481  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHA]SHACoin - First pure Pos SHA256 based coin - New Version Released on: March 29, 2014, 04:15:51 AM
My wallet is staying syncd now it seems, block # 18949, and minting POS blocks like crazy.  None are confirmed yet but are incrementing confirmations.  101,328 coins in my stake balance.

Currently, I have 3 peers, but this number varies between 3 and 29 pretty frequently:
89.66.87.7
71.187.164.122
151.228.116.110

The transaction for the coins I purchased from CryptoAltEx appears orphaned, so I'm guessing they were (or maybe still are) definitely on the wrong chain (but who knows at this point)

I'm out for now - will leave this running overnight and see WTF is up in the morning
482  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHA]SHACoin - First pure Pos SHA256 based coin - New Version Released on: March 29, 2014, 03:39:28 AM
I think the biggest problem is that the POS minting process is happening WAY too fast.  When I start generating stake, it's like 5 or 6 blocks per minute.  Imagine 1,000 others doing the same thing - many with wallets much bigger than mine.  I think it's causing synchronization issues due to the massive number of new POS blocks being minted each minute.

Stake is supposed to be what, 30% per year?  I'm getting about 50 coins per minute right now, in chunks of 7-9 coins per block.  19,935 coins in my stake balance.
483  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHA]SHACoin - First pure Pos SHA256 based coin - New Version Released on: March 29, 2014, 03:32:59 AM
My wallet starts going wackadoodle every time I enable mining. I end up having to delete everything and repairwallet. Then when i think it is all ok I enable mining and it starts finding blocks very fast.
idk, but the netwok is working fine, and thats all i really care about that i can send coins and its working Smiley

I dont know how you can say the network is fine when a large number of people are having problems with client sync, no minting, and block height not matching the explorer.  This is basically a Blackcoin clone and I cant recall Blackcoin having any of these problems.

I have Mint coin and I get staked coins all of the time but as soon as this coin went to stake my wallet will not download any more blocks from the block chain. It shows in the debug log that there are more blocks to download but it just says Misbehaving and DISCONNECTING

Info from debug log

I removed the addnodes 198.100.127.34 and 198.100.127.36 from my conf file, so far everything looks good.  My previously earned POS is confirming, and my coins purchased from CryptoAltEx are in my balance.

My wallet isn't completely done syncing yet, but I'm thinking these may be BAD NODES

I will post my peers list (29 connections right now) if my wallet completes the sync

484  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SHA]SHACoin - First pure Pos SHA256 based coin - New Version Released on: March 29, 2014, 03:24:44 AM
This coin is so pharked

I mined around 184,000 during POW, and purchased 235,000 from CryptoAltEx shortly after POW ended.

I staked all my mined coins, started receiving POS blocks (er, POF as the wallet says) and seemed to be working OK, then the wallet got stuck around block 15xxx.  Never did receive coins from CryptoAltEx.

Updated wallet, deleted blockchain & resync, coins from CryptoAltEx showed up, and most of my POS blocks started confirming.  Then, wallet stuck again.

Started reading here, added new nodes 198.100.127.36 and .34 posted by someone (sorry can't remember who), deleted and resync'd again.  All my POS blocks are orphaned, and it appears the transaction for the coins I purchased from CryptoAltEx appears orphaned as well.

if 198.100.127.34 and .36 are on the correct chain (who knows at this point), then CryptoAltEx is definitely on the fork.

So much fail.

New PirateCoin permanent node added:

addnode=98.174.25.28

Can you explain to me how to create a node for the network? Is it just a matter of having a machine dedicated to always being up with the wallet open and then using that IP as a node?

I'm wondering the same thing. I think if thats all it takes is a machine with a wallet on it that is on the correect blockchain the best way to have a dedicated node that is connected all the time is to have a Raspberry Pi machine with a wallet as a node. Rasp Pi's have a low foot print and power consumption to run a wallet. I would be up for dedicating a Rasp Pi as a node. I don't have the programming skills or the compilation skills to build a wallet for a Pi.

My other concern is people have shared 2 nodes at the moment. I have added these to my conf file and still nothing. My wallet does not sync. Have I properly created my conf file? I think I have. I was successful in creating another .conf file for another faultering coin wallet I have, but then again, I'm not a crypto wizard so I do have my doubts. I had to create my pirate.conf and I'm wondering if I named it correctly for the wallet to see the file. I created my conf file in my Appdata Piratecoin folder and deleted everything except my .dat file. Another concern of mine is the two nodes that have been shared- is there a way to verify these nodes and is there such a thing as a bad node. Can a bad node allow someone to hack my wallet, pc, or other crytpo wallets.

Along with having permanent nodes is to have enough hashing power to prevent a 51% attack. I def do not have this ability. And I don't think relying on pools is enough to prevent this.

Why change the name of the coin. Changing the name for anything other than legal reasons is rediculous. I think if the Pirate Political Party adopts the coin it would be a move in the right direction. Regardless of how altruistic the party is or isn't. The party just needs a media spin doctor to promote their cause in a positive direction.

Sounds like you have the conf file in the proper directory (%appdata%\Piratecoin) but the file must be named PirateCoin.conf for the wallet to read it.

No worry about bad nodes being able to hack your wallet.  The only way a node can go "bad" is if there is a fork in the blockchain, and the node ends up syncing up to the wrong blockchain.  There is no possibility of other nodes being able to hack your PC, steal your coins or anything like that.

Your worries about a 51% attack are valid, until the net hashrate comes up significantly this is a real possibility.  However, it requires some specialized skills to implement, not very many people know how to successfully do this.  There's really no reason to do it unless there is significant profit to be made, and I'm pretty sure the people with those skills would probably rather spend their time elsewhere, than a coin only listed on 1 crappy exchange with about $15 per day of trading volume. Cool
486  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][PIR] ---- PirateCoin | Exchange listed ---- Arrr! on: March 28, 2014, 03:52:12 PM
We need to be on some exchange ?
So let's make a list
Polo
Mintpal
Crypsy
coindup
bter.
Go Go . Grin

Up until a few days ago I would have suggested CryptoRush - the BTC required to get to the top of their voting list is significantly lower than most other exchanges.  However, after the events transpiring there the last few days . . . no thanks.  I don't think they will be around much longer.

CoinedUp would be great, they simply pull highest voted coins from their reddit I think.

Cryptsy, Mintpal would also be fantastic but unfortunately it takes quite a bit of support (and BTC) to get listed there.

For now, I say we concentrate on Poloniex and CoinedUp, but we really should wait until I get the wallet updated to show the new symbol ARR.  I'm pretty confident I can have this ready over the weekend.

It's basically the same as setting up a wallet for solo-mining, except you have to setup port forwarding/NAT so your firewall is allowing incoming connections to whatever P2P port the wallet is running, and you publish your router's external IP address as the node's IP.

Not the same as the rpcport used for mining - the p2p port is usually one number higher or lower.
488  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] AIRcoin on: March 28, 2014, 01:58:56 PM
You can already tell someone has figured out the mining game of this coin. One day the net hash is over 200Mhz. The next day it's sub 100Mhz and taking up to five minutes for a block to show.

I always wondered if low retarget time could fix that problem. Something around five minutes to retarget difficulty. Multipools might still try to jump in every five minutes but at least they won't be screwing over the dedicated miners so much.

I also think that ASICs are not as bad as most people think them to be. It's almost like a group of people have created a stigma about ASICs being bad to save their own interest. Kind of like how in the 1950s people that had a lot to lose for pot being legal went into great lengths to spread false negative information of it's use. They even made a movie called Reefer Madness that depict pot smokers going wild crazy and running around like maniacs committing unsightly things. Will ASICs destroy the using of GPUs to mine? Not all of them, but I do find it strange the people that outcry the most are the ones that have the mining market cornered with their expensive mining rigs.

It's kindof a known issue with KGW, I have dealt with this on other coins as well.  KGW really only works on coins that already have a pretty big network hashrate, it does not do well with coins where the "normal" net hash is only 100-500MH.  It ramps up the diff pretty well when the hashrate increases rapidly, but does not bring it back down fast enough.

One more thing... when you type in arrcoin.com you get an error that says, "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)"
But when you type www.arrcoin.com it takes you to the site just fine.

Do you know any way to fix that?

Also, under "Social" on the website, could you link to the Facebook page and the Subreddit?

https://www.facebook.com/PiratecoinPIR
http://www.reddit.com/r/Piratecoincrypto/

Thanks

Fixed the arrcoin.com/www.arrcoin.com issue, sorry I just neglected to add that extra host header.  Both should be working now!

LOOKS like another... no sync wallet... shit coin. NODES anyone???

Sorry there appears to be only one at the moment - will setup another permanent node soon

Sounds like another typical "coin dev."

Step 1:  Download <insertname>coin source code from GitHub
Step 2:  Change some parameters, update qt interface
Step 3:  Post on BCT and distribute coin
Step 4:  Pray nothing breaks and actually requires real programming skill to fix, because you don't know WTF you're doing

Mortimer, thank you for this important update. Is network hashrate located on the same page as pool hashrate?

You must create an account and login to view the net hashrate, it is on the Dashboard page.

Don't forget to vote for us on CryptoRush too:

Ugh, CryptoRush needs to die in my opinion.  Don't trust them anymore.

What is the current total network hash showing by the way?

Diff just changed last block:

Network Info
Difficulty                         1,983,788.34180140
Est Next Difficulty                 4,901,363.20725510 (Change in 1 Blocks)
Est. Avg. Time per Block     1 minutes 33 seconds
Current Block                 480

Diff too high for me - I'm back to BTC

Well, this was an interesting ride. My first launch Tongue

Hardcored totally failed for me. I was getting nothing but rejects. Dammit, I like you guys. Prolly gonna try again in a few minutes. It took a WHILE to connect to anybody else. You guys might try lightninghash if you got a big rig, they are running real smooth but got NO hashpower. Like 12 plus hours estimated to find a block. Can't play that with my little rig, so I wound up (for now) at Hashing.at, which after 15 minutes is showing the same or close too it as cgminer on my stats.

So, you veterans, is it normal for most of the pools to be dead ten to fifteen minutes into a launch? Or just my usual luck?

Pretty typical actually.  Out of 10 pools that say they'll be ready at launch, usually only a couple actually are.  It's a crap shot which ones will be ready and which will be dead, so it's best to pre-register at a couple.

My pool should have been ready within about 60 seconds of releasing the password but the windows wallet had problems - had to compile the linux wallet and run that instead.  By that time, hasher.at already had the entire network, and he probably will for a long time.

http://bns.pitythepool.com is pretty lonely, but unique in the fact that it's the only place you can get the real total network hash and est. next difficulty - which, btw, should be around 2,400,000  Shocked

Devs, you sure this coin is not using the original BTC diff algo?  Sure looks like it.  Diff never goes up by any more than 400% at each interval, it should be going up MUCH faster at the rate the network is going.

499  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★[PRE-ANN] BonusCoin (BNS) 2 Exchanges|Bonuses|Early Miner Bonus|Bounties|SHA256 on: March 27, 2014, 03:14:07 AM
Does not work on the Windows wallet either.  Also, the QT does not read the rpclisten option in the conf file, so it only listens on 127.0.0.1.

And it does not report the networkhashps with getmininginfo() so it's impossible to see the net hashrate, although I fixed this in the source on my pool so you can see net hashrate and est. next difficulty.

Try out http://bns.pitythepool.com

These should be working but we'll check it out. Both datadir and rpclisten.

While you're at it fix the getmininginfo() sub in rpcmining.cpp so it returns networkhashps - pool stats (MPOS) require this to show net hashrate and est. next difficulty

Does the OS X wallet support the -datadir  option like most wallets?  I normally use a custom folder location and I can't get the wallet to use it.

It looks like it should:

https://github.com/bonuscoin/bonuscoin/blob/5cb79701f833344ba397ee4877c532ade143a00f/src/init.cpp

Does not work on the Windows wallet either.  Also, the QT does not read the rpclisten option in the conf file, so it only listens on 127.0.0.1.
