1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] The Information Assurance Platform [IAP]. Blockchain for Cybersecurity. on: October 25, 2019, 06:32:36 AM
Hello everyone,

The IAP Network, through its ecosystem of digital trust, has developed a system where information can be verified and trust is assured through a blockchain-based system. Having a set of tools where evidence can be provided to verify the validity of information is something no other platform has been able to offer. In a recent post on Medium, we talk about why a decentralised platform focusing on trusted information is important for society: Why A Fully Decentralised Platform Dedicated To Trusted Information Is Of Vital Importance To Society.

4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Bitcoin Core: Network settings tab options on: March 16, 2018, 11:06:23 AM
Hi,

I want Bitcoin Core to connect to Internet through TOR network.

I have some options in network settings tab:

1) Map port using UPnP
2) Allow incoming connections

[..]

Also, i want to ask you about 1st and 2nd option. For what purpose they are?

Do i need to disable incoming connections for maximum security?

Thank you so much!

To answer the remaining question, (1) allows your client to talk to your network device(s) such as gateway router/modem on how to clear a path for the data (identify one another and agree on connection settings like ports) without you having to manually configure them.

(2) Allows your node to support the network fully by allowing other nodes to initiate connections to it.

To verify the smart contract address you can check with the company or creator themselves, they should have some authoritative confirmation of the address. Most likely, if you have tokens already, you can check where you sent the original transaction to and if it matches. Various third parties like ethscan also provide community feedback on addresses, and often scammers addresses will have relevant feedback. Best to check in multiple ways that the contract you believe it to be is what it is rather than rely on just one confirmation from one source.

Good fundamental question; here is some more detail about UTXOs:

7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: how to create your own token on: March 16, 2018, 07:22:16 AM
There are several different standards but if you want to create your own then this will probably involve creating your own standard, too. That can be interesting, and the best advice I think is to hire an experienced programmer who has worked with some variety of the existing token standards and alternative coins around (and preferably, with bitcoin itself too).

What you really want is to have a reason (or list of reasons) why you need to create a new standard, or why existing standards which are more compatible with many things do not service your purposes. Exploring this with a someone experienced will definitely help you. Good luck.
8  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: bitcoin qt wallet on: March 16, 2018, 07:15:31 AM
I'm planning to run btc qt wallet and bitcoin abc's core wallet on the same PC. To avoid the 2 wallets meddling with each other, is it sufficient by defining different -datadir and -port options? Any other switches I should specify?

I've had the same problem, if you change the datadir it should be sufficient, also you can monitor the resource usage of both.
