1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]CureCoin - Earn while you solve cures for Cancer. True 3.0 crypto on: May 19, 2014, 09:47:22 PM
At least with when the term "money" or "get paid" is used you know it has value.  Maybe talking about it in terms of rewards is better I'm not sure, but I would think unless there's a legal reason preventing us from talking about Curecoins like they are money then calling it money would be more effective.

Simple (ish): have a live value ticker combined with a daily refresh WU/CURE ticker on curecoin.net.
a quick way to see what just one's CPU can fold on 'light' without affecting performance.

Something like...

Code:
At today's rates, your computer could be making
X Ghz = X PPD = 1 CURE = X BTC = X USD$ per day

It's just a bunch of maths with values scraped from stanford and exchanges, but it would answer manymany forum questions and help noobs snap decide if they're in or not. Maybe some lovely browser querying js can dynamically get a visitor's rated CPU speed for it. It'd be even nicer if the PPD value could be tweaked by more savvy users with their GPUs involved who want to use it as a calculator.

Also after looking at my previous efforts for a day or so, this occurred to me

...since there's nothing wrong with the original coin logo reeeeaaally.

I'm in no way belittling your effort, but this guy looked so stock-photo-ish that it took about a minute to google him.

...And since i work with stock images often, I know the shutterstock image license doesn't cover an image being reproduced more than 2500 times, and other redistibution-in-part restrictions are in there too, all of which nixes the use of their images for coin logos. Sad

An original design involving a 3d human and protein chains would be most tasty though. I wanted to render protein coils in 3D for my design, but the numerous images from Stanford's folds proved material enough.

I have compiled a Mac Wallet. If the community could get together some donations for my time it would be much appreciated.

Wallet Address
BDCyKN5uJ4pcwYaZdD8acPFpWzmH2aCUJU

Thanks,

LEGIT.

And damn it's nice to see a blockchain sync from scratch in under a minute. It's a very, very early point to mention it, but an electrum-a-like wallet for curecoin would be sweet in future once the blockchain is a bigger sync.

For now: More nodes! +1

That's why I call for the devcoin approach.  I don't mind if he gets 3% of the coins.  Hell, I'd rather he have 10% of the coins, but only have them paid out as they're mined.

If you were building a factory, would you expect to buy/lease the premises, equipment, upfront costs, and pay for your own survival during setup by trying to barter the unmade, unvalued items your factory is to produce?

Curecoin's kind of a WU factory, a new height of transparency and real-world presence among altcoins, and a long time in planning, dev and cooperation with stanford. And since you can't buy servers nor survival nor business expenses with unlaunched altcoins, and since one can't reasonably expect investors to wait until the coins owed to them are mined when one can't predict an unlaunched coin's hashpower, what else could they do?

Also I think this thread's numbercentric participants are beginning to forget the one or more people all of us know or have known with cancer and/or other diseases F@H hopes to combat. What do you really want to throw your hardware at, pumpydumps and uncertainties, or real work towards those goals that stanford is getting done in record highs? I'm hashing for my uncle now, not BTC.

Our robots are made to help us, so hashing for humanity and folding for our future makes more sense than wearing out all this nice tech so fast just to make long chains of unfathomable numbers with which to move money and argue with governments.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN CureCoin is launched 5/10/2014 on: May 13, 2014, 05:37:34 PM
like devcoin

sure, why not, with a value so miniscule that most exchanges don't have sufficient decimal places to express it.
DVC/BTC   0.00000019   0.00000020   0.00000019   0.2187

Mark my words, the dev will dump and kill this coin.

I'll wager your words they don't. I'll wager you my meagre 15 Curecoins. If'n they're so worthless you won't mind giving some away.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ANN CureCoin is launched 5/10/2014 on: May 13, 2014, 05:15:31 PM
there is no good reason not to merge mine this.

there are two, and here they are: https://blockchain.info/pools
if CURE mergemined with BTC, cexio and that unknown chunk of private hashing would control most of the curecoin generation, pumpanddump them into the ground for BTC like all the other mergemineables, and generally reduce Curecoin's value.

Making a conscious choice to point one's SHA at Curecoin to benefit and encourage folders instead of just amassing mBTC is what gives CURE part of its value. If all the SHA was already guaranteed to be done as part of a mergemine, miners would consider X Curecoins per Ghs and the prices of it on exchanges would reflect that, not the folding.

Also ASIC devices are superceding themselves so damn fast now and becoming pointless for mining BTC so rapidly that Curecoin may as well use that hashing for the blockchain, since scrypthashing it would be a waste of fold-worthy rigs.

I just got this in my inbox , a user has submitted a mac wallet, I have not tested or done a virus scan on it!!! If someone could please send this file through the ringer for virus testing then I think MAC users will be grateful.

Hi, I love your coin!  I've been waiting for a coin with this concept, it's long overdue.  I would like to contribute a Mac wallet to the project.

@ChristianVirtual you are a big mac fan right?  Wink

That's not a mac .app, that's a folder called curecoin.app.
nor does it contain any of the usual graphic resources that a qt wallet build normally would.
Than if you do rename it curecoin.app, its icon is grumpy meme cat going bleh.

malware, trolling or dropboxing the wrong thing error?
clamxav reads 0 virii and running it doesn't prompt for an admin password so limited harmfulness, but still not a mac wallet Sad

No, just incompetence.   Smiley  I must have uploaded the wrong thing.  Give me a few minutes and I'll fix it.

Lol bleh. What was it then? 'Cos I launched it on my 'safe' mac and now i don't know if i need a restart or to forcequit something.

It should have just been a zip file with the source code and the wallet app.  The grumpy cat bleh image was what was in the original source code download.  I thought I had changed it to the Curecoin logo but apparently the original image stuck.

Anyway, even though it's working ok on my Mavericks Mac, I reuploaded the app to Dropbox and had my colleague try to run it on Lion and it just crashes, so I'm removing it from Dropbox.  Hopefully somebody with a little more experience can get a working Mac wallet for everyone soon.

I would imagine you don't need to do anything on your Mac...if it's still trying to run a force quit should take care of it, and a restart definitely will.

Yeah, building in mavericks sometimes no likey lion. If you build it in lion it should be fine on both, though.

My first mined Curecoin from a little over 24 hours ago is just beginning to confirm now @ united-miners pool. Not bad for a young blockchain Cheesy

That's not how you quote posts!

But also they changed to 30 confirmations so my Curecoins mined about an hour ago are confirming now.

Also hey: Unicode has Curecoin kinda covered for a symbol, although it's not in a circle. ☤

how many confirmations for new generated coins?
If you are referring to one of the SHA mining pools you will have to ask the operator of that site if you are having an issue.

You got my ASICs mining Curecoin and 4 mostly-idle computers folding. Well done!

Although it's way too soon for extra projects, any thoughts about curecoin becoming a part of human-powered folding via http://fold.it/ or similar?

Great question! One of the benefits of the way we are handling payouts is that new projects can be added to the coin, which would allow people to earn coins on more projects than folding@home. While we aren't planning for any specific project right now, the possibility is certainly there, fold.it is an awesome project, and a human-powered means of earning Curecoins would certainly be an attraction.

That's great, since machines made of proteins (humans) are good at folding proteins, it'd be a fun way to get people with low hardware power involved, since their inbuilt cpu/gpu combo (brain/eyes) is pre-optimised for folding Wink

Also: mac wallet soon? offer a bounty for first compile if you don't have a mac dev on board?

Also also: MacOsX can't fold using gpu, (although windows running on a mac will).
It looks like it works but never receives work. Known issue. Thought I'd put it in this thread.

Also also also: I might have inadvertently hijacked a long-abandoned F@H username, even though the F@H site sent me a passkey for it. In my F@H noob-ness I didn't notice that it has WU history from 2012 and earlier. I guess if they try to fold now with that username they'll be prompted for a passkey and have to set up a new folding name, so it looks like you need a disclaimer on cryptobullionpools etc to avoid this by picking an unused username for folding, lest we annoy F@H users without passkeys from long before curecoin's launch, or even encounter potential situations of F@H users contributing unknowingly to someone's coin earn.

My block erupters, dusty and bored of BTC, are ready for Curecoin, as is the idle time of all the computers in the house. And that of my VPS.

I notice androids, modern playstations and other such doowackery can fold too, so many users on bitcointalk who wanted to scryptmine on obscure hardware can fold instead.
