However you're probably not trying to be elitist about it at all and just confusing minimalistic design with lack of forethought on design. The drupal theme is indeed minimalistic, and with some corrections, could be called plain as well

Derp. I'm a pro designer + cg artist. I'm not confusing anything. Get off yer high horse.

I know plenty about design.

We don't need tons of glamour. That just makes Bitcoin look like a scammy company with something to hide. Bitcoin is what it is.

I say go for that plain and simple design IMO.

We are trying to emphasise a few simple points when describing Bitcoin and why it's better. The design should reflect that.

1542  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin.org Redesign (mockups inside) on: March 19, 2011, 01:38:27 AM
open source projects don't need snazzy websites that look cool. They need plain minimal sites without ads that are quick to the point.

free software says: "we are so cool that we don't need to win you over like a business. Here's the facts. Make up your own mind"
1543  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bounty for Wikipedia translations for the Bitcoin article on: March 18, 2011, 11:38:14 PM
I guess the prize should be according to the number of speakers of the language. I would pledge 0.5 btc for the fund.

Impossible to quantify. I propose instead doing it by the number of Wikipedia articles in that language (Wikipedia stats page shows this).
1544  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin.org Redesign (mockups inside) on: March 18, 2011, 09:17:04 PM
Why not go with this exact design?

(Change the bitcoin icon to the new one though)

It's much simple & nice.
1545  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin.org Redesign (mockups inside) on: March 18, 2011, 07:36:51 PM

Hard to correct the colours though since I don't have the original svg
1546  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Bitcoin.org Redesign (mockups inside) on: March 18, 2011, 07:22:05 PM
Nice. But that blue is far too garish and attracting for negative space. I suggest you use rare hues for the background. Also tone down the detail on those squares.

Could you mix it up with some green (green tinted with yellow) to make it a little more intriguing.  The blue/grey makes it look bland/corporate.

Also for the 3 download buttons, let's replace it by one button (detected by the browser user-agent OS) right-adjusted like how google does with google-chrome. Underneath is a link "See other downloads".

The Linux or Windows link should then expand the bar to show the 2 options as radio buttons (with the default selected) and then you can click 'Download'.

Just some suggestions. I like it overall.

If you like the idea then show it by spending your bitcoins on them. There has to be some bitcoins available for them to win. ATM it seems everyone's being really stingy.

At PiXXXeL we focus on free and open source software practices, 360
degrees! and with direct participations of developers and pioneers
living around or, as in this case, passing by the city of Amsterdam.

More precisely you'll find us in Keizersgracht 264 at http://nimk.nl

This mail announces our 3rd appointment of a regular series we are
organizing during 2011 and this time we'll focus on... MONEY Smiley
an old media that needs a bit of an update - so free software
developers are busy on it and there is some interesting running code
to look at.

Bitcoin is a digital currency created in 2009, whose use online has
grown during 2010 and is booming just as we are talking.

     http://pixxxel.net/bitcoin-digital-currency

We'll have a presentation of this technology by an experienced nomadic
developer and bitcoin expert: Genjix - who is also a developer of free
software solutions based on Blender and Crystal Space.

Then we'll proceed with a Q&A session and a critical overview of the
limits and, arguably, things that can be made better in Bitcoin, as
well things that go wrong.

You are all invited to be with us and brainstorm openly, but please
register your presence with a mail to ilse@nimk.nl so that we can be
sure we'll accommodate everyone at NIMk.

You need to tell people your prices. Like 1 hour for 1 BTC .etc

You need to tell people how you chat. On QQ? On email? Skype?

you are right .it's an kind of chinese joke.we called it "cold‘ jokes. Most of time ,you can't understand them immediately.but when you get it,you will brust to laugh.it's chinese humor.

Here's how I would write English:

And even that's wrong. But thank you for playing. Do not correct foreigners grammar with equally bad grammar yourself; it's destructive.

Security risk as in if a bug is found, and they're not updated with a fix (how?)
1554  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Convert to Standard Currency fees too high, could affect adoption? on: March 18, 2011, 11:11:58 AM
Australia needs a market maker. Untill then we are stuck paying paypal fees.

The other issue is that currency conversion is required either to USD or Euro.

It also doesnt help when paypal shuts down one of your main sources of buying bitcoins.

Here's the source code,

Everything's free.

Go nuts.
