721  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Diablo Mining Company (DMC) [11.5 gh] [2.931 mh/share] on: July 31, 2012, 11:04:35 PM
Q 1: If you own a bond mining turd, you paid 1 BTC for, and it pays you 0.005 BTC per week, how much money did you make after 4 weeks if you sold the mining turd at 1 BTC?
A 1: You earned 0.005x4=0.02 from divs and 0 from capital gain (minus trade commission)

Now,
Q 2: If you own a mining turd, you paid 1 BTC for, and it pays you 0.005 BTC per week, but the bond price drops at the same rate, 0.005 BTC per week, how much money do you make in 4 weeks, if you sell your mining turd?
A 2: You earned  0.005x4=0.02 in 4 weeks, but you also have a capital loss of 0.005 per week for the same time period - hence your actual earnings are ≤ 0 . (minus trade commission)

Why do you want to own junk like that?

Why would I want to sell them? The only time I've sold them is to swap them for more mhash with another one (which I ended up basically doubling our mhash during the GLBSE crash). Owning the majority of mhash on GLBSE is conductive to the goals of DMC, even after the plan is completed.

Theres about 850 ghash out there on GLBSE, and last month's numbers put us at 11 and a half of it. If DMC owned half of that 850, I could finish the plan on the output of the bond/share dividends alone.
722  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] Diablo Mining Company (DMC) [11.5 gh] [2.931 mh/share] on: July 30, 2012, 11:25:34 PM
Are you paying dividends or coupons?
Dividends are paid on profits, not revenue. To calculate profits, you cant keep ignoring the fact the bonds you hold are way under water particularly since AFAIK, those bonds are your company's only asset. You are essentially acting like the banks did before the housing bubble burst, paying dividends (and bonuses) based on profits that didnt exist because they didnt write off their toxic assets. You can keep doing that for a while, but eventually your investors will figure it out.

But what does "way under water" mean? Many of these I sold as GLBSE crashed just to buy others at a net mhash gain. As long as these bonds continue to pay out x mhash of dividends over y time period, they continue to be worth x mhash. Because they are no longer worth z BTC is a meaningless observation.

That'd be like saying the Kindle Fire sitting on my desk is under water because the Nexus 7 just came out for the same price. It still does exactly what it did before the Nexus 7 came out, the Nexus 7 coming out does not diminish the Kindle Fire in any way.

People are not buying DMC for the mining power: selling power back to the grid and leasing high density compute oriented rack space is far more profitable in the long run. I am 100% transparent with my investors. Every month I publish a list of our assets and their current market value. So, yes, my investors already did figure out whats going on: GLBSE crashing and making bonds cheaper only helps DMC in the long run.

Also, I think you need to look up the definition of "toxic asset": these assets will become toxic when they stop paying out as per contract. They are not toxic or even in trouble, it is a contract for x mhash, and I am continuing to get the x mhash as per the contract.

As a reminder, dividend day is coming soon. Be sure to have any share purchases done before August 1st.

Share value is fixed at 1/1000th of a BTC

This statement needs to be included in the prospectus.

(although nothing stops people from reselling their shares at a lesser value to others).

except the fact that you can issue new shares at that price (I presume -- the prospectus as it stands is seriously under-defined).

I think you missed something, its right there at the end: "Shares will be issued at a price of one thousandth (1/1000) of one BTC."

Hey cool, I might finally be motivated enough to set up a GLBSE account.

... shares of DI.BFLSC.Fail will be repurchased at combined value of DI.BFLSC.Fail and DI.BFLSC.Succeed divided by ...

What exactly is the "combined value"?  Is there some sort of "face value" for each share -- the price at which newly-issued shares are sold to the public -- and "combined value" is num_shares_outstanding*face_value?  It can't be market capitalization since you can't actually liquidate a company at its market cap (market cap is based on the order book or last trade price, both of which are altered by attempts to liquidate).  Will you stop issuing new shares at face_value, or change it, in the future?  If not, it would seem to put a floor on the value of the security and defeat the market pricing mechanism.

Or, instead, do you act as a market-maker -- if you see a buy order for one of the pair and a sell for the other at a lower price, you execute a pair of matching orders, destroy one share of one security, and synthesize one share of the other?  Unfortunately unless GLBSE allows short-selling (do they?) there's no way to kick off the whole process, but this would be the closest thing to Intrade I can imagine.

Forgive me if I don't understand how GLBSE works.  But I'm trying to compare this to Intrade and it doesn't quite line up.  I also couldn't find any additional details on the GLBSE page, which was a bit disconcerting.  I'm mostly trying to figure out exactly what the counterparty risk is here.

Lastly, where is "shares outstanding" on the GLBSE page?  I can only seem to find the order book.

GLBSE is both the exchange and the broker. "Companies" are issued the original stock, and then we sell it. DI.BFLSC will stop issuing shares October 1st or when BFL ships, whichever comes first.

Combined value is both Fail and Succeed added together. Right now we're at around 4000:21000 Succeed/Fail, so if Succeed to pay out right now, not only would Succeed get what they paid for the almost 4000 shares back, they'd get around 21000/4000 for each share on top of that.

Share value is fixed at 1/1000th of a BTC (although nothing stops people from reselling their shares at a lesser value to others).

Shares outstanding is not listed on GLBSE anywhere, its inside the API unfortunately.

Can anyone tell me the best options for 5970 in DiabloMiner

currently getting only 500mhash at stock

with ufasoft i was getting 312 for one core so i should have a least 620 for both cores stock I think

of course I want the maximum I can get or at least 700 total which is the average on the mining hardware comparison page

try -v 2,1 vs -v 2, one or the other should be fastest. This should be done on unmodified new Catalyst (do NOT install SDK on top, use the runtime that comes with the driver).

-v 2 gets over 500 the other one lower
gpu load is only showing 70-75% for each core

catalyst 12.2 or 12.6? and I have xp 64bit is that a bad OS for this and i should get win7 64-bit?

Sounds like its time to install Linux.

if u can tell me how i'll do it

You're sitting in front of one whole Internet. You should start using it for what it was meant to be used for.

Dear Diablo,
First of all, thanks for the great program!

On my dedicated computer I've been running DiabloMiner for 2 months straight now, 24/7 without any problems or crashes.
Pushing out steady 700 Mhashes on my 7970 @ 1175mhz Smiley
With your miner I get less than one rejects per 1000 accepts.

But on my other computer sometimes my driver crashes at 1175 Mhz.
This usually happens only when I launch multiple programs...
Windows recovers automatically, but Diablo's hashrate goes down to 0 and won't go up unless I restart Diablo.
Any way to make Diablo survive these video card driver crashes?
Maybe reload the kernel on hardware error?

Otherwise every time I wanna use my computer I have to lower my clock and sacrifice the extra ~20 mhashes.

Thanks dude.

Driver bug, can't fix.

There used to be code to try automatic restarts about a year and a half ago, but all it does is lock up the entire machine.

Well, to answer y'all's question, it still seems to happen when I manually turn my monitors off. Cheesy

I rolled back to 12.4. We'll see what happens. So far, 8 hours no problems, but that doesn't necessarily mean the problem is fixed. With 12.6, sometimes the problem wouldn't manifest itself for >24 hours.

You still need to disable power management and the screensaver.

How long will shares be sold and how many of them in total?
It seems to me like you will sell unlimited shares to each side until October 1st, right?

Yes.

Weird; I wonder why it never manifested itself until I installed Catalyst 12.6.

And unfortunately, I do want my monitors off when I sleep. Sad

I wonder if I roll back to 12.5

Just turn off your monitors normally then.
