, you are screwed, and people will eventually learn to ignore their FUD about mining.

I fail to understand how plugging in a usb device is considered a hobby.. I agree with everyone on this forum who mine btc to make a profit. Many bitcoin miners have seen a positive ROI even in terms of btc if they were lucky.

Sort of the same as people overclocking their PC's. Technically your wasting money, but for the enthusiasts it well worth the fun. Plugging in the USB miners is the same thing. Pushing numbers to how far you can get with a certain type of setup. They may or may not make money, but in their eyes it's just plain fun.

I mined LTC with my CPU today to compare with my vid card. I earned more with the AMD Tricore in a day mining LTC than I did in nearly a month mining BTC with the 8800GT. Terrible numbers, but it clearly shows the difficulties I'm looking at.

I was looking for hash rates for the two vid cards I picked out. From what I can tell, the R9 270 pushes higher numbers than the 7850. Prices are pretty close to each other. $180 give or take.

I am looking for investors locally. No bites currently with the holidays and our wonderful economy. Good chance I'll probably not get even 1 investor but it's worth a shot.

Still be very new to mining. I've had a gauntlet of people telling me BTC is better! and LTC is better! but just glancing through Google for the last month, mining numbers vs hardware cost LTC is most likely where I'll end up. Never hurts to ask too many questions. Thanks for the response vpasic

Being new to the bitcoin scene. What sort of hardware am I going to be looking to buy to have a steady flow 1-2 bitcoin a month? Currently I only have a 8800GT@ 28Mhash. I know I'll need much more than that, but I'd like to have a better idea of hardware I should be upgrading to. My whole PC honestly needs to be upgraded, but I figured start with the Vid card first.

AMD TriCore @ 3.5
4GB DDR3
cheapO Gigabyte Mobo
PC Power and cooling 750Watt PSU
8800GT - can't knock it to bad, it's been a trooper

What I'm currently at for upgrades:

Radeon R9 270 2GB - 1280 Stream Processors http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121823

Radeon HD 7850 2GB- 1024 Stream Processors http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150641

wondering if the difference in the Effective Memory Clock is going make that much of a difference between the two.

Yellowjacket 2.2 GH/s USB ASIC https://www.hashratestore.com/shop/asic/nanofury-yellowjacket-bitfury-usb-asic/

I used to be heavily in to overclocking and Folding@Home. I'm used to hours of adjusting and setting up software/hardware configs so I'm fairly confident with that aspect. I've spent the last few days looking through the forums for threads on this. So this has probably been asked hundreds of times and I'm not seeing it. =P

I've always been an Nvidia fanboy, but with this mining that obviously isn't going to help my end goal. Any suggestions, tips would be great.

Bookmarking the page. I have to wait until I get my bonus from work, but I will be buying at least one of the YellowJackets.
