1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Have we lost our way ? on: October 13, 2015, 07:07:59 PM
The Cryprocurrency Game is not a solution for any actual problem...
Bitcoin or Alts are not a "solution" for anyone with some credit cards and a PayPal account.

Fair distributed Cryptocurrency is a solution to massive fiat worldwide scam. The most important thing about Bitcoin is the way it is issued.

Yes, and the majority of coin developers have prayed upon this and the success of bitcoin to make more bitcoin. Sometimes I think some people have become such shills they've actually started to believe their own rhetoric. Well of course your coin is going to be the next big thing. You're holding it.

Perhaps if more people were collectively focussed on creating a better cryptocurrency than primarily trying to line their own pockets, we'd be in a very different position, but when it comes to wealth, greeds always wins out.

Which is not to say that good things cannot be born of greed. Flowers grow in manure, after all.

I think some very interesting technologies have come out of the altcoin scene, and it's as good as we could have expected. I think what disappoints most is that they failed to "get rich quick", but it is that very mentality that plagues these boards, and that plagues the altcoin scene. It's killed off many coins, although the argument could perhaps be made that those coins that were innovative enough were able to ride the wave of the penny-stock pump-and-dump mentality and the singular gimmicks of bitcoin clones that are now since forgotten.

People have also grown tired of being fed each other's bullshit over buying into their bags. It's the same mentality of penny-stocks, and for every winner, there's a loser. If you want to play that game, then you're not investing in the future of cryptocurrency. You're short-term gambling.

Services and/or innovation, not gimmicks and shiny PR stunts designed to sucker in investors. This game has been long played out on the stock markets, and now the market has become saturated with altcoins. I think it's gone as well as could have been expected, really.

No altcoin is going to take Bitcoin's crown any time soon, not unless the coin suffers enough spectacular failure. Then any of the top altcoins could end up taking its place.

This will go down some more.  Buterin and co. will be needing some funds to continue development.

Sadly it looks seriously like this, this is such a waist of such a beautifull concept, this IS what blockchain can do, but we need an ether completely decentralized....

It's to be expected when the IPO was so unbelievably hyped. They should have sought another funding model.

What are you talking about?  They made quite a bit of BTC with their funding model, both in the presale and the listing at the exchanges...  And outside the SEC's clutches too.  They did well for themselves.

But they should have sought for another spending model though.

I am talking purely about the initial IPO and price evaluation they put on Ethereum. When I said they should have sought another funding model, I am by no means saying the funding model was a failure for them.

5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are the Bitshares Communists/Corporate Fascists Running a Pyramid Scheme? on: October 13, 2015, 07:30:13 AM
This is closer to Multi-Level Marketing, which can still be shady, however is also a legitimate form of marketing. It really depends on the finer details.

Let me quote wiki on MLMs:

Quote
The network marketing or multi-level marketing (MLM) business has become associated with pyramid schemes. According to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, many MLM schemes "simply use the product to hide their pyramid structure".[7] While some people call MLMs in general "pyramid selling,"[8][9][10][11][12] others use the term to denote an illegal pyramid scheme masquerading as an MLM.[13]

The Federal Trade Commission warns, "It’s best not to get involved in plans where the money you make is based primarily on the number of distributors you recruit and your sales to them, rather than on your sales to people outside the plan who intend to use the products."[14] It states that research is your best tool and gives eight steps to follow:

1 - Find—and study—the company’s track record.
2 - Learn about the product.
3 - Ask questions.
4 - Understand any restrictions.
5 - Talk to other distributors. Beware of shills.
6 - Consider using a friend or adviser as a neutral sounding board, or for a gut check.
7 - Take your time.
8 - Think about whether this plan suits your talents and goals.[14]

Some authorities contend that MLMs in general are nothing more than legalized pyramid schemes.

Yes, but you're not hiring distributors, so it's not a pyramid scheme. It's a referral scheme. There's only 1 tier, too.

I should also point out I have never had any dealings with Bitshares, so I have nothing to gain/lose here. I don't think this is a pyramid scheme.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Are the Bitshares Communists/Corporate Fascists Running a Pyramid Scheme? on: October 13, 2015, 03:51:03 AM
While I can't vouch for this scheme's legitimacy, it's not a Pyramid Scheme. The people at the bottom aren't paying the people at the top. The service already exists. Additonally, it only appears to be one-layered, which doesn't make it a pyramid. This is closer to Multi-Level Marketing, which can still be shady, however is also a legitimate form of marketing. It really depends on the finer details.

We'll be doing the final phase of this phase of the distribution very soon, so be to have to your wallets active.

I'm hard at work on developing the PreminePlus platform, which will fully automate all future coin distribution. I'll post more news on that once the system is ready for alpha.

The project will stop? Why has my wallet for months without first PMPcoin? If so I can only say sorry, I am a in the closely watched PMPcoin dynamic, very disappointed!

Do you mean you haven't received any stakes, or do you mean distributions?

When will start the next round of distribution?

Soon, I believe, but it will be the last round of this phase of the distribution.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PMP] PreminePlus Launch ~ New Features! ~ Oct Signup Free Distribution! on: June 27, 2015, 08:52:41 PM
I have a message on wallet. Instead of stalking message it says: "WARNING. Checkpoint is too old. Wait for blockchain to download, or notify developers". Anyone knows how to fix it? I already deleted blockchain and reinstalled wallet but that didn't work. Blockchain is up to date. Any other advice?

It's a common issue with a lot of wallets, but has no impact on your wallet (except that it obscures the blockchain download progress bar), but we'll look at fixing it at some point. Might just be a simple case of removing the error message from the source.

Any slots still open, out of interest? My signature isn't doing anything special, at the moment.

When will the the 6th giveaway be?

From what I can read here, the dev team probably just wants to hold the coins (80k) for an unknown long period of time. And even after that, they will still have 300k coins undistributed. So it will take years (at least) to complete the distribution with the current pace.

That's not the case. That's when the last phase of this distribution ends. Which is to give early adopters a chance to be the first to hold PMP. This is phase one. Phase two will introduce an entirely new distribution model. One which won't be controlled by the dev team, and will be more automated. But more importantly, will introduce a model which will allow PMP to gain value, and this is how a currency that is given away can hold wealth.

We can hold the final giveaway (80k) of phase one soon. Anyone who is part of phase one is still an early adopter, so nobody is losing out, regardless of when the giveaway takes place. You're still staking your coins, after all.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PMP] PreminePlus Launch ~ New Features! ~ Oct Signup Free Distribution! on: June 26, 2015, 05:23:10 PM
PMP is not dead, and I have not abandoned it. The premine is perfectly safe and safely locked up in cold storage. As I said before, If I were ever to quit, I'd tell you. I wouldn't just vanish, although I appreciate the wall of silence has concerned many of you, and for that I apologise.

Unfortunately my personal life has been extremely busy, and I have a very demanding job. As my livelihood depends on my job, it has to take priority above all else. I should have said as much, but I've been under an immense amount of pressure, and mentally, I just haven't been able to take on board anything else for the past month. It's been pretty hectic.

However, do not think I'm coming back empty handed. The skills I am developing, and have developed, are exceptionally important to the project plan of PreminePlus. As long as there are still enough people interested in this cryptocurrency, I will do my best.

The end goal is a cryptocurrency that is entirely self-sufficient, and when that happens, it will more or less maintain itself. But that does mean the platform for PMP needs to be developed, and that plan hasn't changed.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [PMP] PreminePlus Launch ~ New Features! ~ Oct Signup Free Distribution! on: April 15, 2015, 08:32:50 PM

Thanks for the positive encouragement guys/gals.

Nothing too serious, but it is important, so I need to get it out of the way before I can devote more development time back into PMP. Although direct development is currently pending for the time being, indirect development is still continuing. What do I mean by that? Well, because I work in the web development field, I'm picking up new skills and techniques which can be directly transferable to PMP, and the platform that is in planned development for it, so it all ties in neatly together. So some of the things I'm doing now will be able to directly translate to what's in store for PMP. Which in the end will make for a much better platform.

Distribution has never been an issue for me, and despite the current situation, I can still perform mass coin distributions, thanks to the distribution script. We're getting close to the end of this particular distribution phase, however, so the dev team and I will need to discuss the next phase.
So when's the final distribution and after that will there be any distribution at all?

Finally there is an update. Thanks.

So when will you perform the distribution? It's better distributing coins widely to secure the network than just keeping the coins idle.
There are already enough coins distributed to secure the network.  Smiley

Well, yes and no. There'll be no more distributions in their current form, but that doesn't negate their possibly being entirely new methods of distribution in the future. There's one distribution left in its current form, but no solid date on that as of yet.

Interesting. I still think I have a stack of these milling around, somewhere. I'll take a look if/when the Windows Wallet is released.

@Nullu hope it's nothing too serious man, take your time and do what you gotta do. If you think about it, this project can only move forward nobody is losing anything by waiting. It doesn't matter how long it takes, every little bit you guys do brings us closer to our goal so it's all good Smiley

Thanks for the positive encouragement guys/gals.

Unfortunately some real life issues have come up, and their seriousness have meant that I haven't been able to spend the time I'd like working on the development of PMP. As far as I'm concerned, nothing has changed in that regard, but until I can devote my full attention to PMP, it's difficult to commit to full time development.

Now, that doesn't mean development has ceased, or that I'm not still working on PMP. What it means that, until my current situation is resolved (which it should within the next few months), then I'm going to have to work on smaller development projects for PMP, and put the more ambitious plans on the back burner, just for now.

Me and the other developers are going to have a discussion about that, and what we can work in for the time being. I said I would never abandon this project, and I won't, but I do have to put my real life affairs first, so I can focus on PMP without anything else getting in the way. There are several smaller projects that can be developed and released in the meantime, so me and the other members of the dev team will discuss that soon, and see what would be best to work on.

Great can't wait. Some more fresh news after a while is really appreciated.

We'll get an update out soon. I've been extremely busy with real-life issues that can't be avoided, but work is continuing with PMP.
