Mining is VERY competitive. It's an arms race against the ASIC clock. It's also a race against the rising difficulty clock. Asics's are coming one way or another. I still think it will be a while before they offer the performance/price that makes sense. Also, it will take a generation or two to really get the kinks worked out. But if you aren't either racing to get as much coin now as you can, then you are bringing up the rear because the rest of use are building farms. We want to collect/cash in as much BTC as possible before ASICs drive the difficulty up so much that you actually NEED said asic to mine/survive in this hobby. It is called progress. Either you move along with it or you get left behind crying about the neighbors Maserati Smiley +1. Finally some adults around here. Funny how kids around here like to play with their words just so they can 1up people on the Internet. Where did I try to one up you? Who is the kid? Those dang kids! Kids are what 16 and under? Sorry to disappoint, no kid here. Mining is still not competitive. There is a new coin every week. No one can mine every coin. So please stop. ALSO, people that take mining as BUSINESS are not so smart. Lets use logic here. Allow him his illusion of superiority, it's all he's got apparently to make him feel good about himself. If he feels it's competitive, fine for him. I'll just sit back and continue to mine away, perfectly happy with my profits and my strategic coin purchase. I'm not in competition with anyone but myself.

I don't know about you, but I'm not concerned about Scrypt ASIC's rendering my GPU's obsolete for mining. I'm sure there will be something new to mine anyway.
And what's with the spiteful reply? lol, bunch of kids on here full of hate... seriously.
...and I have a house....
That would be because you have 11 rigs. Sure you have a shit ton of hash cool. but once scypt acis come out. normal people will become obsolete. Like mining bitcoins is now. like it has been said a million times before. Some people don't have a house payment to put out on mining rigs. I'm not trying to offend you, but if you can't deal with the competitive nature of this business, then it's not for you. Also, like I said, I wouldn't worry about GPU's becoming obsolete. Quark for example, with the right software, can be mined with a GPU. I'm sure there will be many others. I could be wrong, but in my opinion there is currently too much vested interest here to just let this all die away. The competitive nature? You start your 11 rigs and go do whatever you do. Then have H20 do the work for you. Oh hey, bitcoin in my wallet. Competitive nature. ha. How is it not competitive? Do you know what competitive means? lol, whoever has more hash power, earns more coins. It's that simple. If there was no competition, nobody would need ASICs or GPU's. Satoshi would be happily mining away with a few CPU's. In competition you know your opponent. Who are you battling? For what? No end prize. Mine until you don't want to. Who says how much or little you have to mine? Sorry but mining is not competitive in the sense I am talking. You don't make any sense kid.. Actually you don't make any sense. Mining isn't "competitive." Not in any way shape or form. This is so, because no matter how high your hash-rate, it does not affect my own earnings. The only possible way mining could be "competitive," is if you felt some need to earn more than the next guy, and he chose to "compete" with you. As long as I am happy with my hash-rate, your hash-rate is irrelevant.

The fact that h2o can somehow move huge amounts of coins and still give us good payouts says all it needs to say.
Yep. No doubt about it. What he's actually doing is KEEPING ALL of those coins we mine and paying us out of his own secret BTC stash. See h2o is actually head of a syndicate of wealthy bankers intent on buying up all the alt-coins in the universe, then they'll crash BTC control the world. h2o's real name is . . . Dr. Evil-er

I have been reading this thread for a while and i understand what you mean, People do jump to conclusions, But what do you think the reason is for so many flat lines lately ? I mean, It seems to me everytime the site backs up with a lot of unexchanged coins the stats get switched off , Any ideas why?
By the way I'm not complaining because the pool has been paying me well since i started using it.
There's been flat lines lately because we're got over 15Gh/s worth of users generating a lot of database transactions, and the statistical software (apparently) doesn't scale too well with that. It also usually happens while h2o is sleeping, he is still somewhat human, so he needs a few hours of shut eye every night. During the day he is monitoring the pool software and can catch problems before they start. Sure I can understand its a fair amount of data, And that it might be sketchy software/ Poor server hardware. What I don't get is a pool that's actively paying out on a daily basis upwards of £100,000 is coming to a standstill statistically, Because one man goes to sleep, (While we just so happen to have massive amounts of unexchanged) The handling of the site and the pool and the data, If you don't mind me saying, ''Should'' now be treated with a higher amount of urgency because of the status it has achieved. Or perhaps I'm wrong and we should all accept a man that's earning £3000 a day can just forget about it until hes ready to wake up ? Why is it your concern how much h20 is earning? Envy? Jealousy? You don't like it, find another pool. As long as my earnings here exceed those of any other functioning multi-pool with automatic BTC payout, I couldn't care less how much he earns. H2O is running a profit-making business. He doesn't attempt to hide how much he's making or how much he charges for his services. If it seems excessive to you, then move along, or start your own pool--maybe you can earn big bucks too.

I've only been mining here for 35 days but from what i've seen, unexchanged goes up, goes up a bit more, everyone shits their pants then it all gets exchanged and everyone is happy. Rinse. Repeat.
Yeah, but, yeah, but . . . If it isn't all sold, well, we might have to wait all the way till tomorrow!!!! Hyperventilate, hyperventilate.

You sound like the AGW alarmists all up in arms over something that has happened repeatedly over the last several hundred million years, happening again.
Nice way to prove your point that discussion, dragging in a heated topic like global warming.. And then siding with the deniers Btw, did you know a denier is a unit of linear mass density of fibers? Thank you random internet person! Yeah, but I thought better of it . . . unfortunately too late.

Well, Artos was logged in at 5:40 this morning, so it's not like he's not seeing all of these posts.
Apparently he doesn't care enough to make even a token effort at allaying the fears and concerns being expressed here. One has to wonder if he's not taking some sort of perverse pleasure out of seeing all of this sturm und drang.
He's not responding because the price will rise when he talks. He wants the price to drop, buy cheap, make an announcement and cash in. He has done this multiple times. fuck this guy, i sold all of my sbc. While I have conjectured as to his motives, I see no reason to actually attribute malice to him. Truth is, I suspect it's more that he's one of those who becomes blind to everything around him while he's working on a project. I attribute no malice to him, only an unrealistic level of detachment. Sort of a tone-deaf genius. . . . and at today's prices, it's foolish to liquidate SBC holdings. As I said earlier, my downside is about $150 in coins and about a month to a month and a half's worth of mining time. Should the coin roll in as promised, the upside is exponentially greater. . . . and yes, as I can afford it, I too am buying additional SBC at these low prices.

Why do the unexchanged coins scare you? I love the payouts s that follow those.
...if the payouts happen. If unexchanged balance just grows over time, you're not getting paid accordingly. Has your fear ever been realized here? Except for the occasional server problem, has there ever been a failure to convert the unexchanged to exchanged? There have been frequent occasions when the unexchanged built up during the day, but somehow, we all manage to muddle through and, at the end of the day, get paid. Stop buying problems where there are none. Everything will be just fine. Never in the past has middlecoin been so big. Never have I had more than a day's production unexchanged. Past performance is no indication of future behaviour. It doesn't help you to close your eyes, stick your fingers in your ears and say "nononono I can't hear you, everything is fine". "But, but, but, you never know, someday it could happen." Okay, Chicken Little, you just keep worrying for all the rest of us sane folks. Talk about a waste of time and energy . . . worrying about something--which has NEVER happened--suddenly happening.
