1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: October 05, 2018, 05:31:06 PM
Below is the statement from the lead catapult developer.

Really? Who do you think that is?

At the end of the day it's the foundation's responsibility to ensure this coin succeeds. I hope they can do it.

The whole point of decentralization is to not place all trust in a single entity ...
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: June 05, 2018, 11:32:33 PM
I think that ninja nonsense was just something people told themselves to justify the lack of communicating and marketing. Someone said it and it has been repeated a bunch of times since then. Really disappointing how the foundation is handling things. There was an announcement months ago about Lon leaving and a new marketing team being put in place and a big marketing push.. but nothing has really happened other than a few shill articles on obscure crypto websites.

We need something that will truly move the needle or we're totally fucked. In reading interviews with the devs and others associated with the coin, I honestly believe them when they say they don't care about price.. and that much is obvious. Makes no sense to me. We're gonna lose so much marketcap and one more big slide and this coin will be out of the top 20.. and it's coming. Vechain is slowly creeping up while we fall.

Very frustrated with how things are being managed. This coin should be showing everyone else the way, instead they seem content to eat the crumbs left by the real big dogs.

Any constructive criticism for the foundation / marketing team? It's not like they're not doing anything. They just spent A LOT of money on the consensus pavilion, for instance. Granted, the success of that is somewhat debatable.

Development of catapult is ongoing, but slooooow. Wouldn't a HUGE marketing push now be a bit counterproductive?

Do you really think a public roadmap would make any difference? Imo, it seems like there's still a general awareness problem.

I've noticed that too. It did seem more difficult to really connect with the devs as far as making our own contributions, though they've always been very responsive to technical support types of issues. I honestly think it's simply that temperament wise, the NEM developers aren't really people or relationship oriented. They're very focused on coding and the technology and being personable and engaging is a whole other skill set.

Lol. It's called division of responsibilities and delegation.

If you go back in the NEM time machine, you'll find that the core developers were much more active earlier on in the project before the first "Marketing Lead" (xtester) was brought on. It was an intentional decision to separate into two teams - development and marketing - at that time. With that separation in place, there was less need for the core developers to directly engage in marketing activities. Nonetheless, any technical people who wanted to join the project could reach out to us.

As time went on, the division became starker and became far more formalized around two years ago. The development team partnered with TB to begin catapult development. The marketing team evolved into the NEM foundation and focused on NEM1 marketing.

You can disagree on the effectiveness of this approach, but it's a bit unfair to claim the developers are not personable. This is all by design. Building catapult from scratch requires a LOT of effort and focus and some insulation was needed to hasten development.

But in the past the core team have rarely acknowledged any community effort and weren't remotely interested in interacting with them or listening to suggestions. That hasn't fostered an atmosphere that encourages people to pitch in.

I would have to disagree with this. Both the Nano wallet and the NEM library/sdk efforts were started by the community. The responsible developers were rewarded with jobs in the NEM foundation and continue to contribute positively to the ecosystem. There is also that whole community fund thing.

As far as I know, people interested in interacting have generally been engaged. The NEM foundation has a whole team for this purpose. Maybe you know of some counterexamples?
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread - 100% New Code - Easy To Use APIs on: April 21, 2018, 04:31:49 PM
again ...
in these interviews is got that kind of picture that some activity is expected from the community.

Yes. Network effects are very important to the value of a cryptocurrency. More active engagement - whether technical or social - is encouraged and needed.

From my point of view I am a little bit disappointed on me, coz have stuck in this site. Twitter, Telegrams, etc, are too new for me Sad
And the biggest issue to "learn" new media is the rush in the civil life. Sometimes the future there matters more than the futures of crypto coins Smiley

This thread has been barely monitored in favor of the NEM forum (https://forum.nem.io/) for a few years now. There are other more active communities (e.g. Telegram) and more recently longer form posts on Medium have begun.

What I find really strange is this comment from one of the lead developers of the Catapult version:

"The Catapult public chain will support higher TPS than the NEM public chain (~2 TPS) but it will not natively support the 4000 TPS number that is thrown around so often."

Source:https://medium.com/@nemofficial/an-interview-with-nem-lead-core-developer-jaguar0625-6fe9b681ad80

I mean NEM itself is Throwing around this number 0f 4000 tps! on this page for example https://nem.io/investors/

What hell is up with people and their inability to digest simple groupings of words?

Direct quote from the very same page - Mijin, NEM’s permissioned ledger can ensure over 4,000 tps and supports full interaction with NEM

You can easily test a private chain. There's never been a figure for public Catapult because they don't know yet because it's, y'know, dependent on thousands of strangers. 100 tps has been thrown around as a ballpark.

Thank you for comprehending full sentences Smiley.

They are NOT building a community at all. They don't respond to questions on this forum, facebook, the NEM forum or Twitter.

So basically ignoring us.

Worse thing you can do if you want to build a positive community and that pisses me off big time.

A community manager can easily manage 5 social media profiles and interact with the people

The social media / outreach strategy currently being executed by the foundation certainly leaves room for improvement. Hopefully, it will get fixed.

Chief Developer of NEM has not been online since July 2016.

Hi again. I'm glad you like checking my status on BTT. I'm actually writing code instead of posting nonsense here.

Press releases used to be frequent but are almost never done anymore.

There were a few recently, but this is admittedly a slow period. Not sure what you want the press releases to say. Catapult is still being developed and progress is being made. Sending out a press release every few weeks saying "developers wrote more code" seems pointless imo.

In the distance, the only thing I'm seeing right now is a half-lit candle with Project Catapult.  I'm skeptical because there's many projects with fast TPS and Catapult doesn't do anything new in that regard.  People in crypto don't really care about security or other things, either.

I view the strategy as one of building a platform that people outside the BTT community will want to use, attract interest, and foster an ecosystem.

So the only thing left is maybe ninja news but speculators can't really wait on "news that might happen", especially when everything else is going up 10% a day.

You're right that a lot of the people who hold NEM are speculators, but NEM was never intended to be a short-term play ...

Chief developer of NEM and has not logged in since July 2015.   Huh Huh

Hi! I don't spend much time on this forum. Too busy coding ...
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is here/Phase 2 Redemption begins[Updates&Discussion] on: October 30, 2014, 09:48:57 PM
40 % is a bullshit number. Where is that even from ?

Why is it bullshit number? You already have 25% development stake. Why do you need 50% for the "development"? Plus all the BTC and Nxt collected during the IPO? Puer greed

I've never seen the 40% number before. It seems made up...
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is here/Phase 2 Redemption begins[Updates&Discussion] on: October 24, 2014, 02:57:30 AM
It's a very bad idea to be messing with private keys or accessing any crypto on a public network.. Try to avoided that at if possible.

This isn't NXT. Your private key / secret phrase isn't transmitted over the network, so it doesn't really matter what type of network you use.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is almost here[Updates & Discussion] on: October 21, 2014, 12:12:29 AM
So, Is now the time to create a real account data?
Cant copy and paste private key and stuff

The algorythm for account creation won't change so you can create your NEM address already. I can copy/paste it.

Real addresses start with 'N'. Test addresses start with 'T'.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is almost here[Updates & Discussion] on: October 18, 2014, 12:53:39 AM
Nobody has yet to create a thread on the NEM forum about the total number of NEM.  Are we happy with 4 billion?  Huh
I seriously doubt there is any point in discussing it.. It's not going to change. If some one doesn't like that their is 4b nem, they can just send one nem to the nemesis account after launch - problem solved

It's very easy to change.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is almost here[Updates & Discussion] on: October 14, 2014, 01:18:42 AM
I agree. NEM and XCurrency are my two largest holdings by far.

My top two are NEM and counterparty.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Beta is almost here[Updates & Discussion] on: October 14, 2014, 01:17:19 AM
why the price had this huge drop in the last few days? Sad

because i made all the women leave . .   Smiley

edit: no, not all of them, only the weak hands, don´t worry.

Still here, still don't like the comments and don't like you referring to women who would leave because of them as "weak hands". No way am I going to let this thread turn into a gender debate because there is no point and there is nothing I hate more than gender debates on the Internet, but you have to understand that comments like that just are not acceptable in any social context.

If you have to say "don't tell her that" then you shouldn't be saying it in the first place. That's all I'll say about it, and I hope nobody else even brings it up anymore because it's pointless. Let's just leave it at this.

+1 let's all be civil
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Crowdsale has begun[Updates & Discussion] on: September 30, 2014, 10:43:24 PM
The way you get people to spend their coins is to increase the price of the coin or to give them incentives to spend.  PoI in a way is a lot like those reward points you see in credit cards / debit cards and people love that stuff.

I respectfully disagree. Increasing the price of the coin encourages people to hoard, not spend. If people think time will increase their wealth, they will not spend. That is why deflation is such a threat. In deflationary economies, spending power increases over time, and consumer spending drops precipitously.

Inflation has the opposite effect. It erodes spending power over time. While it's bad for an individual, it's healthy for an economy. It makes people less likely to save and more likely to spend because it causes spending power to decrease over time.

well I'm almost ready with a easier to use wallet than the NIS / NCC combo and will be published here https://github.com/pocesar/node-nem-wallet

Awesome! We need more people like you Grin.
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM Official Thread - Crowdsale has begun[Updates & Discussion] on: September 24, 2014, 03:32:51 AM
did anybody receive emails yet for the redemption? Smiley

No, none have been sent out yet.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [AИN] NODE - 2n Gen. CryptoCurrency build from SCRATCH on NODE.JS - Brand NEW! on: September 20, 2014, 08:50:15 PM
I was pressing for details about NEM's fast exchange they keep talking about and was personally attacked in the NEM forum and that wasn't the first time either.

I'm sorry if you got attacked in the NEM forum. Regarding the fast exchange, there aren't any details about it. It's something that one of the community members (rockethead) and at least one of the developers (makoto) are planning to work on post-NEM release. But, it hasn't been designed yet as far as I know.

I also don't want instigate a fight between the NEM and NODE community. Just get along Smiley.
