484  Economy / Services / Re: [BOUNTY] 200 US$ in BTC - Let us together reverse engineer SHA256 on: February 11, 2014, 10:59:25 PM
Best answer by Thomas Pornin in StackOverflow answered Oct 25 '10 at 12:14 and I agree 100%

The usual answer goes thus: what is the probability that a rogue asteroid crashes on Earth within the next second, obliterating civilization-as-we-know-it, and killing off a few billion people ? It can be argued that any unlucky event with a probability lower than that is not actually very important.

If we have a "perfect" hash function with output size n, and we have p messages to hash (individual message length is not important), then probability of collision is about p2/2n+1 (this is an approximation which is valid for "small" p, i.e. substantially smaller than 2n/2). For instance, with SHA-256 (n=256) and one billion messages (p=109) then the probability is about 4.3*10-60.

A mass-murderer space rock happens about once every 30 million years on average. This leads to a probability of such an event occurring in the next second to about 10-15. That's 45 orders of magnitude more probable than the SHA-256 collision. Briefly stated, if you find SHA-256 collisions scary then your priorities are wrong.

In a security setup, where an attacker gets to choose the messages which will be hashed, then the attacker may use substantially more than a billion messages; however, you will find that the attacker's success probability will still be vanishingly small. That's the whole point of using a hash function with a 256-bit output: so that risks of collision can be neglected.

Of course, all of the above assumes that SHA-256 is a "perfect" hash function, which is far from being proven. Still, SHA-256 seems quite robust.

I just realized that we all pretty much think alike with this project.
Original design is just impossible to work on its own, place the target either to a side or make it the frame. I was hoping to see a clever workaround for the problem..
486  Economy / Services / Re: Bounty 0.1BTC+ - Need Graphic Designer for my logo (see picture inside) on: February 11, 2014, 04:37:16 PM
Good luck everyone.
I like gjeric approach on the original concept, but it is quite hard to fill the negative space with that one, that's why I decided to take a different approach.

The target could be more translucent and in the background of the lettering to condense it more and elongate it...

but you will end up with the actual shape covering or being covered by the text, and that world defeat the purpose of it being in there in the first place.
There might be some clever way to make it work, I have a couple of years working as a designer and personally I just can't see it working like that.

I'm going with this 2:
Adding more stuff just doesn't feel right.

488  Economy / Services / Re: [BOUNTY] 200$ for the first to store 4 integers as 2 !!! on: February 11, 2014, 01:20:18 AM
I doubt this is possible. If someone can make it then he/she can sell it for much more.
He is asking for a perfect lose-less compression method which is a holy grail.
Imagine you can do that, you will be able to make 10TB fit in as little as 2 unsigned integers.
The request here is basically a guaranteed 50% or more lose-less compression.
(a philosopher's stone is a better analogy)

Since it is branding what you want.
This is my entry, I hope you like it. (A signature like logo)

Hey gogodr.  Thanks for the entry but I am hoping for a symbol that can stand on it's own either with or without words.
That's quite hard to do, I'm sorry but you are asking for the impossible here.
There is no way a designer can come up with a logo without a concept behind it.
If the concept behind is a person (which is what I thought), then the logo should represent his main activity. Without the main activity the only link in between a person and a logo is a signature or his face.
I'm sorry but if you can't provide that information and don't want a signature like brand logo, I must withdraw.
I'm not criticizing you, it is a valid thing to not know what you want, but the only way I can see you picking any logo is for a couple of amateurs or designers with free time willing to give shots in the dark with this.
I'm sorry, but I don't work like that.

Could you show the logo?
I find it pretty hard to top PolishVodka's entry.

Just look at these http://www.flickr.com/photos/sebastiancoria

He won hands down.  Smiley
can't judge a logo vs a portfolio.
Well, its your pick. I hope you did the correct thing, Cheers.

I think you might find this one more appealing

I do kinda like that design!  The letter spacing on it is good, but I think it could be a little more polished.

However, I don't exactly like the target on it as it looks like it's ripping off the Target (retailer) logo.

I'm going for the target hash which is the hash that solves a block.  So maybe adding in the cross-hairs would make it stand out a little better.

yeah, I'm not satisfied with the target, that's why I added a second one that resembles more of a crosshair, I'll deviate a little more on that concept.

SERPCO, does it have a meaning behind?
is the CO from corporation? or stands for anything at all?
What do you want to portray with the logo?
What kind of activities do you intend to represent with that logo?
Maybe you don't want it to represent anything and want to build a brand out of it?

-Just a couple of questions that could really help before starting to work on it.
496  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [Project Concept] E-Sports Betting Site (similar to sports betting) on: February 10, 2014, 05:05:16 AM
This wont take off if you think small.
You need to have most of the MLG tournaments in mind. That's what will bring you players.
Dota2, LoL, Hon, Smite, Stracraft 2, CS:GO, TF2, CoD, PES, FIFA, Madden, NBA2k14.
We really could use a project like this, There are no betting websites for e-sports and people are willing to pay for it. I'm pretty sure of it.
If you really want to see this through, get ready to make a good investment. It is a go big or go home thing.

When I first saw your post and took the time to look at your links I thought it was a joke.
now that you bump it..
I hope you realize that you are quite bad at music composition, it shows that you have no background whatsoever in music.
Pleasem, learn the basics before even thinking about making money out of music.
498  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Counterfeit-proof Physical Bitcoins on: February 09, 2014, 03:52:52 PM
:O ! nice
I love to see that you are already into it.
Did you solve the counterfeiting? Because there was a problem. If you sell one then some other guy can make copies with the same information. If they are high price coins it is bound to happen.
My method to fix it, is to make an electronic wallet inside of the coin and a couple of LEDs, one to let you know if it is connected to the network, a button to run the algorithm , a LED to show error and another for success.
The algorithm is: have 2 wallets inside that coin and make they send signed messages in between each other (just an incremental number). You can then see one of the wallets and press the button, if there is a change then it is the real deal.

The system is not impossible, but it is quite hard to make in small scale.
499  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: What is wrong with this JavaScript code ? on: February 06, 2014, 08:26:23 PM
yep, pretty much that.
Also the fact that you don't wait for your request to finish before sending another one.
you can handle GET requests way more easier using Jquery and you can use a callback when you get a response.
That would be a better way to make an asynchronous recursive function like the one you want.
