1  Bitcoin / Mining support / combining 2 C13 plugs on: May 14, 2020, 08:00:48 PM
Hey guys,

short question: we have PDU's installed that only have C13 plugs. Is there a way to combine the power of those plugs? because a current miner we use draws more power compared to the rated power on the plug AND has a C19 connection.

so far, all my ideas are not very "legal"..

thanks!
2  Bitcoin / Mining support / inrush current on: April 28, 2020, 07:57:28 PM
Hey guys,

I use regular 10A 5x20 fuses to secure my miners on the socket. Never had any problems with the S9's but the S15 and S17 models keep blowing from time to time.. Which is weird because the difference in power between the S9 and S15 is not that big.

So i was thinking it might be the inrush current of the power supply's. Does anyone have any figures on how big these can be? And do they also occur when the miner reboots?

thanks a lot,

Lars
3  Bitcoin / Mining support / Double insulation on: April 06, 2020, 07:21:24 PM
Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anybody here knows if the bitmain, canaan, ... equipment is double isolated? If not, I can throw out my type A RCD. It doesn't like those 3th harmonics very much, and would be complete useless.

thanks,

Lars

Alright, thanks for the info!
5  Bitcoin / Mining support / S15/S17 20% KVAR energy loss on: February 27, 2020, 08:45:20 AM
Hey guys,

while analyzing the efficiency of our farm i noticed a high current running trough our neutral wire (3F+N). Naturally we started checking for any load imbalances but could not find any. Time to get out the old Fluke and start measuring.

Turns out the system was producing a lot of (3th) harmonics. 20% of the total load to be exact. which means our generator consumes 20% more gas due to the VAR energy the transformer has to give. Also skin effect is definitely taking place in our cables, but luckily we over-dimensioned.

currently we are preforming the same measurements on our farms with S17's because there has been running a big current trough the neutral wire as well. Not a good forecast.

My best guess is that the power supply's are distorting the net. Placing a filter could work, but is not very cost efficient.

Has anyone else come across this problem? is this because of the Bitmain power supply's? Do other brands have the same amount of harmonics?

thanks,

Lars
6  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / What are the current best mining containers? on: March 20, 2019, 04:05:37 PM
Hey Guys,

We are drifting away from the current datacenters that host our mining business. So now we're looking into maybe using some mining containers, if they work.
Any good companies out there you can recommend?

We'd prefer to fit in at least 200 S9 form-factors (for the moment).

Thanks!
7  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Cooling my racks with "free-cooling" on: June 27, 2018, 10:25:04 AM
Thanks for your response!

I run 70 degrees on a cold day, so the fan is only there for when it hits 25 degrees outside.

The blow out isle for the miners is 50cm and then goes directly outside through big rosters. By the way, the cold and warm isles are airtight sealed from each other. I have used duct hoses and had an 2 degree impact.

So the main question remains; why does the forced air have a negative impact on the system in general?

Hi everybody,

i've been mining for a while now and because of the size decided to work with a hot and cold isle. I thought about creating a high pressure side on the cold isle and use a big centrifugal fan that pulls the air through the filter case to the cold side. The centrifugal is chosen because it delivers way more pressure compared to axial fans.

Now if i start my system, without my fan, temperatures reach 70 degrees on my S9 modules (I have a hatch through which they can pull the air themselves on colder days). But when I test my system with the big ass fan, temps rise to a whopping 90 degrees! This even though the fan delivers way more air then the S9 units combined. Is this maybe a turbulence problem?

I'm a bit in the dark here...

I think i should try sucking the air on the hot isle.. But i'm still wondering why this does not work... Any thermodynamic geniusses here?

regards,
Lars
9  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Mining containers static electricity on: January 24, 2018, 03:54:01 PM
I've been reading around and finding all sorts of "portable" mining containers that claim to work perfectly. Various cooling systems with under pressure and over pressure and so on.
But none of them seem to make use of systems to maintain proper air quality. Now, I am no expert but when I look at the mollier diagram I can clearly see a problem during winter, pulling in dry air creating a static electricity problem. Most of the time they don't even have a proper dust filter..

So my question; all those simple big fan cooled containers, do they even work? Or are they hiding their cooling systems engineering?,

im curious if some of you have ever seen one of those things in action!
