In the "mirroring" mode, dont you lose space and speed? Whats the difference between having that and a backup hdd?
Yes you lose space, but not speed. I've read you may actually have a slight gain in reed speed, but that's irrelevant. The difference is it's a mirror, not a backup, so if you delete something it is deleted from both hdd's. However, you have the benifit of being able to replace a drive if it dies while still using the computer. It will be slower while the RAID arrays rebuilds, but in a business the lack of downtime is important. @RoadStress: I don't mean to ignore you, I just don't know the answer to your question. I would love to see a seperate topic started on this. So if you start one, please link to it in this thread or send me a pm. Sure. Just name the appropriate sub-forum and I'll do it. Here on Technical Support?Discuss the topic here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=918890.new#newThank you.

Just consider that as a long term loan to a hacker. MTGOX managed to operate 2 years before they could never make the lost coin back, but MTGOX is unlucky since they were hit by the ASIC evolution of bitcoin mining, and the bitcoin price rose by 100x because of ASIC miners
I wish it would be that simple to raise the bitcoin price I am doing my part in buying ASICs, do you?

I'd like to report a bug with my SP20.
It's running outside, in my garage. There's an S4 running there as well. Otherwise, there is no heat source. There is no insulation.
It's 3 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Yet my SP20 insists the intake temperature is 0 degrees Celcius.
I don't think it is aware that Celcius goes below zero.
M
I think there was a bug with below 0 degrees variables. It was messing up with the miner gate and it was patched to always show 0 when it goes below 0. I may be wrong because I can't recall exactly.

Considering the latest news and your post is it safe to assume that CT will not tape out their 16nm chip anytime soon?
My bet is that the bean counters will put the kibosh on the check they would need to send to the Fab even if they did try to tape out. The Fab will want cash up from them I expect. Wasn't it HashFast that got a bunch a chips back, just as they declared bankruptcy? Got a bunch of chips back from who? From the Fab? I don't understand your HF statement.

with the price of bitcoin where it is, the market for bitcoin mining is almost non existent and its unprofitable to mine when your costs are in dollars. if cointerra dies it wont be the first, nor the last mining company to do so. hope it doesnt die, cos it cost me (and others) a lot!

What a surprise... I'm not unhappy they are gone. Any company that treats its customers as badly as they have done deserve to fail ! What I am pissed off about is I wont recover the money I put in there back in March 2014 ($6817) Don't be shy. Share the story.

It is not pleasant, when the seller lowers the price with two months, from 1350 USD to 500 USD
I think you meant three months, not two months. Oct, Nov, Dec. 3 months.

Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Why isn't mining hardware plunging in price?

It seems Antminer and Spondoolies are still too high. BTC price is down, difficulty is up.... is having a bitcoin mining hobby that much fun that it keeps the price so high???
Because all the components (except the chip which is really cheap) have fixed costs and manufacturers are already approaching the cost production. Multilayered PCB are usually expensive and unless you produce them in thousands then you will not be able to get a better price than the regular price. Do the math for yourself and start adding PCB, case, fans, components, heatsink etc. You can't really expect to have an SP20 or S5 under 100$ because it's simply impossible.

and who doesn't? they all do now due to regs.
Well for the moment US laws seem to be more intrusive than the EU laws when it comes to bitcoin exchanges and while all transactions are available in the blockchain I never heard any report regarding accounts closure in Bitstamp like those from Coinbase. Sorry for the offtopic. Kind of bummed that before my three pack of sp20s shipped, the price was reduced $405
::sigh::
$405? Where do you see that price?
