Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Mt.Gox SCAM? $38million disappeared. Large sums affected.

What? I woke up (in the UK) expecting to at least see something had happened. As I write, it's 3.45pm in Tokyo. Nothing new on the mtgox new-sfeed. I thought no news would be the worst news of all...but the price has barely changed. Does everyone really believe that an announcement is still coming in the last couple of hours of their working day? If you were in charge there, at 9am, wouldn't you at least have written something along the lines of 'announcement at 5pm'?

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitpay merchant sign-up incentive scheme
|
on: February 02, 2014, 02:39:25 PM
|
We all want more of our local bars, restaurants and shops to accept bitcoin, right?
Bitpay should offer an incentive for bitcoin enthusiasts to encourage their local businesses to accept bitcoin.
There could be a standard bitpay leaflet with a space for a unique code for each person doing the leg work and perhaps a 0.1 btc bounty for each merchant signed up.
Your thoughts?

Economy / Trading Discussion / noob like me? localbitcoins tip
|
on: January 29, 2014, 08:34:20 AM
|
If you're new to all this and wanting to buy bitcoins on localbitcoins, ignore the 'buy bitcoins online' section and instead go to 'post a trade'. By doing so, you will get a much better deal. eg, today's cheapest 'buy online' price is £495.94 (GBP), whereas you can get them for £478.10 by posting a trade.
Hope this helps someone. Wish I had worked it out sooner. DOH!

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Amazed how Bitcoin starting to catch up.. Watch this CoinMap
|

Everyday i open CoinMap.. http://coinmap.org/BOOM 30 more businesses accepting bitcoins. Guys u'r doing great job keep it up GOGOGO BTCBTCBTClook at the lower left side.. "Currently there are 862 places on the map" as i wrote this post. I look at coinmap and am disappointed. There must be many more businesses who accept bitcoin out there who haven't yet added themselves to the map. I'm in the centre of the UK and I'd have to drive a very long way to even get a meal with my btc! Sign up! There are people out here with bitcoin burning a hole in their smartphones!

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can I pay my US based bronze foundry without them having a bitpay account?
|
on: January 06, 2014, 10:30:26 AM

No, I want them to receive dollars into their bank without even necessarily knowing that I sent it in bitcoins. I need a US based service that will accept my bitcoins and pay the foundry in dollars.
I think the answer is probably no- as that would be a portal to money laundering as a 3rd party is transferring the money without collecting details about the person the money is going to. That is why your foundry would need to sign up with Coinbase, bitpay or some other payment processor first. They need to prove who they are before they can receive money. Especially amounts that over years add's up to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Thank you for your reply. I will try to persuade them to set up a bitpay account.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Can I pay my US based bronze foundry without them having a bitpay account?
|
on: January 06, 2014, 09:01:15 AM

I am a UK based sculptor using a foundry in Berkeley CA. Over the last 15 years I have paid $100,000's in foundry bills and been ripped off every time I pay their invoices by the intermediary banks. I want to try paying in bitcoins bit I'm fairly sure they'll want paying in dollars and won't want the hassle of setting up a bitpay account just for one client. Is there a way to use bitcoins for the transfer and have dollars paid into their bank account?

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / facebook christmas present experiment
|
on: December 24, 2013, 10:14:24 AM
|
I posted this on facebook with a private key QR code. If we all did the same, I think it would generate a lot of interest
Hi to all my facebook friends!
Here's a little experiment.
This is a Christmas present. If you know, or can find out what it is then you can collect your present. As with a cake, you could eat it all yourself, but it is Christmas, so I hope you will take a little then pass the remainder on to your own facebook friends.
If you got a slice then reply below.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone giving out Bitcoin as a Christmas gift this year?
|
on: December 23, 2013, 01:55:32 PM

My kids will receive 1 bitcoin each this Christmas. They are all students and have not got any bitcoins so far. I wouldn't normally give out such a huge chunk of money to them but I believe that bitcoin will be a major story in their lives so I want them to be involved.
Nice thought and hopefully it'll be a nice investment too. Just makes sure they understand it and it's value. i will....and I've made a backup copy of the paper wallets in case they throw them out with the Christmas wrapping paper!

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is not the problem its the current users.

I'm pretty sure that there's a lot of people out there who are both speculators and users. I am currently more speculator than user, but as soon as bitcoin starts to become accepted in places I spend Stirling, I'll become a user. You can't bash people for not using something that they're unable to use. I'll be really excited to buy my first bitcoin pint!
