1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] 'foo' and 'bar' coins--a "how-to" guide for cut+paste cryptocurrency on: February 13, 2014, 03:55:51 AM
Im a little confused here (no complaints though, really thank you for the guide!). It appears that the guide basically shows you how to re-brand litecoin or any other scrypt based coin, not create changes to the coin on top of that (amount of coins, difficulty, etc.). Is this right or am i missing somthing? Thanks again for the guide!

Coins per block, ports, block retarget time, and max coins ever are in there too, check the "Cut and Paste" section.

Otherwise, yes, I've just made it easier (with the changes to the foocoin makefiles and qt.pro file) to compile, and laid it all out in black and white.

Hi guys,

First of all Shakezula, thanks a lot for such good explanation and guide.

I followed all steps in the guide, however I am loosing the main point, thus I am unable to connect machines to start mining. As I read this forum some people also do not understanding this.
Can you please be so kind and explain what I am doing incorrectly. I am struggling with this and really looking forward to understand.

What I do not understand port forwarding:
" Side note: because I use a VPS for this, I don't really need to worry about port forwarding at that end. On the home PC, you will want to forward the port you chose for P2Pport in the cut and paste section to the PC you're using. For this example, that is port 55884. "
What does it mean?  Does it mean that I should add this port in .conf file of the machines? Please explain me.

My case:
1. I am trying to connect compiled coins on two VM machines: VM1 with ip 192.168.122.121 & VM2 with ip 192.168.122.158 (they are able to ping each other).
2. In my conf files I only put rpc username/password.
3. On VM1 I do ./barcoin -testnet -connect=192.168.122.158 &
On VM2 I do ./barcoin -testnet -connect=192.168.122.121 &
4. In .barcoin/testnet3/debug.log i get following:

ThreadSocketHandler started
connect() failed after select(): Connection refused
trying connection 192.168.122.121 lastseen=0.0hrs

trying connection 192.168.122.121 lastseen=0.0hrs

I added this port 55884 to conf file of one of the machines and getting the same error.
Then I added command connect=192.168.122.121:55884 to one of the conf files and started getting this:

Please help me with this one.
Thank you very much!

I have the same problem.  I am using VMware to host each instance.  I can http from machine A to machine B but and vis versa but when I try to ./barcond -test -connect=x.x.x.x it fails to connect there is nothing in the log of the remote machine so I don't even think the connection is attempted.

I am using a Sapphire 7990

I followed the instructions for configuring msi afterburner;
1) edit msi config file
2) edit registry entries
3) reboot machine

I can change the voltage on the first gpu and it won't change, but not the other gpu.  I can't change the voltage on the second gpu 2 and have it remain constant.  In fact sometimes it seems I can't even change the voltage on the second gpu.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Sapphire 7990 second gpu runs much hotter on: December 17, 2013, 03:13:20 AM
Newest settings are below doesn't seem quite as good as -I 12,12
Also I am using Afterburner to change voltage to 1.1, 1.1 however it doesn't always seem to stick sometimes the second gpu will go back to 1.17 volts???
If I keep pushing gpu 1 back to 1.1v the Kh/s for both gpu's goes up.

Thanks, I've been trying to under volt but --gpu-vddc doesn't seem to work on my sapphire 7990
I've read you need to use msi afterburner beta 3.0 build 17, is that what you are using.

I am now running at an average of 950Kh/s at about 79C on each core, which is progress.

Thanks for the feedback I'll try downgrading cgminer, can you explain why that will help... I am curious.
Also these changes seem to have helped alot though I honestly don't see why.

6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Sapphire 7990 second gpu runs much hotter on: December 14, 2013, 07:25:41 PM
I have a Sapphire 7990 running cgminer 3.7.2 with the following config
cgminer --scrypt -o http://us.wemineltc.com:80 -u user -p password --gpu-vddc 1.15 --auto-fan --auto-gpu -g 2 -I 12,11 --gpu-engine 600-1100,300-900 --gpu-memclock 1500,1000 --thread-concurrency 8192,8192 -w 256,256 --temp-target 75,75 --temp-overheat 80,80 --temp-cutoff 85,85 --temp-hysteresis 3

Couple of things I would appreciate help with
--gpu-vddc 1.15 doesn't seem to change the voltage notice gpu 0 is at 1.20 and gpu 1 is at 1.17
I am trying to reduce the voltage in order to reduce temp on gpu 1

More important is the fact that gpu 1 consistently seems to under perform i.e. it never mines at more than 300Kh/s compared to gpu 0 which has sometimes mined at around 450Kh/s and more at around 75C

The real issue is that gpu 1 will frequent heat up to 90C and while cgminer says it is reducing or even disabling gpu 1 it seems to stay at the nasty temp levels.

Is it possible that there is something wrong with the card or gpu 1?  I've heard people claim to hit over 1000Kh/s with stock fans.

I am running a Cooler Master haf case with Fan on the side pushing air in, fan on the front pushing air in and fan on the top pushing air out.

This is true even running at night with the window open the inside room temp is well under 60F
If I change -I 12,11 to -I 13,11 it increases gpu 0 Kh/s but will always send gpu 1 to over 90C???

Thanks for any help.
