Please don't be soliciting my inbox with loan requests. You've done this several times already. I stopped giving public loans to people I've never dealt with.
I wouldn't give you near the amount you're asking for anyways. Your profile status can only take you so far...

Other / Meta / Re: CanaryInTheMine is further abusing the trust system
|

For someone with such a high position to appoint default trust, Canary does need to be removed for 1) not understanding how trust system works, or 2) understands it but deliberately misuse it. The latter is more true.
I've excluded him (and Maidak) from my trust list, not because I have beef against him, but simply because I don't want his massive trust list affecting mine. You can't add everyone and their mom to your trust list, otherwise all these newb's power are mis-appointed.
I suggest anyone who wants to complain about this also add a "~" to his account name. There are a handful of people that have already done this.

Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Will Bank ask questions if I withdraw too much Bitcoin?
|
on: March 14, 2015, 11:10:17 AM

If your bills are only a few hundred every month, then all of a sudden you consistently withdraw $20k each time, this will raise red flags. It's relative to your current normal activities, withdraw size, and average account balance. Won't be too bad if your income is high, or if you have very high balance already in there. But if your balances are always low and the bitcoin withdraws are a few magnitudes higher, you can expect an account closure. Doesn't matter if it's legit or not, they'll deem you as "high risk" and will close.
This is why I try to minimize BTC transactions that has to pass through the bank. Diversify your payment methods, perhaps half through exchanges and half through a trustworthy buyer.

Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Damn trading bots

I check the time when this thread posted repeatedly, finally I understand the meaning
In early January, Bitstamp lost 18,000 BTC, so they shut everything down for a couple days. When they went back online, they offered no trading fees for a while as an incentive to use their site again. No trading fees means you or a bot can take advantage of micro movements in the rates, hence more prone to a flood of micro transactions. That's what prompted me to post the thread. Their fee structure is back again at this time. If you want no trading fees, look into btchina.

I'm wondering what the difference between the two are.
Paypal transfer - notorious for reversals Paypal MyCash - notorious for money laundering schemes In other words, don't accept either payments from new accounts that will try their dam hardest to convince you they're legit. Also avoid anyone selling paypal MyCash in "bulk", or at deep discounts.

Economy / Speculation / Re: I have USD 2000 to invest. Should I buy Bitcoins or gold?
|
on: March 11, 2015, 04:41:25 AM
|
I own both, so I'll try to give an unbiased opinion: bitcoin is more volatile, but it has a higher potential upside. Whether or not it goes up, or how far it goes up, is anyone's guesses. BTC also has a greater potential use, whereas gold is seen more as a preservation of wealth.
And if you're thinking of buying gold, I would actually buy silver instead. The GSR (gold silver ratio) is near its 15 year all time high right now, so silver is a better value. If you have the full intention of owning gold rather than silver, then what you can do is buy silver now while the GSR is high, then when it drops again, swap your silver for gold. By doing this, you're locking in gold profits when comes time to make the switch.
But to be honest, a 1 year time horizon sucks for any investment vehicle. You'll get smacked by short term volatility.

I don't think so, he could just use a mixer to laundry the bitcoins.
I'm pretty sure he's trying to directly scam some more. He will avoid proper escrow at all cost.
Well there's 2 different possible scenarios here: 1) He wants to scam more, directly from this trade. Won't happen anymore. 2) He needs fiat from these scammed coins. Can still happen if buyer doesn't mind dirty BTC. Doesn't change the fact that he has done quite a bit of scamming. No mixer was used, the dude is extremely sloppy. Similar how he didn't even fully conceal his email address on a previous scam attempt.

LMK if you need an escrow. I'll do this one for free.
Will do. If he's a scammer, he'll never take me up on the offer. If he's legit, he's going to have a hard time finding a better offer than mine. Has it occurred to you that these were coins scammed from other people? They're now being laundered, so of course he wants the deal to go through. You're not getting scammed directly, but you are a part of his scheme to get clean money. Whether or not you care about the BTC originating from illicit activity is another matter.

do a few trades with members here having high trust scores...
After I've built some feedback I'd like to start accepting offers from others... where btc is sent first
I realize I'm taking the quotes out of context, but what's quoted is a real possibility. It's the classic example of new account doing transactions with reputable members to build trust, gearing up for the big bust later. Now I'm not saying that's exactly what's going to happen, but you sure fit this profile.

And newbie jail didn't protect against that, it just delayed them a few days. I remember I graduated newbie jail pretty quickly.
A few days? I think it was initially four hours browsing time and few posts but then was reduced to just one post I think before being removed completely. There are pros and cons to it but it probably turned many users away instantly and only confined the spam to beginners and help for a short while before they quickly broke free. You guys think newbie jail during your times was bad? When I registered, they didn't even have newbie jail yet and I was free to post anywhere. Then it was implemented a few weeks later, and I got thrown in newb jail. The worst part was that we had to request to get out, and the rule was to give a reason why you deserve to be let out lol. You can tell the truth, or just BS anything. Mods had to whitelist people manually, and were slow to do it. One of the most inefficient systems implemented right after registration. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=15911.msg251582#msg251582
