1  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 6990 Crossfire on: July 04, 2011, 10:45:18 PM
I'm looking into getting a new mining rig with 2x 6990s, i will be running them in windows 7,
so what i would like to know is, does running them in crossfire cause any performance loss compared to
just using a dummy plug ? and also will this dummy plug setup work http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=11 ?

Thanks

The dummy plug works and crossfire is not needed.

Just run two 1kW PSUs. Setup isn't hard, but not that easy either. Done.

I guess that makes me feel somewhat better...

I'm not so sure.

NYSE

"After that location was destroyed in the Great Fire of New York in 1835, the Exchange moved to a temporary headquarters."

"was closed for ten days starting September 20, 1873, because of the Panic of 1873."

"On September 16, 1920, a bomb exploded on Wall Street outside the NYSE building, killing 33 people and injuring more than 400. The perpetrators were never found. "

"The Black Thursday crash of the Exchange on October 24, 1929, and the sell-off panic which started on Black Tuesday, October 29, are often blamed for precipitating the Great Depression of 1929. In an effort to try to restore investor confidence, the Exchange unveiled a fifteen-point program aimed to upgrade protection for the investing public on October 31, 1938."

I agree. Much worse has occurred and continues to occur outside of Bitcoin. MtGox may not recover fully, but I seriously doubt this affects Bitcoin in the long-run.
5  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Using Linux 3 6970 video cards in Ubuntu, have issue on: June 17, 2011, 05:03:05 AM
Try:

Code:
sudo aticonfig -f --initial --adapter=all
sudo reboot

This should actually work... I had the same issue.

I cannot see why you would do this.  Everything that is not a video card is not making you money and 5830's, 5850's and 5870's are nearly impossible to find.

Um, yes, I know that everything that is not a video card in this computer is not making me money. However, in order to use a video card I need a system to run it in do I not  Huh Not sure if I understand what that comment is supposed to mean. But this is about as cheap as one can get given the circumstances

I'm not gonna blow $4000 on a dual 6990 system with mining difficulty growing at such a horrific rate.

An extremely small, sub $400 system that can mine at at least 200+ m/hs 24/7 pooled sounds pretty effective to me.

And 5000 series video cards are still plentiful enough, maybe not new of course, but there are several websites that would allow me to acquire a used one.

Even with free electricity, your payoff is still a few months down the road.

Your $/MH = 2:1 which is kinda high, in my opinion.  If you can snag two 5830s and get 300 MH/s each I think you'll have a very strong setup.
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need to buy 20 BTC fast. Will pay $20 per BTC on: June 17, 2011, 04:51:37 AM
Hey guys I need 20 BTC very quickly, and as such I am willing to pay $20 per BTC (right now on MtGox it is about $17 per BTC). I will accept PayPal or Dwolla.

?

Do you mean you'll pay by one of those two avenues?
8  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the safest way to sell BTC? on: June 17, 2011, 04:48:33 AM
I'd like to sell off some the BTC that I've mined. However, I'm not certain as to how I can go about selling them off some of these coins without getting scam.

What are some reliable websites or people to sell my BTC for USD (preferably PP)? Are there any tips that you want to tell a noob so that he won't get scam? Thanks.

Your best bet is to sell in person and NOT use PP, if it can be helped.

5 PCI-e slots, but this board will still likely require you to use a PCI-e extender.
