881  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: On Ordinals: Where do you stand? on: May 11, 2023, 05:11:59 AM
I am not as well informed about the vision Satoshi had for Bitcoin beyond the first years of existence. But I assume he would picture mining to become profitable eventually as his project grew through time.

Because, obviously he needed to created a good reason for the miners to work and there is no better universal incentive in this life than money and love. Unfortunately much of the love and passion for the project is long gone now profitability is more important.

It makes me kind of sad to see the Mempool in such state, to be honest.

Satoshi wanted everybody to contribute to the network that's why he thought "1 CPU = 1 vote" is a good idea and it was... as long as people don't get greedy but we are all greedy in the end. That's how capitalism works. Then satoshi also predicted the next thing which was going  to happen and that was the server farms and they happened too.

Maybe he thought this time would be different, maybe nobody would get greedy and everybody would mine on their PC's... He had to try it to know what will happen next and he found out about it. It happened just like he worried.

One CPU-One Vote is an important concept because when you go to elect a president, no matter how much money you have, you can only vote once. It is because one person-one vote. In the current state of PoW, you can have millions of votes in your possession and get away with it.
882  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Ordinals make having a copy of the Bitcoin blockchain justifiably illegal? on: May 11, 2023, 05:02:28 AM
If you have any illegal content in your PC/home it doesn't matter if it is on a blockchain copy or in a folder, USB stick etc... So yes in this case having a copy of blockchain that has illegal content in it would be a crime. That's another reason to cancel Ordinals/NFT's on bitcoin. Or... You can delete the blockchain copy of yours and keep using bitcoin. In the end it is not mandatory to have a copy of the blockchain to use bitcoin.
883  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Ordinals on the edge of getting canceled on: May 10, 2023, 05:52:50 PM
Ordinals should stop. It was a big mistake and now the devs should do whatever necessary. We already have a platform for this kind of stuff and it is called ETH/BNB. BTC should do what it does best and that is being a currency and a store of value. I understand that the devs are working hard to improve bitcoin but this clearly didn't work. There is nothing to be ashamed of. We all make mistakes. Now it is time to fix this.
884  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The severity of the Ordinals Attack is increasing on: May 09, 2023, 06:59:54 AM
So who hates Bitcoins today?,

We all know  that in 2017, Roger ver or MemoryDealers and friends try to attack Bitcoin blockchain such as today, they seek to tell the world if the size of the Bitcoin blockchain is small and can't accommodate the transactions.

So if someone (maybe altcoin enthusiastic) tries to do the same thing in 2017, that is possibly the same person (or community).

From today we have to watch carefully also Craig Wright, Roger Ver, and their friend. Those communities still mining Bitcoin, right? maybe they did this for profit purposes, and simultaneously drop the prestige of bitcoin.

Tbh I don't care who is attacking bitcoin because it doesn't matter at all. It could be anybody. Maybe it is just a group of random haters... The point is, bitcoin should be stronger than these attacks. If bitcoin dies after an attack like that then bitcoin don't deserve to survive at all. Like you said, Bitcoin survived these attacks before. They tried to bring it down in 2017 and bitcoin didn't care.

What changed this time? I missed the late events but it seems like these NFT thing is responsible for it. And how did ordinals&NFT's become available on bitcoin? The last time I was interested in the tech, bitcoin didn't give a crap about token creation. Who let that happen? Whoever it is, he miscalculated everything and now we are paying the price.

I think the more features getting added to bitcoin, the more vulnerable it gets to the new attack vectors. (just like any other software) I hate Craig Wright for everything he is but maybe he was right about this one.

Sometimes less is more.
885  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Lightning network for signature campaign payment? on: May 09, 2023, 06:42:58 AM
Nearly impossible to convert them to regular bitcoins and the exchange I use don't accept LN. Sometimes I use my bitcoins to pay my bills and I need to convert them to my local currency. If I get my payments via LN then it will be very hard to do that. Campaign managers can easily solve this problem if they use some other currency other than BTC. LTC for example is as widely accepted as BTC and it is pretty fast for now. Instead of making things complicated, use something else till BTC gets its shit together.
886  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How's your gambling experience right now? on: May 08, 2023, 07:28:09 AM

The transaction fee on Bitcoin is increasing day by day. It cost now 14$ for a low-priority transaction to 17$ for high priority transaction. I was planning to make a deposit today on my casino account until I notice the high fee on my electrum sent tab. The fee is almost 5% of my total bankroll that I was supposed to deposit. I decided to rest for now since I will be down immediately by 5% for a transaction that I don't know when will gonna be confirmed.

Is anyone still playing today with this high fee? I think those gamblers that leave funds in the casino are very happy that they didn't need to experience this fee drama.

I didn't do any transactions lately so my gambling experience has nothing to do with the current state of the bitcoin network. I can gamble just fine as long as I don't want to deposit or withdraw I think. I heard even Binance stopped bitcoin withdrawals and that's quite alarming. If the devs don't fix this soon then bitcoin may even lose its #1 seat to some other coin. Fuck NFT's. They should just scrap it away. I don't know who came up with the ordinals idea but he ruined bitcoin with that move. Just remove it and bitcoin will be the king again.
887  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What kind of rewards/bonuses do you prefer? on: May 08, 2023, 07:24:01 AM
Hi we are changing the reward system and we would like to have some feedback before launch the new system

What kind of rewards/bonuses do you like ?

Welcome bonuses , cashback , freespins etc ?

or what kind of rewards would you like to see in an online casino ?

Thanks

I am a fan of free spins lately. Freebitco.in has been giving away 1 free WoF spin to the active players and It is pretty fun. I actually hit some pretty big rewards like golden tickets. Welcome bonuses and cashbacks are cool too but free stuff is always the best. You know what they say "You gotta spend money to make money." and freebitco.in just delivers that. They give away so much free stuff, in the end they make more than what they give. The other casinos should learn from their example.
888  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Another side of Sports betting you may not know about on: May 07, 2023, 08:08:17 PM
I am reading that sports betting can affect the game negatively and results in reduced public confidence.

Sports betting may affect the game negatively only if the player has also made bets on the game he is playing in and that's already forbidden. What if the player's distant relative made the bet though? That would complicate things. Stuff like that indeed happens and the public would indeed lose their confidence in the games because of those incidents.

Let's say I am the goalkeeper of Team A. In the last minute right before the game, my brother told me that he wagered on the Team B's win against my team. That might affect me in a negative way. It shouldn't normally but we are humans... When people learn about that story, they will question my professionalism righteously.
889  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's with Bitcoin transaction fee? on: May 07, 2023, 03:00:21 PM
Shieet. That’s pretty fucked up. I haven’t done any transactions lately and I am quite shocked right now. Hopefully the devs will remove that shitty idea called “ordinals” and bitcoin will become usable again. Otherwise this has the potential to kill bitcoin.  In the end one of the best selling points of bitcoin was its ability to make cheap transactions. If bitcoin can’t do that anymore than it will be useless for the average guy.
890  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What a shame on: May 07, 2023, 11:30:46 AM
Maybe that kid’s father is working for the government and that’s the reason he is a fan of the government… We can’t exactly know his reasoning. In the end there are people that like the governments as well. Not everyone is as rebellious as the bitcoiners. Some people just want to be sheep. Baaa baa. And you know what? They are actually more than you think. They are the reason why governments and banks are still around. These people need them.
891  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Big is the online gambling industry today? on: May 06, 2023, 08:05:49 PM
I disagree entirely. Physical casinos are dying and people aren't going to go back. How many ways can you reinvent casino games that would make it any more attractive to a prospective gambler than already exists -- not much. The physical casinos had monopolies on the industry because the overhead on operating these physical locations are too high. Digital casinos don't have that large of an overhead nor do they need to comply with so many regulations so it's only that much more attractive.

Player side, me personally, I don't particularly care much for the experience of a physical casino. It's not that important to me.
I also think along those lines, extremely luxurious casinos could still thrive as they can attract the richest and offer them incredible service and a great experience, however I think the casinos aimed to the middle class are bound to eventually disappear, Las Vegas could thrive since gambling was basically banned everywhere on the US and anyone that wanted to gamble legally had to go there to get that experience, but now gambling is everywhere and you can even do so from your home with your smartphone, so I do not think those casino can survive with their current business model.

What middle class? There is no middle class left. Not in the US, not in the rest of the world. Actually there are only 2 types of players in gambling. 1) The rich, 2) The poor. There isn't anything between. The big casinos want to attract the rich people and the others are getting the poor. Poor people are also the perfect addicts because they don't have anything to lose other than what they got as a paycheck that month and every new month is a chance to get rich. So they will be playing forever till they die and 99.99% of them die poor.
892  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Signature campaign post quota on: May 06, 2023, 12:00:28 PM
Tbh I don't like the minimum post requirements neither. The campaign I am in only requires me to post 15 posts in a week and that's one of the lowest I've seen out there but years ago, bitmixer.io (to me it was the best ever signature campaign this forum has ever seen) had none of these requirements. If you made 4 posts for example last week, the campaign would pay for your 4 posts... It is a bit frustrating to be having to make posts while you are on vacation you know. It is not that you can take a break from posting. At best you will get a warning for your first offense and then you will get booted if you repeat the same mistake.
893  Economy / Economics / Re: So is SBF the reason for the possible upcoming global finance crash? on: May 06, 2023, 04:07:00 AM
SBF has nothing to do with it. SBF was one of the results. The reason was the low interest rates. They kept the rates so low for so long and because of that crap exchanges and banks like FTX&First Republic Bank survived... Once they started to raise the rates, these shitty exchanges and banks started to go down. The rates imo should go up even more. We need more cleaning. All the scam exchanges and banks must go bankrupt.
894  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Ridiculous Bets that disappointed you on: May 05, 2023, 04:48:35 PM
I lost a 1.01 game back in the day. (meaning the chances of winning was ~99% and the profit would be 1%) It was a tennis game probably. The dude I bet on was beating everybody and his opponent was weak as fuck (or so I thought lol) then the motherfucker lost the game... Obviously it was a super dumb move to bet on that game and I didn't realize it then. I thought, "It is impossible to lose money on that bet, then why don't I go big on it?" I went big and lost big.
895  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling or gaming sites on: May 05, 2023, 04:44:16 PM
Every game is a casino when you think about it. Especially MMORPG's. If you can trade your pixels with somebody in game, then you can sell them for USD too (not in game probably) And how do people get their items? They kill mobs, bosses etc and the players don't always what they wanted. Sometimes they kill stuff for nothing and that's the gambling element built in the game. I don't know the games you mentioned but It wouldn't surprise me if something similar was going on there. Another example is loot boxes.

In video games, a loot box is a consumable virtual item which can be redeemed to receive a randomised selection of further virtual items, or loot, ranging from simple customization options for a player's avatar or character to game-changing equipment such as weapons and armor.

That too is gambling.
896  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: There are many advantages to the relationship between gambling and Bitcoin. on: May 05, 2023, 03:21:38 AM
Another advantage of using Bitcoin for gambling is that it allows for more anonymity than traditional payment methods. This can be especially important for gamblers who wish to keep their gambling activities private.

Unfortunately, the anonymity of gambling using crypto is something that can no longer be guaranteed in today's days.
For most players who always lose everything (like me) or who play small amounts every month, they will never need to go through a KYC.
However, in virtually all online casinos, even those that operate with crypto, you will need to perform KYC if you are a regular player who bets large sums or if you need to make a large withdrawal of money/cryptos.

But even so, I agree with you.... gambling using cryptos is still more advantageous than the traditional ones that operate with Fiat.

There are casinos that don’t do any KYC no matter how big you win. Freebitco.in is one of them. There are probably others too but I can’t remember their names now Smiley Freebitco.in on the other hand has been around for years and they are one of the most famous casinos out there. They don’t deal with FIAT or USDT and therefore they don’t have to get any licenses to operate a crypto casino. I think more casinos should follow the same route.
897  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: HODLing Bitcoin isn't merely an "investment" on: May 04, 2023, 10:13:26 AM
True. Bitcoin is a lot more than an "investment". Bitcoin is a way of living the life. You can use bitcoin as an investment or a currency... some people even use it for gambling purposes... but the those who really understand what bitcoin is about see bitcoin differently. Bitcoin is a "fuck you" to the central banks and the governments. Bitcoin is rebellion. Bitcoin is riot. Bitcoin is punk. Some may even call it... cypherpunk. In the end, all of these different people find different use cases of bitcoin and they all benefit from it and bitcoin keeps on doing its thing.
898  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why does Cardano get so much hate? on: May 04, 2023, 06:23:24 AM
I'm a fan of cardano and I think it is making great progress these past years especially last few. But in the crypto community, cardano just seems to be getting hate and also from crypto media. They do not point out the great upgrades and updates that ada is having but just seem to talk about the bad or not true.

Why do you think this happens?  Cheesy

Why are you a fan of Cardano? Would you please explain it to us? If we can understand your reasoning maybe we will stop hating it. To me it is just another shitcoin with no real world use. It was supposed to be an ETH killer but nobody's using cardano for their projects. ETH is still the king there and as far as I see, Binance's own project (BNB) is the second most used platform. Where is Cardano in the picture? It doesn't even exist in the picture. People only use it for the pump&dump purposes and nothing else. Here is a chance to change my mind. Enlighten us.
899  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is anyone else glad Bitcoin is calming down? on: May 04, 2023, 04:25:37 AM
This is the best time to consolidate your inputs or make or make small transactions. When bitcoin goes crazy (higher or lower) people rush to/from the exchanges and the blockchain gets too crowded. That’s why we occasionally experience them high fees. I personally don’t pay more than 2-3 sats and if that can’t make my funds move, it is not enough for the miners, I wait till the things calm down.
900  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Solar powered mining only during sunlight and without batteries on: May 01, 2023, 02:20:55 PM
I am no electrician but I think the electricity you get from the panels is alternating current (AC). Which means the voltage of that current isn't stable. You have to store it on a battery first so you can have a direct current/stable voltage (DC) which you can use to power up most electrical devices and as far as I know, bitcoin miners also run on DC.

The small solar panel I purchased years ago had a DC USB output actually but do you think it will provide a stable current? Of course no... A cloud appears out of nowhere and bam, you machine stops. That's why you have to store that energy first so it will create a buffer.
