Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Was an altcoin the first coin you owned, and do you own bitcoin now ?
|
on: March 20, 2014, 04:56:18 AM
|
I am wondering whether altcoins, attract people to get invoked with cryptocurrencies and whether people once they became interested in cryptocurrencies because of an altcoin now also own bitcoin
my first cryptocurrency was bitcoin, but I stopped mining them after ASICS came out, I did have a pre-order for 2 ASICS devices from BFL, but luckily I was able to cancel my pre-order and get my money back, because they were not up to specifications as advertised during the pre-order.
I then sold all the bitcoins I had mined and lost interest in bitcoin.
But then on youtube, where I been following Bill Still, I heard about quark and this lead me back to this forum and then I started mining scrybe coins and quark and now I am a bitcoin holder again and im not selling them.
anyone have a similar experience ?

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why Doge coin is bad
|

Your crappy shitcoin is nothing but a crappy clone of any one of the 100's of other scrypt clones
and so are any of the 100's other litecoin clones, nothing special in regard to DOGE about this The dev / douche aka: coin cloner, could not even be bothered to create a new meme.jpg for his Coingen coin lol Ad hominem attack on the dev , ad hominem tactics usual indicate a lack of arguments, Coingen did not yet exist when doge came to the market Doge coin is a scammy crap clone coin that is damaging to Bitcoin and the entire Altcoin scene. When major news outlets online report on Bitcoin news and they start including news about Doge it make Bitcoin look bad.. i can see clearly people who are not even in crypto are disgusted by this crap scam coin. Never mind the guys like me who have been at it for a while and watched many other shitcoins like this come and go.. dont see why DOGEcoin is damaging to bitcoin and altcoin, DOGE actually attracted a lot of new blood into the crypto currency scene, that otherwise would not have been here, more then any of the other litecoin clones The only reason it has gotten popular is because noobs that showed up late to the Altcoin game decided they would FLASH MINE this coin.. greedy stupid noobs are the problem and i kinda wish Bitcoin never exploded in popularity sometimes. No It became popular because of a good meme and original marketing to noobs. The intelligence level of Doge supporters is at best.. retarded. Another argumentum ad hominem, another indication of lack of to the point arguments. They are too stupid to realize that their support of Doge and their damaging antics are undermining the very thing giving their shit coin any value at all. Which is the ability to dump the shit coin for a REAL currency such as Bitcoin.. you make Bitcoin look bad by shouting Doge all over the web.. while making Bitcoin look bad while in turn making Doge look bad and worth less.. your smart guys lol Your just repeating yourself I just feel sorry for all the dev's out there that had gone to great lengths to create and support a REAL honest alternative to Bitcoin. The lime light is stolen from them at every turn because of mouthy retard noobs screeching Doge and Much yes 'tard crap.. Ow your sorry for the devs of the other 100 scammy shit litecoin clones, makes sense You don't have to run around like a moron across the web screaming Doge every chance you get trying to lure new people into a ponzi scheme Yet another argumentum ad hominen, Never mind the long term implications of this clone coin crap.. you idiots are doing REAL supporters a dis-service and i am going to make sure your shitty little scam coin goes nowhere by pointing to the new people how utterly scammy and useless Doge coin is. So far you have failed to point out with facts and logic why this coin is a scam , other then it is just a pump and dump coin like 99 % of all the altcoins. My advice to new users is do a bit of research and find one of the other alternative crypto-currencies to get involved with that offer something unique and have a real dev team with a real road map of goals.. just look for them there are many. ok you want new user to pick anything but DOGE, but 99 % of altcoins are just like DOGE, many even worse since they have 0 userbase compared to DOGE and can only dream about one day becoming like DOGE, if you really want to help out new user that wanna adopt an altcoin, point out the good ones and point out the other 100+ altcoins that are just as bad as DOGE or even much worse. You might as well have just posted, DOGE is bad, avoid DOGE, that your only message here

I'm not interested in your central authority, although I appreciate the effort, OP.
Governments are done, and so is their monopoly-money.
Please explain what comes next after government. Liberty and justice for all. Do you have one example from the entire history of the entire world of a country or region or territory, where there was no central authority ? Does not have to be like government as we understand it today, but there has always been a group of men with weapons that was in charge everywhere. I figure that if there is a viable alternative to central authority, that by now it would have succeeded somewhere, it has not. You guys are like we got a new medicine, it will cure the disease, its great, its fantastic it will bring health, ok, has it ever been tried yet ? uhm no, well how you know it works then ? well uhmm, it works im sure it works its fantastic, yeah fantastic indeed.

.....snip .....
If the Devil worshipers cult Illuminati send an IRS agent to your business to collect tax on Bitcoin, you have the right to shoot him in the face and burn his body because Illuminati members are now labeled as terrorist cells in America. That idiot IRS agent will most likely be labeled as "M.I.A." or "abducted by aliens".
That's just insane

This would work if there are no other currency which can used for payments. So long you can use Fiat or Paypal or whatever, Bitcoin will not be a Payment currency, which got hold by millions of people worldwide for shopping somewhere quickly.
Another option, if you could buy things ONLY with Bitcoin, this could increase the worth too.
Well your right about that people don't need to hold bitcoin to shop online, because they have alternatives like Paypal, however since bitcoin cuts transaction fees by 90 % or so , because they cut out the middle man, online shops selling stuff in bitcoin can offer lower prices then shops that use paypal for example. so this could lead to the situation where you can get stuff online cheaper when you use bitcoin.

Don't worry about tomorrows value of bitcoin, just concentrate your affords on promoting bitcoin as a currency, get more and more companies to accept bitcoin more and more people will see the usefulness of bitcoin so more and more people have a reason to hold bitcoin other then for speculative purposes and the price has to go up in the long term.
I hope you understand, that just hold bitcoin don't affect the price, and will never increase the price? well I probably should have expressed myself more clearly, as bitcoin becomes more useful as a currency, more people are going to want to hold some bitcoin in order to spend it on some stuff in the near future, They will want to hold a little cache of bitcoin, they have to get it first of course, which should increase demand thus drive the price up I thought that you would say that, and you just wrote it a bit wrong. But i still guess, this will not happen. If more People use Bitcoin as a currency, the price will not increase so much more. Look, if you exchange for example 1 BTC to buy something, which is 1 BTC worth, you don't buy the bitcoin really, you just pay with. The Coin change only the hand, the price will not raise for that transaction. Bitcoin has only 1 chance to raise, if people accept it as what it is: A speculative investment, like gold, silver, diamonds. If it will be used only for payments, the price will not move much up or down anymore. I do not agree with you view, I think just like in real life where you keep some cash money in your wallet at all time because you might wanna buy something in a shop you see, while you cross town, people are going to want to hold some bitcoin in their wallet just incase they see something they wanna buy when they surfing the web. If one million poeple decide hey I should have a little bitcoin in my wallet just in case i see something on the net i wanna buy, that will have a huge impact on the price of bitcoin.

Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: WTF Jimmy Wales aka Wikipedia ?
|
on: March 14, 2014, 09:35:57 PM
|
He is new to all this and needs guidance - when many of us here first got into Bitcoin it took a while to wrap our heads around the concepts involved. Give him a chance, it's been said that Bitcoin is the spiritual cousin to Wikipedia so it shouldn't take a smart man like Jimmy long to fully comprehend what all the fuss is about.
Some men are not too smart, maybe he's one of them. He appears to be both ungrateful and arrogant. I'm surprised he even managed to get involved with something like Wikipedia when he clearly lacks vision. 'Need help and guidance'. Would it be too much to ask to ask him to read the whitepaper, the wiki entry and to educate himself? Jimmy Wales or not - bitcoin does not need Wikipedia to succeed. Mark my words, one day they will have Bitcoin as a donation option, because they simply can't ignore it anymore. An attitude like this towards people that wanna learn about bitcoin and are considering adopting it, is not very helpful to say the least.

|

Totally unpredictable which coin will skyrocket, if a coin skyrockets it will not be because of any fundamentals, it will be simply because some big pumpers and dumpers start pumping it with a lot of BTC, they got 150 + coins to choose from and they not gonna tell the public in advance which coin they going to pump until after they pre-pumped it.

There MUST be a more efficient way than brute-force. Of course a reverse hash function would be the golden ticket. More attainable might be some function to produce a smaller set to brute-force. Watch out Satoshi!... reverse hash is just nonsense, Ill hash a video file for you and give you the hash, then you have to reverse the hash to the original video file, there is no way this can be done.

not surprised at all, Warren Buffet never invested in any tech stocks because as he said he does not understand the technology and he only invests in things he does understand. you cant expect an old guy like him to understand bitcoin, considering he never understood anything else tech related.
and don't forget this guy also owns a bank, wells fargo, so he probably sees bitcoin as competition

Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: coins for the long haul
|
on: March 13, 2014, 10:18:36 PM
|
Really good question, to answer this you would need some reliable information about what coins are actually being used right now as a currency. In the lang haul a crypto currency can only survive if people actually hold them because they know they can buy real goods and services with them for the same price or cheaper then with FIAT.
As far as I know the only one that comes close to being a currency right now is bitcoin, but even bitcoin has got a long way to go to really become a currency that you can directly exchange for all the stuff you need in life. But to me it looks like it is getting there as big online retailers have started to accept bitcoin now.
I can't find any data to compare the success of cryptocurrencies in actual percentage of commercial transaction, so really I dont know, It is problematic that the fundamentals behind the crypto currencies are not know and people are just making guesses basically which one will succeed based on the opinion of peers, cool sounding names or memes etc.
Like here in this forum a lot of coins claim the coin is being used in commerce, some even set up webshops and some even set up illegal black market sites, but whether this is just an attempt to make it look like their currency is going somewhere in order to pump its value or the coin is really being used on some scale that counts is impossible for me to tell.

Finally something realistic here in the altcoin forum, especially the maybe part.
But this strategy could actually work, just buy every altcoin shortly before the block reward halves and one or 2 of them should go up in value even if others dont, think overall you should make a profit, if all other things stay equal especially demand, value should go up, but since all demand with these new coins comes from speculators hard to predict whether demand stays equal, so yeah maybe lol
