201  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: July 01, 2014, 01:40:07 PM
It's this kind of news that I see as a big deal. Not using payment processors, keeping the bitcoins.

http://www.coindesk.com/singapore-architecture-design-firm-accept-keep-bitcoins/

There was a theory floating about that said, using bitpay etc. actually does nothing for the bitcoin community, as it creates selling presure whenever a merchant accepts bitcoin as a means of payment, the btc is converted almost immediately into fiat.

It's forward thinking companies like the one in the article who will spearhead the second phase of merchant adoption. i.e. - keeping the bitcoins for B2B transactions.

Agreed although these types of businesses (those who convert via BitPay, etc.) also act as informal "cash out" services for bitcoin holders.
202  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Holy Grail! I wish I could kiss the author of Bitmessage on his face. on: June 07, 2014, 11:11:15 PM
BitMessage is anonymous but NOT secure. Add a layer of crypto to your messages and you may have a chance.
Can you elaborate?

Hi all!

Been a little afk from internet the past week, but back now!

Many has wondered and asked about whats Anoncoin going to do when v2 of zerocoin is released, if it's gonna affect it's development, etc etc etc. And it's not time effective to answer one at a time Smiley

I will write a blog entry about it, where I will answer where, what, when, why and hopefully the rest of w's :p

We're about to release a new site as well. I'll get back to you in short time! Also, I think Matthew is going to give a talk on Monday at New York City College, so I think I post the blog entry after that, in case he says anything that could become a question.

Awesome - looking forward to this!
210  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: January 08, 2014, 12:36:47 AM

...there will be an option in Anoncoin to choose between types of payments...

Can you elaborate on this for a layman?

Thanks,
TraderSteve

Any clue on why price dropped?
Was wondering the same myself - I think it should stabilise soon  Smiley

When the prices went high the volume was also high. Now , the volume is very low, so the prices are down. Less people are buying ANC now after Bitcoin value spiked up.
Moreover , i think people like to buy 1000s of worthless dogecoin for 1 LTC than , few Anoncoin for 1 LTC.

P.S. I love Anoncoin idea so much that my views might be little partial towards it..

There's also the Zerocoin that could be launched at any time right? They've decided to launch it as an alt coin. Once they do that Anoncoin will have some direct competition.

Yes, I'd be interested to see the differences between to the two projects.

It sounds like he is implying a back door, but in another post he said "it's no one's business" which seems hard line enough to imply there is not a back door.  "Not to the public anyway" could also mean he does not expect their methods to be susceptible to common methods of discovery, but that he would not rule out the NSA or IRS from figuring methods out.  He is very much into the details of crypto and is NOT quick to say "no one can break this".

Thank you. That makes much more sense.

Since zerocoin is switching to be an independent cryptocurrency, are you just going to use the part of the open source code that you need?  They are being really quiet about what they are working on and I wonder why they are keeping it closed-source for apparently 2 or 3 months.

Is the new zerocoin going to somehow hide sender and receiver without Tor or I2P?

Here are the only comments I've found (from matthew green's November 16 - 20 twitters)

"Now I can pay you a specific amount directly in ZC, without revealing the amount or our IDs. (To the public anyway.)"

Re: "To the public anyway"

This doesn't make sense to me. Does this mean there is a back door?
214  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: CoinJoin: Bitcoin privacy for the real world on: December 20, 2013, 12:41:43 AM
Sharedcoin transactions on blockchain.info lowered to 0.0001 BTC per repetition. On average 1.8 unique participants are joining in together each transaction, so over several repetitions there is a very good chance your transaction will be directly mixed with other users not just the sharedcoin server.

When did that happen? That's a major change that deserves a large announcement. Are they using BIP32 to derive the new addresses?

It's just for Sharedcoin transactions and not BIP32 yet but I hope that will be available soon.

Great service!

How can this link still be your customer support section?

I'm fed up guys... Fix your transaction fee.

This is the last time you'll bugger a transaction for me. I'm not recommending your service again until you get it fixed. Sending without a transaction fee when the wallet profile is set to normal is not ok. You're the best option for new users on iPhones, so this needs to be a priority.

Peg the default transaction fee to $0.01 and everyone will be much happier. At the very least add an option to send the equivalent of $0.01 for every transaction.

I haven't read this thread, so I don't know how much of a steady whine this is...

Get it fixed before black friday and I'll donate 0.1 btc to the charity of your choice.

Yes, this is extremely frustrating! I've set my transaction fee to "generous" yet, when I use my iPhone to do an in-person trade we're stuck waiting forever for a confirmation because no fee was included. I've had it take up to 24 hours before and this is not acceptable when you are willing to pay the fee for speed - especially if you are doing local trades (sitting a local Starbucks twittling  your thumbs waiting for a stupid transaction to confirm before you can get your cash). PLEASE FIX.

CoinJoin needs to be nicely implemented in Bitcoin-Qt before any of these ridiculous blacklist proposals take off. So for the next 30 days, I will match donations to the CoinJoin bounty fund (3M8XGFBKwkf7miBzpkU3x2DoWwAVrD1mhk), up to a maximum of 5 BTC. Just donate to that address, and in 30 days I'll donate the difference between the current received amount (16.21420773) and the received amount at that time (max 5 BTC).

Theymos, you rock! I've already donated but you've inspired me to send a little more.

Definitely interested and happily will become a patron of local SD shops that start accepting BTC.  Sign me up!

We're growing fast now and expect to see many more merchants come online in the next year.

219  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Easywallet.org - web based wallet, iPhone/Android clients with QR Codes on: November 07, 2013, 03:52:04 PM
- Fees are 0.002BTC per outgoing transaction, which includes bitcoin network fee. Transactions between easywallet instances are free and instant.

Time for a fee reduction, no?

thanks for clearing that up maaku.

*tangent warning* blind signatures are amazing. some people talk about how the future will be saved from tyranny through peaceful parenting. others through the political system. some through revolution. but my money is on the efforts of people like yourself and gmaxwell. idk if you ever stop to think about this, but just the hand full of you guys working on these sorts of technologies might be responsible for saving the entire human species from extinction or worse. i know that sounds dramatic but i really think its hard to overstate the importance of this sort of research.
