Very bullish on this project

helpful at least to know i'm not alone Smiley

i'll just sell off the card and buy another 7950 haha, no worries
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Plugging in 5850 crashes rig for no reason - LTC on: April 26, 2013, 05:58:50 PM
so anyways i broke down and reinstalled windows. the card initially worked, would mine and such with no problems. so i plugged in my other cards... and it no longer would work. neither would the other cards. and even after the 5850 was unplugged the other ones still wouldn't work.

so at this point i'm at a loss, but i'm probably just going to sell the card on. furmark tests on it check out and it works fine as a graphics card for display and such, but something is up with mining it.

now to reinstall windows yet again to get the original working cards, working again. yay.

@pekv i got home and realized I dont actually know what that means. i assume that means to run it via command line but I don't actually know how to do that; i've always just used guiminer with this rig. if you want to provide guidance there i can try...?

far as settings, that means standard guiminer settings for a 5850:

thread concurrency: 6144
vectors: 1
GPU threads: 1
worksize: 256
intensity: 18

my friend got it working after reinstalling windows. i'd really rather not have to do that. but if i have to....

@ pekv will try within a few hours when i'm home from work. tonight is the night to fix this..

built my first rig recently using two 7950's and a 6970, works like a charm. recently bought a 5850 used since I have an extra PCIe slot... but I plug it in and it crashes cgminer. It isn't a power problem, it does it even if I only start up the 5850. Also does it if I try to start the other cards mining just with the 5850 plugged in (not mining).
Anyone have any idea why that would happen/how to fix? Other three cards work like a charm...

TRC difficulty adjustment happens every block now as far as i am aware
[/quote]

really? is it programmed to work that way? sounds wild
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What's up with TRC? on: April 24, 2013, 03:19:44 PM
so the difficulty itself is what is changing? is it just because it's so young and subject to the hash rate?

is block generation that much faster on TRC that it difficulty can be affected that much? or is it just that the block chain is shorter so the difficulty changes more frequently
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / What's up with TRC? on: April 24, 2013, 03:15:50 PM
I'm a bit new to this and I'm honestly just curious what would cause this if someone can explain it...

if you look at calculators and profitability sites for terracoin it will wildly fluctuate from being less profitable (.5 times) than bitcoin to being wildly more profitably (5 times) than bitcoin. But the difficulty looks like the same number and the exchange on sites like btc-e stays roughly the same... I'm honestly curious what causes this fluctuation (in a matter of minutes...). Can any of those profitatbility factors be trusted?

Thanks

alright that's what i ended up doing as closely as possible. peak usage should be no more than 850 (less, really) and I got a 1050w psu. I can tweak settings to reduce power consumption if i need but it should be less than that unless i upgrade all the gpus to 7950s haha

thanks a lot!

alright, cool, just curious really. I can get that info from any number of places Smiley

alright, will do. have any recommendations for psu requirements? i'm getting conflicting advice from various corners of the web..

Question... why under pool stats where it shows "next difficulty estimate" does it always say "-75" ? this number is neither correct nor meaningful, really... Is this just a reject error from website code somewhere?
15  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Extenders for 890FXA UD5 on: April 08, 2013, 03:58:03 PM
Hello, setting up a rig and was going to grab a Gigabyte 890FXA UD5 from a friend; I'm trying to figure out what kind of extenders I need for this board as it's been difficult to sift through everything. I have a 6970 and 2-3 5850s on their way for this rig.

Could someone hook me up with some product links on what I should be looking for? I assume x16 to x16 but it's unclear if it should be powered, etc etc.

Thanks!
16  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Multiple Types of Cards in a Rig on: April 08, 2013, 02:33:19 PM
alright, sounds like it's doable then. what i'm reading suggests they all run the same driver versions so it should be alright i think. thanks for the insights!
17  Other / Beginners & Help / Multiple Types of Cards in a Rig on: April 08, 2013, 02:03:31 PM
Noob here, been searching around and haven't been able to find a good answer to this question (sorry!)

Are there downsides to using different kinds of graphics cards in a rack-mounted gpu rig? I've been deal hunting for a bit and been able to track down a few 5850s and 6950s and wonder if there's any negative to putting them together on one mobo. I see most people building rigs with uniform cards (all same type) as far as I can tell...

i think that's the "can't connect to host" error, isn't it?

noob question for anyone out there. finally got pooled mining working using this miner (props to dev, thank you, it's been a headache for a day trying to see some results here). so now i'm wondering- this is just a test, just want to see if it can work, i'm only hashing at .8ish Mhash/s, super slow i know, in the pool mining.bitcoin.cz; i'm wondering in my stats when i should be able to see an estimated reward for current round or whatever. is it too slow to even expect any portion of the block in return? or do i have to wait for the next block or something?

thanks!
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Error message starting miner on: June 05, 2011, 04:32:17 PM
i wondered if that might be the problem.. thank you for clarifying. i was trying to set up pool mining. i'm sure it all works, i'm just kind of exploring this whole concept right now and want to see it- as a proof of concept, like you said. i'll see if i can get a CPU miner up and running then.
20  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Error message starting miner on: June 05, 2011, 04:18:10 PM
yeah i've used that syntax before, but i'm still getting the internal error that you can see above the wrong password dialog, even after fixing the password problems.

also tried using diablominer and am getting the following error there, if anyone has more insight on that miner. doesn't matter to me which one i use, but can't seem to get anything working:
