761  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Network sent datas on: January 06, 2017, 07:45:30 PM
@Lauda
@achow101

Thanks for the answers

This is an important issue you mentioned. Even if they can not steal our bitcoins directly with MITM attack, they can deceive us with different social engineering methods by pretending to have received our payments. We could lose money.

Could you give an example of how such an attack would look? I'm having a hard time imagining how a third party could do harm by pretending it received a payment from me.

That's not what I want to say: "how a third party could do harm by pretending it received a payment from me."
That's what I want to say: "they can trick you into thinking that you have received payments"

I wrote this according to ranochigo's message. It is not difficult to produce a scenario if this is possible.

Many things are possible if people are stupid enough to believe you. E.g. this address -> https://blockchain.info/address/1QLbGuc3WGKKKpLs4pBp9H6jiQ2MgPkXRp

is advertised as Bitcoin Magic Doubler including a service thread here -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1357858.0

People send coins to the address and instantly get a transaction "back". This will however never confirm and it in fact only shows on blockchain.info. Which makes people use these inputs to fool others in turn.

762  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum sends coin to wrong address on: January 06, 2017, 07:35:19 PM
Where did I download the distribution. I don't remember but I wouldn't have used anything other than the actual electrum web page or if I used a third party it would have been a reputable third party, like Cnet. I was using Windows, at the time, I am using Unbuntu now. The Coin never showed in any of my wallets. I was at a public Wifi spot. Is there an android App that you can use to access a windows computer with?

Took you some time to reply. Got a transactions ID?

Why should it be an android app? If you are in a public, unproteced, badly configured wifi you are essentially in the same network as everyone else that is using the same network. If you windows machine ran vulnerable software it could have been used to take over the system.

I need help I am a new member but don't know how to post

Looks like you figured it out. You need to wait some time after you have logged in, have posted or send a PM. This time will reduce over time.
764  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: recvd btc shows confirmed and in my balance but seems to be stuck on: January 06, 2017, 06:41:14 PM
I contacted them  again and they said they got it. So am I good now to start sending again from my blockchain wallet or do I need to do what this poster said to be able to use my .9 btc ?

"Now to [1], unconfirmed change. You have received a ~0.9 BTC bill and want to use it. In order to use it, you have to use it entirely and send the rest back to yourself as change."
You are good to go. What Shorena was explaining was why those three transactions are linked together. Change is handled by your software and it was already done when you made your transactions.

This^, under normal cicumstances you dont have to worry about change or how it works. Your wallet software will take care of that. When you look up the transactions in a blockchain explorer you will see a second output. Its like you send the coins to two persons. E.g. here

-> https://blockchain.info/tx/be928ef28f9bc65643a33015b85a2d03971950b0da62cf8e9ff8353c0f2f5c55?show_adv=true (I turned the "advanced" mode on, by clicking on "Show scripts & coinbase")

On the left side is the address you received the coins on. On the right side are the two(!) addresses you send coins to. One starting with 1KF sending ~0.05 to someone else and one starting with 1KP sending ~0.86 back to you. Note that I only know which address is yours and which address belongs to the other person because you told me so. There is nothing within the transaction itself that allows me to learn which of the two addresses are yours.

If you click on the little red "spend" you can follow the coins and see where they have been used following this transactions. Now the address that was just on the right side appears on the left side as input. There may be more inputs and there may be 1, 2 or any larger number of outputs (right side).

Only one output is very rare, because it usually means that you can send coins without change. Lets assume you have received several transactions in the past that you can now use as inputs. E.g.

2x 0.1 btc
5x 0.05 btc
1x 1.75 btc

Now you want to send 0.3 btc (we ignore fees to keep it simple) and if we look at the inputs we can use both 0.1 btc inputs and two 0.05 inputs to have a total of 0.3 btc. This is usually not how you receive bitcoins though. More often you receive coins they will be like the transaction you received recently or the once you created, using all (or almost all) 8 decimal places. Chances that you have the exact right combination of inputs ready are very slim, so a change output is almost always created by your wallet.

.... that might have been a bit too much for starters, feel free to ask questions if you have any.

765  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: neg trust sig camp on: January 06, 2017, 06:26:56 PM
I mean, I've got neg trust because I offered my account as a collateral

The rating states other reasons:

#1 signature spammer
#2 Defaulted on loan

and in my mind I was giving that account in order to get 10$ lended and when I was to get paid by the signature camp with that account I'd pay back, but he took that account right away and I was left siht nothing.

Your account is worth more than 10 USD in bitcoin, once you have paid back, your post quality is the only thing you need to worry about. Thats something campaign managers (should) judge anyway, so if you previously had a spot you might get one again.

But ok.
766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [READ BEFORE POSTING] Tech Support Help Request Format on: January 06, 2017, 06:17:45 PM
I personally think "steps you took before the problem occured" help out a lot in understanding the issue and giving good advice. It also helps if the title is a short summary of the problem (yeah I know, Id add it anyway), whether or not the person asked elsewhere for advice (e.g. xpost with stack exchangen) to avoid redudancy and what steps they already did in an attempt to solve the problem.

Edit: also maybe a few "donts", e.g. dont add nonsense votes or make the thread self moderated for no reason.
767  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: neg trust sig camp on: January 06, 2017, 06:13:04 PM
Is there any signature campaign that allows members with neg trust, even if I've got it for some bullshit?

In my personal experience any campaign will allow you regardless of your ratings if you can argue why they should ignore the rating(s). In your case you would have to convice them that the rating is unjustified and that your post quality is sufficient for you to represent them (or the service the manager runs the campaign for).

There are no such campaigns that I'm aware of. You should look into the scamcoin altcoin section.

Regarding your ratings, see here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1597201.msg16555262#msg16555262

Seems you have lost your green and have gone negative yourself..

By The Roger Ver nonetheless..

For one is the color really that important? The wording and the amount of the rating given to Lauda should tell you enough about the person. However this is probably not the thread to discuss this.
768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core taking a long time to load. Been happening for about three weeks. on: January 06, 2017, 06:08:33 PM
I just tried it on his MacBook Pro 2.7ghz with 8gb RAM.  It crashed just as the intro screen said "Done Loading" but opened after a minute or so.

It wasn't doing this on my MacBook Air with 4GB RAM just three weeks ago, it's a recent development.

Can you post the content of the debug.log file please?
769  Local / Anfänger und Hilfe / Re: Anfängerfragen on: January 06, 2017, 04:03:52 PM
Alles klar!

770  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 2.5 Hours & No Confirmations on: January 06, 2017, 03:58:48 PM
What the hell do I do if it doesn't confirm?

Double spend it. After 72 hours most nodes should have forgotten about it.

I don't really feel like losing 1.06 bitcoins.

Do the bitcoin's go back to my original wallet if there are no confirmations after a certain amount of time?

Depends on your wallet.
771  Other / MultiBit / Re: Are my bitcoin lost forever? on: January 06, 2017, 03:52:12 PM
I created MultiBit wallet in 04.2014, exported .key file for backup and kept using the wallet.

In 11.2014 I made a payment and MultiBit generated new address and sent rest of my bitcoin there. I wasn't aware of that and kept using my wallet thinking that my bitcoin is safe.

I upgraded to windows 10 in last august and with my .key file I was able to restore only access to my first address. Which was empty.

So that means there is no way to access the new address? Thanks!

When you upgrade to windows 10 the files are kept in specific folders. The files you need should still be there. ... or did you just buy a new computer and put the old one into the fire?
772  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: recvd btc shows confirmed and in my balance but seems to be stuck on: January 06, 2017, 03:49:20 PM
i think this is the transcation id for the .9 that i should have received

 fae2abbad71d4a4dbc819bd75dbd561592fbd83dabd258b2d7041c1bda129a28

That one is fine and confirmed -> https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC/tx/fae2abbad71d4a4dbc819bd75dbd561592fbd83dabd258b2d7041c1bda129a28

Now to the transactions that have no confirmations:

#1

With the funds you received you send 0.02635294 to 14npg8LyiNSfxXoQNWVoMw2RfBTmXqxhQ2
with -> https://blockchain.info/tx/eed602fd774b8c3440839a0b34beeb6b4f2343e2a0e79456e154dc69febfa25f

That transaction is unconfirmed and was unknown to other blockchain explorers like blocktrail, which suggests that its badly propagated. I gave it a push in order to make it better known to the network. The fee is reasonable with 65 satoshi per byte.

#2

Next you used the unconfirmed change[1] to send 0.04868677 to 1KFLoMPZGxaSN5GFH2gJsuYpkWQHbjF3Ys
with -> https://blockchain.info/tx/be928ef28f9bc65643a33015b85a2d03971950b0da62cf8e9ff8353c0f2f5c55

Again badly propagated, but the fee is fine. Gave it a push.

#3

Next you used the confirmed change[1] to send 0.01044168 to 19UnCwor2dosJcHwoHYRCytfDRYS7Bk48q
with -> https://blockchain.info/tx/5975636c8cec4bc089446fb3a0c243937cf483f44e2baf69162fe12feaef6e14

#4 -> https://blockchain.info/tx/a1e487131ce81f3b43f05b6930169a810a9e1881161ee9ca82fed05fbbba5cef
#5 -> https://blockchain.info/tx/27994fd5e51da67e6edf681e206d3e60b9a58d63c74f06dbe5cef279c4ac7028

Same story.

Now to [1], unconfirmed change. You have received a ~0.9 BTC bill and want to use it. In order to use it, you have to use it entirely and send the rest back to yourself as change. Until the transaction you used first to spend coins is confirmed none of the following transactions can confirm. Additionally there was an issue with your wallet or service propagating the transactions in the network, thus I assume you are using blockchain.info, because it seems no other blockchain explorer knew about your transactions before I pushed them into the network again.

Now that they are well known, it should only take a few hours until they are confirmed.

-snip-
Exactly what command are you using to start Bitcoin Core? Go to ~/.bitcoin and double check that there is no bitcoin.conf file there. If there is, please post the contents of that file.

There will a bitcoin.conf with something along the lines of

Code:
...
paytxfee=0.00
...

@chu_11 from what you said you might not be able to see the .bitcoin folder. Its in your "home" (cd ~ in terminal) and its hidden (the . at the beginning). You might have to change how your folder browser shows folders. If you are in your home folder in the terminal you can just change into the hidden folder with cd .bitcoin even when you cant see it. You try opening the file with one of the following commands from terminal:

  • gedit bitcoin.conf
  • leafpad bitcoin.conf
  • nano bitcoin.conf
774  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: recvd btc shows confirmed and in my balance but seems to be stuck on: January 06, 2017, 02:42:54 PM
#1 the BTC price droped, hence its showing less
#2 how much fee did you pay on the transactions?
#3 how large in byte are the transactions?

TX with low fee take time to confirm. The 3 likely depend on eachother to confirm.

I just got an email from coinbase this morning that the bitcoin would be returned back to sender if i do not login to claim it in 14days.

This is such a mess. You can buy bitcoin via coinbase without email? Did you leave any data with them at all?

MY QUESTION IS:
 -Should i create another account with coinbase using that same email which is already active on blockchain.info?

I dont know, Im not even sure anymore you actually did buy something or if someone is trying to scam you.

-Hope this won't cause more complications? Is it possible for one to register on blockchain.info and coinbase with same email address?

What you are essentially asking is: Is it possible for one to register on facebook and google+ with the same email address?

@Dudeperfect:i dont have a coinbase account EXCEPT blockchain.info. But when the bitcoin was sent to my email, i was asked to click a link on COINBASE and claim the bitcoin which i didnt do cos i thought that would cause more ploblems since i already used that same email to create a wallet with blockchain.info. Can i have a wallet with coinbase and blockchain.info using the same email?

You can have as many wallets as you want. Coinbase and blockchain.info wallets are just like accounts with a service that happen to help you manager bitcoins. Keep in mind that transfering bitcoin between wallets usually cost fees.

@Mancryptos: It was when i confirmed the new link sent the second time to my email that i was able to log in and get that address but before then, bitcoin had already been sent to email address since wallet wasnt confirmed yet.

@Diced90:bitcoin was sent to my email (which i used to open blockchain.info account) since blockchain wallet was NOT YET VERIFIED. I didnt verify blockchain wallet via email and i went ahead to send wallet id to sender. But he sent to email cos wallet wasn't valid. Hope u understand?

Bitcoins. Are. Not. Send. To. E-Mail. No matter what some service suggests you, its impossible to send bitcoins to email addresses.

@neochiny:yes email instead of nlockchain. I didnt giv sender this address. I got this address after i had verified my wallet cos i hadnt done that prior to purchasing butcoin. I dont have account with coinbase. Do u tink u shud create one? The email that the btc was sent to is already recognized on blockchain.info. Can i still create a coinbase account with that same email? Won't there be complications? And YES sender used coinbase to send the funds.

If you did not tell anyone besides us your blockchain.info adress you can not expect to have them send bitcoin there. Get your stuff sorted with coinbase and forget about blockchain.info for now.
776  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: January 06, 2017, 12:33:11 PM
Quote
For example, if in a 14 day period you post 14 posts, you gain +14 activity.
If you post 2 posts in a 14 day period, you gain +2 activity.
If you don't post at all in a 14 day period, you don't gain activity.
However, if you post 15 or more posts in a 14 day period, you still gain only +14 activity.

So there is a cap on how quickly your activity can accumulate, 15 posts per 14 days to gain 14 activity per two weeks max?

Fixed it.

Also how about losing activity can you ever lose activity?

Yes, if all your posts for an activity period are deleted you lose all 14 points of activity.

It says if you don't post at all you don't gain activity, but can you lose it?

There is no decay over time, no.

Did check whether or not your coins are still with coinbase? If you have not given coinbase your bitcoin address from blockchain.info they wouldnt send them there.

How do i do that please @shorena???

Bitcoin address posted @iqbal26.

Sender sent bitcoin to my (email address) instead of btc wallet as he said it was possible that way. I would love to post pictures/transaction details but u know the limitations on us here as newbies @Dudeperfect

Log into your coinbase account and check your balance.

Its not possible to send bitcoin via e-mail. You can link pictures as newbie.
778  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Must I do backup wallet after each start? on: January 06, 2017, 12:15:52 PM
The below post was written under the assumption that OP is using bitcoin core.

Hello. I have a few backups of wallet.
If I DIDN't add(generate) NEW addresses in the wallet, so I could don't make new backups?

Newer wallets are deterministic and require a single backup. Older wallet files have (by default) 100 private keys pre generated from you, so you dont have to update after every new address. Depending on how much you use the wallet once a month/week should be enough. To see how many keys are left you can use getwalletinfo in the dev console. You can use the same command to see whether you have a HD wallet or not. HD wallets show a line masterkeyid, older wallets do not.

780  Other / Meta / Re: My main account was banned due to bump spamming. on: January 06, 2017, 12:11:39 PM
Okay, here's what happened my account "francisdean" was banned for 30 days due to bump spamming. I contacted Cyrus and he told to post the problem here:

I hope your ban is served, because you are currently evading your ban by posting outside of meta, e.g. here -> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1739377.msg17415937#msg17415937

First of all, i don't do bump spamming. I only quote my previous post then delete the older one.

And if someone replies to my thread i quote them with my response included in the post.

I think it's unfair to if you call it bump spamming.

Bump spamming is for people who always say bump everyday then doesn't delete their previous post.

No. You can bump once a day and you can reply to comments or questions, but you are not allowed to post updates, "bump" or similar more than once per day. Whether this is true for you or now is for the admin that banned you to decide.

WHERE IS THE JUSTICE HERE? A lot of people here are worse than me. And in fact, i quote my own post then delete the previous one.

If you think others deserve a ban use the "report to moderator" function at the lower right of the post in question.

You guys wanna know what i quote?

"Hi Good Day Everyone, I'm still selling please pm or email me blah blah....etc"

After a day or two, i will quote it then delete the previous one. SMH.. Please mods, take a look at this.

And thanks Cyrus for referring me to this section. Cheers to you! you've always been great to everyone here!
