the bitstream economics just dont work.  There is no incentive to release a public bitstream, there is only an incentive to mine in secret.  Now with the big group buy they are pushing for a *minimum* of profitability so that sales dont dry up I suppose.  "Cheating" is very profitable.  This assumes secret mining on GPU coins at huge profitability.  Selling the bitstream to others kills the golden egg.

edit:  which is why, FPGA mining will always be marginal.  At least I hope.  Whitefire is wrong on a monumental level.  GPU mining is the most profitable when its a home miner.  You can not beat a home miner at his game if he has decent power costs.  His mining cost is paid in part by actually living in the house.  Like a subsidy.  Greedy people don't like that, and they push the "big farm" argument, which is bollocks.  A GPU is a GPU.  Its not more profitable if you have more.  The lower your fixed costs (0 for a home miner) and variable cost (only electricity for a home miner) the more profitable you are.  Plus most miners live in nordic countries where winter gives mining a negative cost, it actually pays to run at a loss because of heat.

Dont go on the discord it is heavily censored and it is mainly a place for a business to manage customer relations.  I felt I could trust mineority but thats only because of W0lf who was very active here.  Now Wolf has sanitized his account and is nowhere to be seen.  Oh god a company has made great things but they were all sold to private (big) farms I think.  If anyone is partly responsible for big GPU farms, it would be those that sell FPGAs now.

I'm more inclined to think that the apparent Bitmain cash crunch is a bigger reason.

IPO failed

We require a significant amount of capital to fund our operations. We recorded negative
cash flows from operating activities during the Track Record Period. If we cannot obtain
sufficient capital on acceptable terms to fund our operations, our business, financial
condition and prospects may be materially and adversely affected.

why Jihan ? lmao negative cash flows.  Price drop will get a lot worse if Bitmain liquidates everything 0_o

As a result, for the years ended December 31, 2015, 2016 and 2017 and six months
ended June 30, 2018, we recorded net cash used in operating activities of approximately
US$5.6 million, US$96.4 million, US$191.6 million and US$621.8 million, respectively.
Although we believe the cryptocurrencies we hold are highly liquid assets that can be sold in
open market to satisfy our liquidity needs, there is no assurance that we would be able to
dispose of our cryptocurrencies in open market at the price or in the amount we desire.

edit: Did I mention they had 28% of their assets in shitcoins and Bitcoin as of June 2018 ?
editedit for readability

About 4.5usd/kwh all included.  Only downside is that under -15c I shut off most rigs and heat the house with heating oil.  Its a residential program we have that provides cheap power but you are obligated to switch off electricity when it gets really cold.  We have a lot of base power generation but peak demand in winter is very high because most people heat with electricity.   Some GPUs I sell very cheap or give to friends/family to upgrade their computers after a while.  Im lucky.  I know the profitability sucks, but if I had advice to give it would be to heat the house in winter, keep the bitcoin and sell it in the next "people going crazy" period.  I'm hoping for some kind of difficulty drop in most altcoins that will mitigate the profit drop with large miners giving up and cashing out.

Winter is here, so its all good.  I'm actually adding 15 570s tomorrow.  Got them for about 95$Cad new.  If anyone wanted to get into mining, its a good time because all the gear and accessories are cheap.

Things are so dead with alt coins.

MY L3+  are working well for heat.

This is pretty incredible.  You can buy an L3+ right now for about the same price of a space heater.  That says a lot.

Im going to leave this here if its okay, its an invite for some new shitcoin but it seems to be alright.  Only good for 5 people.  Might as well sign up with airdrop shitcoins since we all need some extra profit.

Yeah you will need more than x1 for the Acorns I'm pretty sure of that.  I find it hard to buy an Acorn, when a 470 8G MSI model is on sale on newegg at 95$ (seems to be new...but who knows).

Hey...winter is coming.  In fact, its pretty much here.  Expect people to continue to mine because it replaces paid heating.

439  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8th Alt coin thread. Or what to do now that asics are all over the place. on: October 27, 2018, 01:01:05 AM
well thats good, I got a bit less, maybe 0.05btc total unfortunately.  I still hope to play with an Acorn, maybe next year after seeing the results.  I just ordered 6 new 470s (about 170usd in your money) which is a good price here for brand new.  12 month ROI but I got 4 amps left on my PDU so might as well.
