Running window 7 + cgminer 2.5.0 with 9 BFL singles, after approximation 20-30 minutes this happens: Error: Get temp returned empty string. First on one then another miner until cgminer becomes completely unresponsive and it won't close. It is is never consistent (as far as COM ports/BFL singles) and I've tried changing USB ports. If I try to relaunch cgminer I get "permission errors" for each COM port and I am forced to restart the machine to be able to mine again (for another 20 minutes). I am about to reformat the drive and install ubuntu. DOES ANYONE have an idea of what is going on. I know of someone else running the exact same setup and having absolutely no issue. I don't think its a problem with the singles themselves, I've tried running them on a different pc for extended periods of time..
I launch cgminer using the following batch command:
cd C:\Users\PC\Desktop\cgminer-2.5.0 cgminer -c cgminer.conf -S \\.\COM4 -S \\.\COM5 -S \\.\COM7 -S \\.\COM8 -S \\.\COM9 -S \\.\COM10 -S \\.\COM3 -S \\.\COM6 -S \\.\COM12 -G
Thank you for any feedback.

I think I have been having a similar issue. My problem is I can't rule out the card yet because of how long it takes to get the unresponsive state sometimes. Tried different power supply, even doing a two power supply setup to run 1 card off of. Is this what 5830 typically do when they are on their way out?

Here is my setup:
amd 145 sempron /asrock extreme 870 2x1gb kingston ram 4x 5830 700watt gold rated power supply
The rig will mine perfectly on all four cards for a few hours and then become unresponsive. I had originally thought it was a power issue and went ahead with replacing it and then the rig ran fine for awhile until it did the same exact thing. The power supply I purchased, temporarily, was a 850watt bronze rated, which should be enough juice for what I have. I then began to suspect it being a riser cable that I use for 2 out of the 4 cards. Sometimes I would boot up and it would only hash at half the rate or not see the card at all. I isolated which card it was and indeed it was one of the cards on the riser to a 1x pci-x port
It would run perfectly fine for days-weeks on 3 cards mining full blast. I got replacement riser cables and the half hash rate problem went away and all four cards were mining for approximately 12 hours. I have switched back to my original power supply but it still wont run more than half a day with all four cards going.
Is it just my power supply or can someone offer a better explanation? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
edit: I run all the cards at 960/300, which has been flawless in the past.
I have also swapped the cards around so I think all the cards are fine.

If he found a way to make more money and is sharing the profit with the miners, then I thank him. Miners scratch his back, he scratches ours. I don't see any laws being broken. the people bitching are people that don't have ghashes and are jealous lol.
Thanks for the 115% and your hard work
Keep up the 115% as long as possible

190
I have 4 of these running on a 700watt psu, which stays cool to touch... no where near 190. Closer to 170 but i'm saying ~160mhz at 960mhz core / 300 memory

I've had problems with this in the past. If I didnt leave the core clock at default before I made my way to 300mhz on the memory clock ( first stop was at 500mhz ) my computer would lock up and crash. From what I understand, these are "holes" where the core/memory clocks just cant function properly. Batches of cards tend to be slightly different, just got to play around and figure it out.

I think it will see its way past $10. Possibly a nation will adopt its use somehow, I dunno. As long as it stays about $3 im mining.

Why even both doing 1mhash or less in some of the posts I just saw...or the <50mhash cards...laptop cpus?
6 5830 960/300 1 6970 900/1100 ---- ~2250mhash

Honestly, first it was when I was told that you could make money with your graphics card by "mining". Then it snowballed from there, I started mining hardcore, btc hit $30+...been trying to learn more and more ever since.

WINTER - October through May:
First 650 kWh: 5.0633¢ per kWh Next 350 kWh: 4.3443¢ per kWh Over 1000 kWh: 4.2647¢ per kWh
In the summer, after 650 kWh, everything is doubled due to a/c usage probably.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_rigThis pretty much contains all the useful information you will need in order to get started. Things you will want to spend more money on (maybe) is a better motherboard with more than 2 pci- 1-16x slots and a gold rated power supply.

Right now its way more profitable to mine ( if you can invest into the hardware ) vs buying. When it was less than $3 you were just exchanging electricity for btc.

I think I know what your talking about, but I cant find the link at the moment. You don't need a license though, just lots of money for the crazy 20+ghash boxes
