221  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Sending BTC - Priority Protocol on: June 27, 2011, 03:19:24 PM
I'm using the latest client for Mac OSX v0.3.23

and I usually have 8 connections within a few minutes after starting the client.
(I also had 8 connections today and yesterday the whole time)

As far as I know there are no means to get info about how many connections in- and outbound I have via the 8 connections that are shown.

All connections are inbound and outbound, as in, I can send and receive.

A client opens 8 connections to other clients, and allows other clients to connect to it. If you do not have ports forwarded correctly, others cannot connect to you, only you to them. Try ticking the enable UPNP box in your bitcoin client's settings, and then restarting. It should allow you to get more than 8 ocnnections, although this depends on your setup.

UPDATE YOUR CLIENT!
Tongue

It'll be reduced to 0.0005 (Or 0.005, I can't remember Tongue)

Dumb question here — how do I do that without losing my current wallet contents and transaction history etc? Do I just install the latest client version over the top of the existing one?
It'll be fine, although, you should definitely make backups, just in case!

%appdata%\bitcoin\wallet.dat, backup that file. It's the important one. Smiley

(It might be %appdata%\roaming\bitcoin\wallet.dat, can't remember what %appdata% points to)

I'd like to buy 1 PLEX (EVE online) with BTc... anyone selling?
224  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Solution: How to shift the decimal on: June 26, 2011, 10:50:25 PM
Sounds like a really good plan to me. I tried to tip you - just 0.01 BTC, which is ... hey ... 10000 uBTC ... but: My client (0.3.21 on Mac) keeps telling me:

Quote
This transaction is over the size limit. You can still send it for a fee of 0.01, which goes to the nodes that process your transaction and helps to support the network. Do you want to pay the fee?

No, I don't want to pay a 0.01 fee just to send 0.01 to someone.

Any ideas what's going on here?

Is it just my browser that has spell check? LOL...on a side note...if it is built to the site why does the word Bitcoin trigger a misspell.  BTW...its collapse and miners don't trigger it...panic sellers do (combined with a bunch of traders speculating on low prices)...there is a very clear line at $17 and $20 the problem is a bunch of small sells in the $15 range keeping the price where it is...if everyone sold at $17+ it would take about 15 minutes to get up to that price...then a few more hours to get up to $20 (just a guess based on volume...obviously I am speculating).  I think the shift is coming and it will be positive...maybe I am being optimistic...playing the game is fun though.

OT: You really shouldn't rely on spell-checking... Sad
226  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Official Bitcoin Unicode Character? on: June 26, 2011, 09:17:32 PM
I think the lower case "b" in a circle is perfect since bytes use a capital "B" (i.e. 23 MB) and bits use a lowercase "b" (1024 Mbps). So the lowercase "b" would be the "bit" and the circle would be a coin.  Grin

That's impeccable logic, and I agree with you that this would be an excellent symbol (if a symbol is needed). It's easily remembered, easily handwritten, and already present in Unicode.

Few issues with Eve today, the Mac client is being an absolute nightmare.

I'm trying a reinstall from an old Tyrannis version and manual patching.

Anyone who's bought PLEX's or ISK, they will be delivered as soon as I can get this up and running; if you want your BTC back instead, just ask and I'll send you a refund.

I guess you've tried/are trying http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1533189 , since you link to that(well, one which links to) thread?

Selling ISK still? As PLEX, or as ISK?

I prefer to sell as PLEX to make it harder to trace, and yeah I'm still selling.

how much for 1 plex.

Says it in the top post, 0.72 although I don't know if that needs updated. (Based on a PM discussion! Tongue)

Betting he bought these from ariapc.co.uk? (due to Free DIRT 3, I think they're doing that?)

learn to read - Item location: Minneapolis, MN, United States

Why would someone from the US be buying from the UK? The cards are more expensive here - what you save in VAT you only end up paying for in international shipping. Also many mid to high end cards get bundled with free games. The promotions are run by the card manufacturers in conjunction with the game devs, not the sites.
Everyone's complaining of everything being sold out in the US Tongue

233  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where is Mt Gox's office in Tokyo? on: June 24, 2011, 11:55:32 AM
I would be quite worries about that happening if I was running mt.gox. Basically you have an office with $15M in cash lying around (considering mt.gox controls 500k BTC). Anyone can walk in and force mt.gox to transfer all those BTC's to his wallet and there is absolutely nothing he can do to either get those funds back or try to find out the identity of that thief.
A normal bank doesnt have $15M in cash in their vaults and they are much better secured then 2 nerds in a communal office building.

I doubt that a normally prudent person would have the wallet file/s for all of those btc in their office all in one place.

Then again... MtGox... Just look under the doormat  Tongue

apparently they do.
he was asked on IRC to transfer 400kBTC to proove he still has control over it. he did, an hour later.

you think he went to his bank locker to impress some IRC guys?
Yes, it wasn't to impress people. It was to prove he could still ocntrol the funds.

"In Soviet Union in 1988 there were alternating current transmission lines on 1150kV with huge transformers which have developed in the end of 1960-1970,and 1500kV of a direct current. In America till now only 500kV and an electric network of 110V instead of 220-240V,as in Russia and all countries of Europe, the former USSR for reduction of a current strength. Not clearly, what for in America such strange standard, and 60 Hz instead of 50 Hz and only 110V?!!! In Russia 230/400V (220/380V) 50Hz.
Stupid Americans! This intended short circuit of a phase wire on the earth of a transmission line of 500 kilovolt a thin wire by means of the fishing scaffold thrown through a wire. What computer graphics?! Not without reason in the USSR there was the best formation. The iron wire in diameter of 4 mm forming on air a smoke of brown color evaporates. Click after short short circuit-inclusion of automatic repeated inclusion of a line. Morons."

238  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC hit 120 PLN, (217/156 as valuable as MtGox high) - did anyone notice? on: June 22, 2011, 05:15:13 PM
I was, referring to two things, as stated... peaks, which are obviously more long term, and current values. Recently, PLN BTC value has been higher then USD BT value, when converted.

Peak was just an unimportant thing I found interesting, I guess the higher value is the more important of the two? That does not mean that I cannot make a statement about peak.

(And the "did anyone notice" is because I saw no mention of this when it actually did happen, so it is still relevant also in that sense.)

I'd prefer not to have this degenerate into a flame war, however I fel it is already headed in that direction. I just can't resist... arguing! Cheesy
239  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC hit 120 PLN, (217/156 as valuable as MtGox high) - did anyone notice? on: June 22, 2011, 04:30:10 PM
Not sure how you trade if you dont even know how bitcoinwatch works.

The value of bitcoinwatch is allready in PLN for bitomat, that isnt $ value.

It is however trading decently but not as aggresive as your post.

49.20 PLN   =   17.8079 USD

You should put TL;DR if you can't be bothered to read.

120PLN, converted to USD, is greater than 31USD.

I even listed currency conversions. You sir, fail.

(I do admit I avoided referencing dollars, intentionally, as much as possible, to avoid being dollar-centric, as many are, and I have become, on the subject of bitcoins.) Sad

edit: (And you can't do math? 217/156 is obviously nowhere near 120/31 Tongue)

edit 2: Maybe my first post isn't that clear, I've addressed two subjects - peaks, and current value.
240  Economy / Economics / BTC hit 120 PLN, (217/156 as valuable as MtGox high) - did anyone notice? on: June 22, 2011, 04:11:47 PM
TL;DR: Read it, I'm not writing a TL;DR. If you can't be bothered to read it, don't reply to it. :/

120PLN is FAR more than the MtGox high... (If you use days, the high is ~95... but still more!)

It seems polish people are more confident in bitcoin than americans, they have a higher peak (yes, I did conversions :/), and currently, even when most places are low, are trading at about the same value as Mt Gox traded at before the hax flash crash thingy)! Smiley

Even us British people are more confident than TH's current value, BTC at ~10GBP, which is ~16/14 as valuable as TH!

If you look at dollar values, these are 43.4(120 PLN), 34.4(95PLN), and 16.1(10GBP).

Data from bitomat and britcoin.

These markets are also more stable. (Although one could say that britcoin shouldn't count, due to its ultralow volume.... It did temporarily hit 100GBP on a micro-bit trade, for example! Tongue)

Discuss!(And shout at me?)

edit: Edited for clarity.
