21  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: First Day on: June 09, 2011, 11:23:57 AM
Thanks for the reply! This does seem like a good system, i hope it continues to grow and grow.

So my numbers are ok then? What is a realistic income with 500Mhash/s? The calculator says $24 a day, but realistically i doubt it would be anything close to that, would it?

why shouldn't it be realistic, i'm mining with 1.4 gigahashes pooled and last 24 hours i earned about 2.35 bitcoin, thats 73 dollars at actual rate of 31 dollars per BTC - devided by 3 it would be 24 dollars a day, so i dont see how it's NOT realistic.
22  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining pools and bruteforce on: June 09, 2011, 09:39:19 AM
why are there so many conspiracy-theories going on with pooled mining....oh no, deepbit is getting too big and he will unleash mighty cthulhu to destroy us all....cmon guys seriously, i know you shouldn't trust everyone on the internet but this whole "pools are dangerous" thing is way overrated.
23  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Can a video card start to "smoke"??? on: June 09, 2011, 09:36:23 AM
well the only thing i ever really turned into smoke was a PSU, i hardly think it's possible to turn the video card into smoke, just for the lulz i clocked my 5970s WAY TOO HIGH and the only thing that happened was that at about 105°C the computer shut down to prevent itself from harm. maybe there wars dirt or smthn on your card/bord/cpu ?
24  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Stabiele Preise on: June 09, 2011, 09:21:55 AM

25  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: A quite general question. on: June 08, 2011, 10:52:09 PM
thank you, now i got it, but its not yet confirmed, but i guess that will happen soon Cheesy
26  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: A quite general question. on: June 08, 2011, 10:47:00 PM
so let me get it straigt, i have three computers, A B and a mining station: the bitcoin client (my wallet) is on computer A, this computer was not turned on during the transaction, so if i turn it on now and let it load i should still get my coin after some time of wating?
27  Bitcoin / Mining / A quite general question. on: June 08, 2011, 10:42:47 PM
So I started pooled mining today, set auto payout to 1BTC and when it was reached it just vanished and did not appear in my wallet.
does the wallet have to be on the mining station, or can you just have it on another computer?
28  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 5970 Black Edition VERY HOT on: June 08, 2011, 11:36:44 AM
but wouldn`t lowering the voltage also lower the hashes, cuz that is not what i want, cuz mining is of course still profitable but with energy prices THAT high, i mean i dont know what you pay in the US or elsewhere but here in germany energy prices are SERIOUS business....
29  Bitcoin / Mining / 5970 Black Edition VERY HOT on: June 08, 2011, 09:56:10 AM
So I set up my rig yesterday, set everything up and started mining right away.
one thing i immediately noticed in the ati afterburner tool, was that my GPU temperature is very high, atm i run the card with

cpu clock: 875 mhz
memclock: 1300 mhz

and the temperature after 10 hours of straight mining is at a constant 93 degrees celsius, but even without overclocking the temperature is at 88 degrees celsius.

my question: is that too hot, i mean 88 degrees withou OC sound high to me.

side note: atm i'm pulling 828 megahashes, thats more than the hardware comparison told me.
30  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Mining CPu needed with GPU? bottleneck? on: June 08, 2011, 09:45:10 AM
just buy a very cheap dual core cpu like i did, bought the cheapest amd athlon dualcore available for like 40 euros and it does not feel like a bottle neck for me.
31  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Just bought hardware for my first rig - did I fail ? on: June 07, 2011, 01:19:18 PM
whoever is telling you that the "bitcoin bubble is going burst" is absolutely crazy.

things are likely to even out and not grow as fast as they have been growing but nothing is going to burst any time soon.

I say to anyone only to sell your coins if you need the money, this is an investment and the longer you can hold onto them the better

bitcoin is the future of digital currency and I believe this completely.

So you invested in some hardware. a 5970 is a great card, it will probably mint you at least 1.5 btc per day
also if you ever decide to get out of mining or the difficulty gets too hard or whatever you can always sell your hardware
mining hardware is also gaming hardware and its always going to hold its value pretty decently.

THIS is what i thought when i purchased my hardware at all, its a nobrainer, even if i would not earn one single dollar with all of my efforts i still got AWESOME new hardware i needed anyway, the only thing i would have wasted is a little bit of money for electricity, but that really does not matter, despite the fact that its about three times more expensive here in germany than it is in the us so for one mining rig with dual 5970s you gotta calculate about 140 dollars electricity or so, but if i make 1,5btc per day (was also my calculation btw) and sell thos 45 coins at the current price of 19 dollars each it would be still a huge profit. anyway, my workday is over now, gotta get home and get the rig runnin'.

thanks for all you guys who answered my post, great, active and helpful community.
see ya guys, i'll stick around.

i decided to buy ONE HD 5970 and maybe a second one later if this project turns out to be success....

That's an economically illogical decision.

If you add a second card months down the road, difficulty level will be already in the millions. And your benefit from then having double the hash power of today will be negligible at best if price of BTC doesn't keep up. (making 0.04 bitcoin per day instead of 0.02 wont mean much)

The only thing that makes sense is putting up as much mhash/s as possible this minute.

deep inside i know you are right but as i have not seen a single dollar profit on my bank account yet i hesitate to spend more....probably i will sell my first bitcoins asap ( will do pooled mining btw) and buy another card then. so that might be within a week or so. and would you really say it's getting less profitable? a 30% dificulty increase and a 100% price increase, doesn't sound too bad for me.
33  Bitcoin / Mining / Just bought hardware for my first rig - did I fail ? on: June 07, 2011, 11:13:01 AM
well, so i recently purchased hardware to build my first rig, i know it's a little late and i hear a lot of people talk about the bitcoin bubble bursting soon etc. but I really did not invest that much money so basically I know it's a gamble but i don'r care.
anyways, cuz i'm not a complete dumbass i took a look at

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Mining_hardware_comparison

before purchasing anything and after a little bit of thinking i decided to buy ONE HD 5970 and maybe a second one later if this project turns out to be success....

my question is: was that the wrong card to buy, i mean all i see in the forum is ppl talking about their 6990 (or dual 6990) miners, whereas the 5970 is way cheaper and, according to the chart, will get
approx. the same megahashes/s.

so tell me, did I fail, didn't I fail, and if a wanna buy a second video card should i buy another 5970 or a 6990.

sorry for my crappy english, it's not my first language but hopefully you can still understand me.

http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/instance-types/

unter dem punkt cluster gpu instance.

allerdings hab ich keine ahnung, was das kostet oder ob der betreffende service wirklich schon live ist.
