their last status update from 2 days ago says they have been tied up meetings lately. This stuff can take quite a bit of time

Exactly SlickTheNick! We're working hard on this every day. Our goal is to get this right, not rushed. We've already seen what happens when people rush into this. We're doing everything above board and as robust as it can get. It takes time, but it'll be worth it.

Hey Guys,

Paul from Buttercoin here.

We're working 16 hours a day on Buttercoin, but we've received so many emails asking us to build a real, working exchange, that part of what we're doing is meeting with banks and investors to figure out if it makes sense for us to do this. From the looks of it we're in a better position than most for building a trustable and solid exchange, so we might do it.

What this means for you: We're building open-source software, but we're also evaluating all the options for building an exchange that uses our software. We do both to improve the Bitcoin ecosystem. We welcome both people helping us and people working on competing projects! Bitcoin needs a strong ecosystem, and we can all work together on building it.

Hey sflicht,

One of the Lead Devs of Buttercoin here right now.

Right now we're actually finishing up some core code, and spending lots of time in meetings (so that we can legally build a reference exchange/hub). We appreciate the offer to help, but right now a lot of the work can't be parallelized just yet.

Sign up for http://buttercoin.launchrock.com/ so we can get in touch with you when we need help down the road. I can assure you we will! This is a huge effort!

Our goal really is to help stabilize the ecosystem. We want to make this work for everyone. We all win if Bitcoin wins!

I've written http://paulbohm.com/bitcoin-decentralization/ and been lurking (without account until ~1.5 months ago) on the forums way before the hype. I'd occasionally like to participate in some of the discussions.

So our guy gets called up to do an interview on a segment that looks like it was totally geared up to tear him a new asshole and declare to the world at large that BTC = Drugs.

He manages to divert 95% of the content away from that point, while slipping in the buzzwords to make Joe Public feel warm and fuzzy and all "Hey these BTC things don't sound so shifty at all", at the same time as explaining things in something other than a way that only a nerd would love, and you guys are complaining about it?

Really?

Really?

edit: This commentary brought to you by Tradehill referral code TH-R1507

personal opinion: best PR i've ever seen. tip of the hat to jgarzik!

That is masterful PR. Making the fear-mongers look silly is brilliant. Any viewer with half a brain will still get a hint of the great potential.

Agreed. It's exactly the right message.

Thanks Jgarzik!
