Already 94 bitpay nodes!!
https://www.reddit.com/r/btc/comments/3zzkqg/bitpay_core_v1299_already_at_94_nodes_and_counting/

So now, we have 570 bitcoin XT nodes, 120 Bitcoin Unlimited nodes, 94 bitpay nodes and 5000 bitcoin core nodes. Great.

WTF is a bitpay node? Has bitpay started up its own version of the Bitcoin wallet? What's the differences between bitcoin XT nodes, Bitcoin Unlimited nodes, bitpay nodes, and bitcoin core nodes?

I know XT wants massive blocks if enough people use it, but I don't know what the other two contender wallets want.

I think brg444 said something about them wanting to destroy the world with their multiculturalist marxist agenda. And kill all the firstborn.

Everybody wants to stay on top of the world's hall of fame... Roll Eyes

182  Economy / Economics / Re: Martin Armstrong Discussion on: January 08, 2016, 10:22:18 AM
I find it pretty interesting that M. Armstrong has included a new title for the upcoming decade in his Economic Confidence Model. Constant re-fracturing of the global economy by a series of events (oil prices, stock market crashes, production halt, bad economic data, sovereign debt) may gave him a hint about the Internet's (and Bitcoin?) role in the upcoming years.

The article focuses on the Maunder Minimum and global cooling theory, but look above on the right of the chart... Am I the only one who didn't notice so far or this is a new tag? Roll Eyes

China "success" story has been developed for quite a few months now. It would be churlish to give away what happens next, but it’s clear that we're heading for glory within the cryptoland.... Roll Eyes

The price has been very steady for a while now, a little too steady.

This usually means we're not too far away from a violent swing in price action.

185  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stocks dropping like its hot on: January 04, 2016, 04:06:49 PM
China currently has a walnut bubble selling $32,000 "symmetrical walnuts" and $500,000 "racing pigeons".  Contrary to what noobs on the forum say, China hasn't even come close to initiating a Bitcoin bubble compared to all their other insane bubbles.  If China actually does get involved in Bitcoin, it's going very high because they will literally pump pocket lint.

I concur. Most of the fuss may be coming from foreign players partly because of 0-fee transactions. Nevertheless, there's a strong indication that BTC is forming a vessel of transferring CNY wealth to other places in the Globe after the money-transmitter raid in China a couple of weeks ago...
186  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stocks dropping like its hot on: January 04, 2016, 01:05:42 PM
IMHO, the worst part is why this has happened. Random (heavy) drops like this have only one meaning: "Insiders liquidating because of hidden info". I wouldn't just jump in and say what I think about BTC price; usually, it takes a couple of days for the people to look around after the turmoil. Maybe Martin Armstrong got it right all the way and it was just about to happen. Who knows.

Food for thought: Acquiring XMR at the moment (unless you have a complex netbot at your disposal) is quite hard to get on hold to WITHOUT being identified. This is because at almost every case an exchange is the intermediate. So, in essence, you lack of true anonymity. Granted, if you make a transaction you achieve "true" anonymity, but you cannot undo your involvement that certifies that you were -at least- once involved with hidden wealth.

I've posted my musings on this quite a lot of times. I've also proposed a nice way to integrate anonymity within your client. Take a look here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg9387810#msg9387810

If you have the time, it's a nice read (be sure to read some posts back as well).

how to Use

GPU MINING [ currently GPU not available showing ]

You must have an Nvidia (for Cryptonote mining) GPU for it to be enabled.

[...] It just is part of being a freedom fighter. [...]

If you've ever had the chance to watch the movie "God Loves Caviar" you'd certainly remember, that one of the last musings of the narrator about the acts of Capitan Varvakis, was that "He was the most dangerous person on Earth because he dared to dream; that alone made him free". We Greeks, tend to give presents to each other every New Year's Eve. The best ones I've ever received were not expensive, but also, it was impossible for someone to buy them. As an act of goodwill from me to all of you, I offer you this gift. It lasts 15 minutes and it's a speech from Yannis Smaragdis (the director of the aforementioned movie). The speech is in Greek, but it has CC from YoutTube and it has an excellent translation.

Enjoy a prosperous 2016!

I will stop participating in this very beautiful trollfest... err.. brainstorming with an old video with R. Feynman answering a "naive" question by a reporter. It's called "Magnets" or "The Why" questions. I seriously hope you understand what Richard says -in his own unique way- and ultimately *get* the essence of it all; ie: that for two people to have a conversation at a certain level, then those people should agree that they have a "basis" where they both agree to start from. Or if you prefer, "speak the same language".

Hope you'll enjoy it.

Have a nice New Year's Eve.

It's because of a phenomenon called Apparent Magnitude (ie: the brightness that a celestial body presents when observed from Earth). There's a set of calculations that determine how "bright" a planet seems, you might want to take a look there.
193  Economy / Speculation / Re: rpietila Wall Observer - the Quality TA Thread ;) on: December 29, 2015, 06:43:24 PM
what is deceiving mostly is the title of this thread.

I beg to differ. Depends on what "TA" means. It could very well mean "Trolling Anaphorically" which gratifies the title of the "Quality" in front of the abbreviation. Roll Eyes

There's no distinction of truth or lie when it comes to a theory. There's only experimental proof. For instance, there's a strong possibility both earth curvature and flat earth theories be absolutely true (some complex mathematics, parabolic geometry and a unified gravitational field within a 5th dimension point could justify that both are -at the same time- right). Nevertheless, as I posted above (about my extraordinary claim of us populating a Dyson Sphere) there's lack of extraordinary evidence...

Pity. I could use the money from a Nobel prize to buy more coinz  Grin

A well-known scientist (some say it was Bertrand Russell) once gave a public lecture on astronomy. He described how the earth orbits around the sun and how the sun, in turn, orbits around the center of a vast collection of stars called our galaxy. At the end of the lecture, a little old lady at the back of the room got up and said: "What you have told us is rubbish. The world is really a flat plate supported on the back of a giant tortoise." The scientist gave a superior smile before replying, "What is the tortoise standing on?" "You're very clever, young man, very clever," said the old lady. "But it's turtles all the way down!"

Maybe Hyena got it right, and all the rest of us are too dumb to understand it... who knows? Roll Eyes

I can't tell anymore whether you guys are kidding, serious, or trolling.  Huh

That would be 50-50... Smiley

Or 33-33-33???

Nah, kidding/trolling = 50, serious another 50.  Grin

I don't believe in a magma filled ball Earth theory either. It simply has too many holes in it. When was the last time Copernicus'es model was proven with a physics experiment?

Every day I do research, in fact. I am an astrophysicist, and in my area of research we regularly have to exactly model the positions of all solar system bodies.

Let me tell you something about science: we do not all conspire together. In fact, science is a free for all. We are all (underpaid) competitors, dying to make a name for ourselves. If someone can show that the entire scientific consensus is wrong, such a person would gain eternal fame. The thing is, you have to do it convincingly. Most people who think they have overthrown the entire scientific consensus, and who are subsequently being ignored, usually just have not shown what they are conjecturing (and usually they are, indeed, wrong). If you think we would all conspire together, you are completely misunderstanding how this world works.

The sad, bare, truth in a few sentences.

@Risto: (and others)

I guess you're talking about the flat earth theory and the pole stars conundrum (1). A long story short, physically, cannot happen. Northern Star is NOT visible from the South Hemisphere. Concerning light-curvature eidolon, a phenomenon broadly known as gravitational lens (2) that happens due to a planet's gravity; unfortunately, our home planet is not "heavy" enough to make such a phenomenon visible.

There's only one possible case which the aforementioned hypothesis could stand right; this is the hypothesis we're living on a Dyson Sphere (3). In this case we are populating a megastructure that was built by an ancient civilization over a sun-like (smaller scale) dwarf planet that manages to get all its produced energy to sustain life on its horizon.

(Artist's concept of a Dyson Sphere)

Under these circumstances, the megastructure could be evolved by the boundless amount of energy that the enclosed star produced in an unpredictable scale, programmed in such a way able to sustain life and even produce an energy field that protects the outer Dyson layer from external meteor falls (up to a logical scale). All the above is just a theory, of course, and as the late Carl Sagan said: "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence".  Roll Eyes
