I think you will see some currencies do well when main stream people know how to buy and invest. The dream is to get rich and this will drive value of certain coins. That is quite some time off. So your investment may take 5 years or more to really yield on high risk alt coins.

Currency is a funny thing. Look at what happened to really currencies. In Europe you had many, now the Euro has taken most of them away. Look at real world lessons. Saying that, the internets is pretty wacky.

It is pretty hard to say if a coin will be successful. Do you research and by cheap coins if you are worried. If you are going to mine then mine a variety of coins and play it safe.
