If you are not interested in the whole idea of the project and you are looking only for profit, the main problem for you will be to sell at the right time. Most of the ICOs will let you earn at least something on top of your investment, you may add some bounty bonuses to increase your chances, but the project itself should represent atleast something. You should wait for a while if you lose right from the beginning, usually you will be able to get out atleast without losing.

This is why you should not put all eggs in one basket. You diversify, somewhere you win, somewhere you lose. All you have to do is to make sure you get a plus a bit more often. If you put everything on one project and it goes bad, you lose everything. If it goes well, and you keep using same strategy, you will lose everything anyway, it's just a matter of time.

what coin are you talking about? I do not remember anything rising x35 in 6 hours.  you should look with a different perspective. you still did not lose anything, you have actually earned 25x. You can never know when is the exact time to get out. it would be a different story if you had to sell for less than you have paid

I've been slowly collecting bitcoins and went all in on ETC half a year ago, lost 80% of my holdings. I know that I will never be able to recover and most probably I have lost my once-in-a-lifetime chance to get rich this way in crypto, but got a good lesson learned

I agree, but bitcoin was the only currency of that time. You could spend $20 once and earn more, without wasting your time on these faucets. But now there are many alternatives, and I'm sure bitcoin price wont change that much like it did earlier. You cannot say the same about alts. It's a matter of luck, but I agree, that it will be time wasting in most of the time

do not use bitcoin faucets, use altcoin faucets instead, especially less popular currencies. bitcoin price wont change much, but anything may happen with alts, you wont lose anything anyway.
i remember i did not want to waste my time on these faucets, but 2 years later each entered captcha would bring me $10 per day

You should use the currency. It is available for purchase all the time, it is not rare, price swings wont affect you much if you use it for your daily, minimum expenses
