65  Economy / Speculation / Re: How long until Oprah discusses Bitcoin? What effect will it have on the price? on: May 01, 2013, 09:05:42 PM
How long do you think it will be before Oprah interviews a Bitcoin miner and brings Bitcoin into the mainstream? What effect will it have on the price if she starts talking about it? Has anyone tried to contact her people to get her to research it?

She'll only ever mention it in her discussion of "Chic Coin". Not to be confused with "Sikh Coin" btw.

I think it would be more convenient to sort banks by country and their dealings regarding bitcoins:

Quote
CANADA (5 banks by law)

Royal Bank of Canada - Closed CaVirtex and "Canadian Bitcoins" trading accounts.

Toronto-Dominion Bank - Closed "CADBitcoin" trading account

Bank of Nova Scotia - Working with CaVirtex

Bank of Montreal - Working with CaVirtex

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce - No information

Your point is very true, but you must understand that Bitcoin is a huge leap in the right direction, that is, out of the hands and control of any small group.
68  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch 3 is definitely not shipping on time... on: April 24, 2013, 04:15:58 AM
Given the current delays, I'm predicting the median ship time for batch 3 to be May 22.

Won't that suck if BFL starts shipping out regularly within the next month and kills all batch 3 owners? That's making a big assumption that BFL will actually deliver in volume though.

Regardless, I'd hate to be one of the suckers that bought into BFL.

I'm betting that statement will prove more fitting.
69  Other / Off-topic / Re: Translation of BFL update on: April 19, 2013, 07:44:05 PM
even if they started shipping in big volume tomorrow it will still have been a complete disaster for anyone who ordered anything from this company.

Unless you ordered a mug, or a clock...
70  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL fucks us over again on: April 19, 2013, 03:09:57 PM
Why no refund ? : Queue position. The BTC with which I paid my order with are now worth 10-15x more.

Can you imagine the number of refund requests they'd get if people could get their original BTC back?
71  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: BFL- we all know why on: April 04, 2013, 07:50:10 PM
while i have not personnaly ordered one, it has become apparent thru forum post and there failure to ship by deadlines

2 main accusations

1) repeatly not shipping by deadline
2) Not honoring there 1000btc bet on power supply specs, feel free to add to it

edit also apparantly mini rig miner is out of stock, with none shipped

2: They have stated they will honour the BTC1000, but to whom yet no one knows...

Nor when.

As they say, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. [...] Luck is when preparation meets opportunity.  Those without intellectual curiosity, are inevitably destined to lives of mediocrity, and none of us can really change that.

I'm absolutely dumbfounded to think back to all the people far smarter and more tech savvy than I who knew about bitcoin, or who I tried to explain it to, that just didn't care enough to do anything.

I'd like to think they just couldn't afford the financial risk, or were really busy with life and work, but some of them, bitcoin was almost tailored to catch their attention, but it just didn't click.

It was like trying to teach a pig to sing...

Worst case is 195w

Is that for a 60 GH Single SC? That can't be right, that's garbage compared to the 60w originally advertised.
76  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: Mining protocol bandwidth comparison: GBT, Stratum, and getwork on: March 27, 2013, 02:18:54 PM
If you're looking for the absolute least amount of network traffic, CGMiner's implementation of Stratum is the best.
Not really.. you can degrade BFGMiner's stratum security with the --skip-security-checks parameter.

Yet again you fine gentlemen have overestimated my competence.

Lets say I have a 2 Th (2,000 Gh) rig, and I need to tell the server collocation host how much bandwidth I think I'm going to use per month, what is the extreme upper limit of the standard deviation?
I came up with 205 KB/sec, or 18 GB/day at the extreme case of difficulty 1 shares with full 1 MB block templates every 30 seconds.
In practice, 2 Th/s would probably be unusable at difficulty 1, so you would be using a variable difficulty pool which would use less bandwidth for submissions (which account for about 134 KB/sec of this estimate).

Surely you jest. Are you sure that's not 18 GB/MONTH?

Is there a simple formula us plebs can use to calculate bandwidth given current difficulty, rig hash rate etc?
79  Economy / Goods / Re: Selling BFL Mini Single (order date in first 2 weeks) on: March 26, 2013, 09:18:27 PM
And why exactly are you selling it??

Better than a BFL refund.

Keep in mind, ASICs only showed up AFTER the first reward split, so half of all bitcoins ever went to CPU, GPU, and FPGA miners.
