Does anyone in the community here know who the OP is ?
5  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Bad "good" news. on: May 17, 2019, 05:56:53 PM
Friends, the news background on the crypto market has been very active lately, and in a rather positive way, but not every good news is true. How does this affect your investments and strategy on the market? How to protect against fakes?

Any news is good news, trust me.

--snip--

You're ignoring the fact that his software is a complete joke, show me one instance where someone has successfully used this, all I see is people being scammed by commentators on the bin.

--snip--

How naive are you? This is a complete joke of a program and will not help anyone it is a not a feasible means to recover your password.

Ok... We started namecalling... Sure, why not... Let's go there.

Well... I have NEVER said that people won't get scammed... Ofcourse scammers jump on any opportunity or technology that isn't well understood trying to scam innocent users... btcrecover is no exeption. I'm pretty sure the OP will get several offers of people wanting to help him that are, in fact, scammers without even bringing any tool into the conversation.

I never said btcrecover is the holy grail, i never said it's the go-to application, i even clearly stated that for a strong, random password the odds of finding the password are very low. Sure, there are better tools out there, but i have used btcrecover in the past and i found it pretty easy to run, so from time to time i do give this as one of the potential options a user can try so he doesn't have to give his wallet.dat to a thirth party.

I don't think tools like these have many success stories anyways... It's pretty hard to brute force a password, so i guess most people that try never succeed, and people that succeed only very seldomly post their success story. Only the people that try and fail start to ask questions. I'm not naive, i'm a realist.

I did use this tool myself, and since i have no stake in this question (i'm not trying to charge the op for brute forcing his password), i do hope i'm a credible witness (i'm sure you'll disagree, but i don't really care). If not, i did a quick google and did find this story: https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover/issues/286
I know this proves nothing, but at least you can't say the tool doesn't work at all.

I'm not affiliated with btcrecover, the OP is free to chose whatever tool or person he wants... Based on your last post i can only assume you claim to have found a weakness in the way bitcoin core implemented wallet encryption (since you bring up the fact you claim to have 7 years of C++ and reverse engineering experience, i can only assume you're not planning on brute forcing the password).
Eventough i haven't seen proof of any of your claims, i wish you the best, and if you're for real and did find an exploit, you'll have a much better chance of helping the op than anybody with a brute force tool... But for now you'll have to understand it's a big if, i haven't seen any proof...

Good luck, i have no intention to keep bickering with you, so i'll remove this topic from my watchlist and hope the OP makes a wise decission.

Sorry if I offended your pathetic suggestion of a tool called " BTC RECOVER "

I think the name speaks for itself how foolish it sounds.

I'm not going to provide any in-depth details on how I would recover OP's password (when nearly $20k is being offered as a reward) , I will not need his wallet file and I'll gladly use a moderator or middleman through the entire process.

If OP reaches out to me, I am willing to provide a real solution for 1 BTC and willing to use a moderator or any trusted middle man here to provide a Proof of Concept, as I see there are several users here all facing the same issue.

If so I can help you, I have 7 years of experience in C++ and Reverse Engineering I have also helped several people and companies recover their lost passwords and wallets.

I'll explain it really easy for you.

Post the txt file that contains his password and the other 5,000,000 combination incorrect passwords.

Where do you get these 5,000,000 incorrect passwords from? The op didn't mention he had a list of 5,000,000 passwords and only one is/was correct... If he had an ascii file with 4999999 incorrect passwords and 1 correct one, i would defenately have pointed him towards btcrecover... Using such a small password file would have been pretty easy.

Even if his password is only 9 characters long (lower, upper, nuber, special), there would have been 572,994,802,228,616,704 combinations... Where do you get 5.000.000?

You're ignoring the fact that his software is a complete joke, show me one instance where someone has successfully used this, all I see is people being scammed by commentators on the bin.

Example:

How naive are you? This is a complete joke of a program and will not help anyone it is a not a feasible means to recover your password.
9  Economy / Services / Re: Lost password from bitcoin core. Help is needed. Award 3 btc on: May 17, 2019, 02:04:44 PM
The "btcrecover" is not an option and merely a false hope to whoever has lost their bitcoins, in theory when explained it sounds good. But that's it, it just sounds good.

I have used other methods and done so successfully but if anyone here expects me to go ahead and post a proof of concept when there is 3 BTC being offered as a reward, you're sadly mistaken.

Can you tell me what sounds good when i initially explained btcrecover in this very thread.. Here is how i explained the OP's odds:

BTW: there is no magic trick for recovering a wallet.dat password. It's basically always brute-forcing, so the easyer your password was, or the more you know about your password, the higher the odds it can be recovered. If you picked a strong password and you have no clue as to what it might be (or contain), the odds of recovering a password are very, very, very small, even if you use a "professional" recovery service.

And i still stand by my words... I have used btcrecover on my own wallets in the past, but i had a relatively decent idear about what my password might have been... I clearly stated that if the OP has no clue, and he chose a relatively strong password, his odds are very, very, very small...

I'll explain it really easy for you.

Post the txt file that contains his password and the other 5,000,000 combination incorrect passwords, I'm sure this "btcrecover" you are referring to is some poorly coded brute forcing tool.
10  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Old blockchain.info stuck on: May 17, 2019, 01:55:14 PM
Are you offering any type of reward?

Do you still own the computer you first created the wallet on?

Do you own another device you have used previously to log into this wallet?

If so I can help you, I have 7 years of experience in C++ and Reverse Engineering I have also helped several others recover their lost passwords and wallets.

Let me know,

I wish I'm good at this, this is a very rewarding task. 3 BTC is a huge money for now.

Good luck to whoever can recover this and to you OP, you might be holding more money on that wallet.

If you are done with your useless post then let me be real to op. Hi you will not get your money from this wallet. Either because you are lying and you are the thief in the first place. Sorry if that offends you. Or simply because brute forcing the password of a btc core wallet has never been successful and would take hundreds of years ( at the least ) for a decently strong password.
Hard to ignore this, so who do you side with in this situation

You can always try to setup https://github.com/gurnec/btcrecover or pay somebody to write you a walktrough on how to get btcrecover running...
I could do a walkthrough of btcrecover as I have done something similar before, in spite it been for the bitsend project.

If OP is comfortable with this I can start but will require an escrow be setup and funds will be released after completion.

Would help if you could post some more details and what you are trying to achieve.

I have sent you email. please check sir  Smiley
I'm an honest person and won't scam you, and can pay when my work is done  Smiley
Your trust summary says otherwise mate, have you ever recovered any wallets before, if so post the details you have done to help someone recover the accounts.
The only realistic solution is to write down your known passwords and ask someone else's help so that you can run a script with many combinations and if you are lucky you can unlock your coins. Even if someone send you something make sure you scan them before opening it and try to recover yourself as you really do not need to be a tech savvy to try that.

I have several years of experience in this exact field, I can assure you it is possible if the user still has the computer where he frequently used the wallet or first created it, I'm going to respond for the user you quoted but if you can see clearly he is offering an award of 3 BTC.

It would be quite foolish of me to provide hints, tips, or prior methods used to recovery the password/wallet in this scenario wouldn't it.

I can't speak for the user above, but I myself, have recovered over 100 lost passwords/wallet keys for people and businesses.
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can't find the option to enable messages from "newbies" on: May 17, 2019, 11:15:28 AM
Go to your profile then choose "personal message options".

You can now enable/disable messages from newbies.

Thanks, I appreciate your speedy response.. can you enlighten me on updating my avatar or is this restricted as well for the time being?
15  Other / Beginners & Help / Can't find the option to enable messages from "newbies" on: May 17, 2019, 11:05:23 AM
User 'XXXXXX' is a newbie, but your options are set such that you cannot receive PMs from newbies. Therefore, you cannot send PMs to newbies, either.

Looked just about everywhere I could.

17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Paid for Copper Membership ( Private Message Delay ) ? on: May 17, 2019, 10:06:06 AM
Look at this:

ActivityMax recipientsMax recipients if whitelistedMax PMs per hourMax PMs per hour if whitelistedMax PMs per dayMax PMs per day if whitelisted
02101402120
15310104015120
30510104030120
1007142080150600
25015301201203001200
500303012012012001200

You are automatically whitelisted if you buy a copper membership. You don't need to wear the copper membership, just own it. You can also be whitelisted for free by any staff member and a few non-staff, but we're going to need some reason to think that you actually deserve it. Do not ask me for free whitelisting.

Whitelisting is a not a license to spam. You will be immediately banned if you're found spamming, even if you bought a copper membership (and you will not be refunded).

combined with this:

By popular demand, newbies can now pay to have some of their restrictions lifted. If you pay the fee, you become a Copper Member, and you can post images. That's the main point of this: allowing newbies to post images. Additionally (and these might change depending on how things go), Copper Members currently have these bonuses:

- Some of the same permissions as Member-rank members, such as reduced signature styling restrictions. (But none of the PM-related restrictions are currently lifted, such as the style limit or per-hour PM limit.)
[...]

The PM limit is going to be raised as you increase in rank. Your copper membership won't lift these limits.

I appreciate the quick response, seems like the Copper membership was a bit misleading, when it stated "may"
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Paid for Copper Membership ( Private Message Delay ) ? on: May 17, 2019, 09:58:10 AM
I purchased the Copper membership to message some people specifically I wanted to reach out to, before I bought it the page stated it may increase your ability to send a message more than once every hour?

Can someone shine some clarification on this, is there a minimum post count to remove the cool down?
19  Economy / Services / Re: I will find for you any lost or stolen phone ! on: May 17, 2019, 09:26:18 AM
