So what is the best way to encrypt your SEED from electrum?

So that you can back it up.

The articles say viruses reside in the FIRMWARE of the USB (stick, mouse, keyboard, etc)  
None mention SD cards.

is BIP38 encyption better than GPG symmetric encryption?? How is it different?

Sorry, i misused the term "mixing" in the title.
Yes, i understand sending to new addresses is not "mixing."

However, Sending coins to new addresses DOES give "plausible deniability of ownership", so maybe "privacy" was the wrong term? Is there a better term to use?


My question is: Is it possible for an outsider to tell the difference if you sent coins to a new wallet --- or within your wallet?
Or does it look EXACTLY the same?

i remember reading that, even if u use CoinControl, there was some obvious "evidence" left behind when coins are sent intra-wallet (one wallet) vs inter-wallet (multiple wallets)? What is that technical "evidence"? link please

I thought electrum uses a fresh deterministic address for all change?  You're saying if u spend half of an imported privkey, then the change MAY go back into the same privkey? i thought that was a privacy no-no that only mobile wallets make the mistake of doing.

So then what is the best way to "sweep" a private key into electrum?
You have to spend the whole amount or nothing?? (to prevent the possible reuse of addresses)
(i was thinking of testing with a small amount first)

For importing private key- Is the best way to import it, and then just spend it to one of your existing addresses? Even if u spend half the coin, the other half just goes to a change address in the same wallet right?

I never understood the big deal about "sweeping" privkeys.  Isn't my way just as secure?

You can do the same in Armory right?
I guess i would rather trust myself manually spending it & seeing the transaction, than adding another hidden "sweep" step to the process?  What is better about "sweeping" in armory, than just spending it to urself?

How do you see transactions/balances in the cold wallet?
There is an option to EXPORT history, but how do u IMPORT history?

I even copied the whole "electrum_data" folder over to the cold wallet, and the history/balances still didnt show up.

I thought the situation was similar to deterministic SEEDs?

Remember, when deterministic seeds first came out, people didn't completely trust the seeding algorithm, but nowadays, almost everyone blindy trusts SEEDS. right?

Won't there be a point where almost everyone trusts SPV?
What technically is needed for that to happen?

One of the reasons i heard is that it has deterministic wallets with 160 bit seed, vs 256bit seeds in armory.
But armory is switching to 160bit, soon anyway (bip32 i think).
They say that 160bit, is big enough to make seed collisions "impossible" enough.

What other reason is Electrum less secure than armory, for storing/spending 10,000 btc?

Possibly the seed algorithm is less secure? Perhaps there are other technical shortcuts, because electrum was focused on ease of use and not security?

Is it because armory dev is more "trustworthy" than electrum dev?

I know many bitcoiners only trust gavin, and still only use the satoshi client (though fewer nowadays, because armory/electrum have built reputation).

Is it a different path because it is encrypted?

"lsblk" command shows the drives, but is there another, similar command that would help?

They both have deterministic offline wallets, from "trusted" devs.

Electrum is easier to use, but if it is not 100% safe, then i will quit using it.
Would you store 1,000+ btc in Electrum?

Can you run multiple wallet windows safely? Or is one at a time better? why?

People say armory is better because multiple wallets.
Isn't it really easy to run multiple wallets on Electrum?

Basically, i'm looking to run Bitcoin Armory, and Litecoin on TailsDVD, with an LUKS encrypted SD card for persistence.
Right now, i'm practicing in xubuntu.
so how do i type in the "datadir" command in xubuntu?
First, i type "lsblk" to see the drives.
it lists my SD as:

sr0
/media/xub
mmcblk0
  mmcblk0p1
    luks-8928212337-8b5h-42h7-vg2f-f4e429jdn2k22(dm-1)
/media/xub

i tried this and it doesnt work:
./bitcoin-qt -datadir=/media/xub

Eventually, i want to run Armory on TailsDVD, but i gotta figure out the basics first...

Solution?
1) How can you strictly use only ".onion" servers?
2) Can you use multiple .onion servers simultaneously? By default, you can only enter one in the box.
3) Can you disable the "normal" servers somehow?
