41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Why do you small timers even bother? on: February 28, 2018, 06:30:38 PM
If a small timer can spot the perfect coin, and mine the shit out of it, and secure it then forget about it, me might be well off in 10 years.

This.

A small miner can act as a fundamental long-term trader/investor by mining the right altcoins as they are entering the market and essentially securing what could be considered the new world equivalent of stock in a promising new company.

Just wanted to drop in and say how happy I am with SMOS. Wink

Here's a brief recap of my experience that I think is worth sharing in case someone else falls into the same pattern and can learn from my mistake:

I installed SMOS on 3 rigs and ran it for a few days. Everything ran well and I should have been happy with that. But, I wanted to mine some exotic altcoins and thought that switching over to another OS would give me more options since it had more miners integrated into the platform. It also had more features or bells-and-whistles and so I decided to switch over. Everything seemed great for a few hours (until night time) and then I started having issues. Issues that lasted for nearly 2 weeks that cost me a lot of sleep and time wasted on troubleshooting my hardware when there was nothing wrong with it.

First, I was dealing with security issues for an entire week where my rigs would mine to someone else's address in Amsterdam every morning at 2AM. Next, I spent over a week dealing with network issues where my rigs would randomly fall off-line and then never reconnect. Then I spent more than a week dealing with a rig that would periodically drop to 50% of it's total hashrate and stay there until I rebooted it. Of course, it took about 5-10 reboots before the network connection was re-established.

So, after losing a lot of sleep over the past few weeks with using another OS that appeared to have more features and mining options, etc... I decided to switch back to SMOS and I've had three solid days of great performance. My quality of life has greatly improved since switching over to SMOS because I'm able to step away from my rigs and sleep comfortably which has made me a very happy miner.

In hindsight, I wish I could've been content with a sold-working OS because it would have saved me a lot of time and money. But, I feel that I learned an important lesson and that is; stability is more important than fancy features when it comes to mining.
44  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Network congestion on Binance -- anyone else have/had issues in the past? on: February 24, 2018, 06:42:03 PM
Thanks for the feedback but it's definitely not an issue with my PC I'd say since I'm trading on a high-end workstation w/ very high-speed internet.

Did you catch the action on NANO last night by chance? After a 150% run-up it started locking up and could not gain access to the site whatsoever. I frantically tried other computers and experienced the same issue so it was definitely not the computer at fault.

The other trades that I made during the day went smooth and I really dig the Binance platform so pretty bummed that I had this issue. I experienced the same thing early this morning around 5-6am on both NANO and LUN which was running really hard as well (currently at 67%).

Curious to know if you've traded any coins that had that level of action because the other trades were totally fine... just not these two.

Ok, thanks a lot for the tip... I do have a Bittrex account but I guess I need to learn the interface because I'm not very fond of the default layout TBH. But as long as it's functional then I can always use TradingView for reference.
46  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Network congestion on Binance -- anyone else have/had issues in the past? on: February 24, 2018, 05:44:52 PM
Just started trading on Binance yesterday and unfortunately had a bad experience due to what seemed to be network congestion. Has anyone encountered these sort of issues there?

The coin I was trading had a lot of action and so I'm sure the network was overwhelmed but being completely blocked out of the site mid-trade really crashed my run. I ended up taking a loss when I should have had a large gain. So yeah, a little discouraging. Fortunately I wasn't trading a large amount but I have to say that I'm super hesitant to trade any real volume on Binance after this initial experience.

What are your guys' thoughts on this? Have you had similar experiences trading on their platform? Is this typical or common-place to get totally locked out of the site while trading?

Lastly, are there any alternatives you'd recommend? It's a shame because the platform is really nice for day trading from what I've experienced and I really like the feature set compared to some of the others I've looked into.

Would greatly appreciate your thoughts or hearing about others' experiences with Binance.

Instead, I'm seeing a prompt 'Worker login' which doesn't seem to correspond to the rig id account that has been defined already...

Have you tried editing the .conf file manually by directly accessing the drive from another PC?

If not then I would recommend checking those files to see what is written to them... it should give you an idea of where you're at.

Not having any luck hashing with a dictionary so could still use the help.... anybody interested in giving this a try??

I know it's not much loot but will split 50/50 with anyone who wants to take a stab at it.

It's driving me nuts being locked out and I really want to mine more LUX so just want it fixed asap.

Anyone up for it??

So, would you recommend using something like this?

thanks again!

Thanks ZaoXhou! Researching this now so will give it a shot and let you know. Wink
51  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / REWARD - for help with passphrase recovery of LUXcore wallet on: February 20, 2018, 04:41:19 PM
So I recently tried to move some mined LUX from my encrypted qt wallet only to discover that my trusted passphrase is not working!

This is the same passphrase that I use for every wallet and have had it memorized by heart so am shocked that it's not working for me.

It's an 8-word phrase with no special characters or numbers, etc. and so it's most likely just a small typo or a missing word. (However, I'm not sure how it passed entry when setting it up with the double-match process so am wondering if it's even an error on my part??)

If anyone is interested in giving it a shot then I'm willing to share a portion of the bounty with you. It's about 5.20 LUX (~$73USD) and I'm open to offers re: share percentage so let me know if you think it's worth it to you and we'll work something out.

FYI, I've already tried using btcrecovery but apparently it's a little over my head. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
