kano, IMHO the only good thing for bitcoin are: - distribution, p2pool envisions the original idea of a distributed network - fees should in the end replace block reward. mining has different costs in different parts of the world and not everyone can have a T1 at his/her home. So, restricting block size/imposing a fee are legal ways to handle such differences. If a p2pool user has a fiber connection, for example, he could mine a much bigger block. BTW, if you see here http://blockchain.info/blocksyou'll find out that block sizes can be a lot lower than 32 kB even for big pools. spiccioli |

Huh, only just now? I thought they taped out early as September, we actually expected them to be online and mining since November. Looks like we over estimated all of our competition. If my memory is correct, Team Avalon said, that they will release system image for their hardware at the end of December. End of Dec. is here...
Yes, work is progressing on this end, I think I'll get you guys an update within this weekend or so. If anything we will release the openWRT image first and release the updated miner later. but it is not really any different than other Atheros AR7240 CPU, Atheros AR9331 Chipset routers. Will the USB be like Icarus (PL2303) or something else? I've been (very slowly) rewriting the cgminer drivers to use libusb, done MMQ, working on BFL, then if there is also a need Icarus. The new ASIC drivers will of course be based on these USB versions (when I write them) kano, if I'm not wrong, Avalon, is a stand alone unit with an ethernet connection, it is not externally controlled by a miner. spiccioli |

Are you trying to tell everyone that p2pool users are BAD for bitcoin and suggesting they should configure p2pool to be BAD for bitcoin?!?
i.e. if their hardware sux, solve it by restricting BTC block sizes?!?
Sounds like p2pool is a bad idea for bitcoin since people are doing this.
Limiting transaction sizes to 32k means non-p2pool pools are WAY better for bitcoin that p2pool.
I guess everyone now has another reason to avoid p2pool ... with a standard pool we can know what the pool is setting for ALL blocks,
but with p2pool it looks like there are people who are GREATLY restricting the transaction size due to having crappy setups.
kano, there are two issues here: - users of p2pool with older versions of the client code, these are the ones that need to upgrade
- users of p2pool which have a standard ADSL and as such need to restrict block size since a 1 MB block that needs to be pushed out through a 64kB ADSL upstream connection can take a long time, even more so if it has to be sent to 50 different nodes.
I don't think that restricting block size is detrimental, I, as a miner, can decide what to include and what not. I coud, for example, leave unrestricted block size but ask for a 0.01 BTC fee and decide not to process fee-less transactions. spiccioli edit: ps. btw, my configuration reserves some space for fee-less transactions and high-priority ones. |

Ma nella categoria "denaro elettronico" il Bitcoin ha un posto d'onore! Perché fare finta che non esista, come possibilità?
Io non faccio finta di nulla, il BTC oggi non e' un'alternativa al contante in quanto non lo puoi usare per fare la spesa! Tutti speriamo che lo diventi, ma intanto, fino a quando non lo diventa, gia' lo smettere di usare denaro elettronico e' un passo avanti. E invece, secondo me, già l'uso delle carte di credito o di debito (ormai anch'esse tecnicamente obsolete, sebbene in Italia sembrino la frontiera per entrare nel futuro) presenta molti vantaggi, principalmente ambientali e sul fronte sicurezza.
Sulla sicurezza (solo per il negoziante, pero') posso concordare, ma ambientali? perche' si stampano alcune tonnellate di carta all'anno? La macchinetta al massimo "riconta". Non c'è cassiere di banca che si affidi unicamente alle macchinette, semplicemente perché, se poi i conti non tornano, ci smena lui di tasca propria.
si ok, il cassiere conta i soldi... ma e' il suo lavoro no? Oppure preferisci che passi il tempo a cercare di infinocchiare i clienti vendendogli obbligazioni della banca per cui lavora? Mmm, non ne sono affatto convinto. Sarebbe anzi interessante conoscere il tragitto "modello" di una banconota, durante la sua breve esistenza.
Ecco, questo sarebbe interessante, ma non ho dati: cose tipo, quanto dura una banconota, quante volta passa di mano tra un'entrata e un'uscita dalla banca etc. Beh, tra finanziare la BCE coi contanti, oppure Visa/Mastercard con le carte di credito (istituti privati, il primo tra l'altro neppure europeo), non so cosa sia peggio. Infatti le banche nostrane guadagnano (quasi) unicamente sulle transazioni PagoBancomat.
Ecco, qui ci sarebbe un luuuungo discorso da fare, sul fatto che lo stato si indebita con la BCE per avere dei contanti... ma... lo lascio per un giorno nel quale ho piu' tempo. In ogni caso, riallacciandomi al post originale, dopo 100 transazioni, di 100 EUR le banche/gestori di CC si sono mangiati piu' della meta'... beh, a me sembra inaccettabile. Ciao. spiccioli |

Stemby, mi sembra ci sia un malinteso tra noi: io non sto dicendo che il contante e' meglio dei BTC, io sto (stavo) riallacciandomi al post originale e confrontando contante con denaro elettronico (carta di credito - bancomat). Sul fatto che i BTC siano contanti migliori non ci piove. Sul fatto invece che i contanti vecchia maniera siano peggio del denaro elettronico non c'e' dubbio che sia falso, e lo dimostra il fatto che la maggior parte delle transazioni, in Germania, non in Burundi, avviene per contanti. spiccioli ps. il fatto che contare i soldi costi... beh, a parte le macchinette che hanno le banche che li contano da sole, i contanti, per la maggior parte della loro vita passano da privato a privato e solo una parte ritorna in banca ogni tanto. E' chiaro che il negoziante, col cassetto pieno di contanti, corre dei rischi e questo e' forse l'unico punto a favore del denaro elettronico... peccato pero' che questo punto a favore... lo paghi l'utente finale quando fa la spesa! |

Guarda, parafrasando Fantozzi, per me, questo articolo, è una cagata pazzesca. Usando solo un po' di buon senso, lo si smonta frase per frase. Ciao! Stemby, ok, allora perche' non provi a smontarlo? Io "conosco" Beppe Scienza da tempo e mi fido di quel che dice. Tra l'altro, se hanno fatto un simposio sul contante, non penso che sia stato per dire: fa cagare, usate una carta di credito! Il contante c'e' dappertutto, ma hai mai sentito di limiti all'uso del contante per transazioni in Svizzera per esempio? In America per quanto ne so non ce ne sono, ci sono solo regole per riportartare transazioni sopra una certa soglia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money_laundering#United_StatesLa produzione delle banconote costa nulla rispetto al loro valore facciale, ci sara' forse un po' di costo per la distribuzione etc. Ma vuoi mettere il costo delle strutture che stanno dietro alle carte di credito? E il costo delle frodi/chargeback via carta di credito, lo vogliamo considerare? E la perdita di privacy? Dove la mettiamo? Perche' oscuri funzionari dello stato devono sapere che ho speso 100E (faccio per dire) in un ristorante? O per comprarmi una camicia e via dicendo? L'unico motivo per il quale si fa la lotta al contante e' perche': - il governo e' emanazione delle banche e le banche guadagnano per ogni transazione (pizzo) senza fare nulla! - il controllo con la scusa della lotta all'evasione (nessuno che dica che il 90% dell'evasione e' fatto dalle grandi industrie/corporation senza nemmeno violare la legge) serve a imporre un regime poliziesco. In definitiva, il contante e' una forma piu' antica di bitcoin, gli stessi motivi che rendono cosi' appetibili i BTC si applicano al contante a meno della capacita' di fare transazioni internazionali. Paypal non è molto usato per i pagamenti visto che è facilmente reversibile come pagamento, se vuoi andando in qualsiasi ufficio postale o punto sisal puoi fare una ricarica postepay che è molto più facile da accettare. E aggiungerei, se vai su localbitcoins.com potresti scoprire che c'e' qualcuno vicino a te che ha la possibilita' di comprare/vendere bitcoin... spiccioli |

Ma infatti, anch'io son molto contento e vorrei veder sparire il contante al più presto, a partire dalle banconote che hanno costi enormi per la società: durano poco, la produzione è costosa e inquinante, e ancor più costoso è il loro utilizzo (tempo speso per contare e ricontare ad ogni passaggio di mano).
Il Bitcoin è pronto a prendere il suo posto, con enormi vantaggi e pochissimi svantaggi.

Io, da circa un anno, pago solamente con contanti (che prelevo dal bancomat di tanto in tanto), tranne qualche piccolo acquisto fatto su ebay/internet. All'inizio e' un po' scomodo, e' piu' che altro una questione di abitudine, ma poi la cosa diventa del tutto naturale e in un paio di casi, pagando in contanti, mi hanno fatto un piccolo sconto! Inoltre vedere le banconote che se ne vanno dal portafoglio e' un ottimo deterrente contro le spese impulsive/inutili spiccioli. |

ps: i'm changing my maxblocksize back to 0
please don't, this way you're not processing transactions which is the whole meaning of mining. give blockmaxsize a low value, like 8kB, so that it does not create too many orphans but still processes transactions. Btw, orphans that solve a block are as good as any other share you submit. my 2c spiccioli |

tosaki, please, pretty please , make current grid view optional, it is very hard on my eyes. btw, grid view does not work on firefox (win and mac) when viewing recently added and soon ending where the grid for the first page of items is too much to the right and can only be seen partly. the old "list" view was a LOT better, IMHO. thanks. spiccioli. |
