381  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Importance of Knowledge for Coin Trading on: September 01, 2018, 12:45:17 PM
What the crypto world needs more is education. That is why a website like yours will always be welcome. I clicked around the site and found some useful stuff for beginners. The overview of basic exchange features is very good. Enough to get the beginners going. Users will more experience will probably need more detailed information, but I can imagine how hard it must be if you are a newbie in the crypto world. Keep up the good work.
382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why token pay for listing of exchangers on: September 01, 2018, 12:11:10 PM
This explains it all
Project with purpose and good motives with a proper roadmap bringing solution to the masses would be lesser fees
Actually I would say if the token is genuine and comes with totally fair distribution of tokens, no fees at all. But if the scam-token-developers shamelessly keep 20 percent of tokens or more for themselves, I have nothing against them being ripped off by the exchange listing fees.
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 6400% price up..wtf!!! Anyone noticed this coin on: September 01, 2018, 11:57:58 AM
it's useless if it's currently rising and when investors start investing, prices will go back down 6400% haha
Typical case of pump and dump. I wonder why is this worth anyone's attention. The name suggest that this one of the new tokens linked to gold. Is there a reason why they have so small total supply of coins? Is this maybe correlated with the amount of gold in their possession.
384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why token pay for listing of exchangers on: September 01, 2018, 09:53:20 AM
In an ideal world it would not be necessary. But we don't live in an ideal world. The exchanges want to make more money. But there are positive examples too. Some exchanges won't list a crypto even if payed a lot of money. For example Binance's CEO said,

Quote

We don't list shitcoins even if they pay 400 or 4,000 BTC. ETH/NEO/XRP/EOS/XMR/LTC/more listed with no fee. Question is not “how much does Binance charge to list?” but “is my coin good enough?”  It’s not the fee, it's your project!  Focus on your own project!
https://twitter.com/cz_binance/status/1028190371719786496?lang=en

One more thing worth to mention. If the cryptocurrency had a fair start, if there were no premine, no developers fee, how would it pay, who would pay? Say bitcoin was not listed on some exchange, who would pay the listing fee?
385  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did crypto affect your studies? on: September 01, 2018, 09:42:55 AM
I can't tell anything in general, but for me learning about crypto, finding time for bounties, and trading on exchanges takes a lot of time. These activities are not the only activities I have in my life. I can hardly keep up and manage everything.
Quote from: Dacosta Osei-Tutu
I also started crypto when I was a student and surprisingly i had my best results that semester. This is because that was when I learnt time management.
If your time management system is working, please share it with us. What I am interested is for example how many hours a day you have set aside for crypto related activities?
386  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Do Not be Greedy on: August 31, 2018, 08:56:01 PM
In my opinion, the best time to sell is when the market price of the coin is 20%+ higher than the market price at which you bought the coin.
Yes if you invest and hold over a longer periods of time. But if you day trade, the margin for profit can be much smaller. Even a gain of 0.5-3 percent can make a difference if you are good at day trading. Experienced trades can make a good profit even with such small profit margins.
387  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What do you think of Arbitrage Opportunity platforms? on: August 31, 2018, 08:45:31 PM
But today I rarely see people doing arbitrage and surely it was because of fees, confirmation time and the service of the exchange itself. At some of the cases, exchanges does have a delays in deposits and withdrawals
This. Because of these problems arbitrage is hard to pull off in practice. Even if you manage to find coins to trade. This part about finding suitable coins is not hard. You can use bots to make it automatic. But, when you go to trade the coins you have found, somewhere along the way you get stuck. On the fees, on the withdrawal times, or on something else. Maybe I'm wrong, but do you know anybody who uses arbitrage for crypto successfuly?
388  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Scarcity doesn't always mean value on: August 31, 2018, 05:49:46 PM
I guess it depends on the case. I can give you a contra example. Same post stamps are valuable because of scarcity but have no utility value at all. So what matters at the end of the day is how many people are willing to pay for what you have. If there are many people who find something that you possess valuable, you are in a good position. You are even in a better position if your possession is scarce.
389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CBOE Launch Ethereum futures. on: August 31, 2018, 05:21:57 PM
I can only say that it looks promising not only for ETH but for the entire crypto space. CFTC currently reviewing the ETH futures reminded me of SEC reviewing the bitcoin ETF. The drawback to this seems to be the high centralization of ETH token holders:

https://etherscan.io/token/tokenholderchart/0x6e01ee36b522a824609b7f7dfb5e4aa8fbb48934

The quoted article hints that the next step after releasing ETH futures is working on ETH exchange traded fund. I don't care much about ETH but again, it may be good for ETH holders and the entire space.
390  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: what is the best airdrop? on: August 31, 2018, 03:16:19 PM
Yeah man. Stop doing airdrops. You are wasting your time on meaningless activities that don't bring anything to you. You can use your time to really make a meaningful contribution somewhere. For example I see that you are participating in a signature campaign. So make a meaningful contribution to this forum by making better posts. You will improve your writing, help others, and someone may even notice your effort and in time you will rank up and earn more. Take part in other types of campaign, like content or translation. They will make you more money and your time will also not be wasted. Good luck.
391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: New EOS Bug Steals Resources Directly From Users on: August 31, 2018, 03:05:51 PM
That's not a bug. That's a so-called "feature". You can't patch that.
Maybe they need another round of ICO for another $4 billion in order to patch the bugs. Just kidding. The problem with EOS and similar coins is that you cannot solve fundamental problems by throwing money at developers, not if the idea is flawed from the start. It doesn't work that way. All it takes is just one genius who can outperform teams and teams of developers.
392  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: predict about total marketcap 2019 on: August 31, 2018, 02:02:09 PM
I like to think it is possible, but not in just one year. The reason why I think it is possible is the situation in the other money markets. If you take a look at them you will see that the other markets are much much larger than the crypto market. Therefore when you are asking about 15-20 times growth, why not. It is possible. The more institutions realize the potential of the crypto, the more they will invest in it. But it will probably take more than just one year.
393  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Which is your favorite cryptocurrency related website besides BitcoinTalk? on: August 31, 2018, 01:54:32 PM
My favorite sites that I use often are www.coindesk.com coinlib.io and tradingview.com. I just want to add that you should be careful when using any information for trading. All these websites may be biased or may receive money from ICOs to market their projects. It would be wise to cross check and verify the info here on bitcointalk.org. If you stay on this forum long enough you will be able gain experience and tell if some information is accurate or not.
394  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin to ETH ? on: August 31, 2018, 12:46:07 PM
Here are my thoughts: When the market is bearish like now it is better to hold BTC. When the market is Bullish like it was at the start of 2018, it was better to hold ETH or other altcoins. The reason is in bearish markets bitcoin loses much less than most of the altcoin. In bullish markets some alcoins, not all of them, can bring higher gain, percentage wise, than bitcoin. You might be better off if you hold the winner alts in bullish markets.
395  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Advice needed: 80k USD mining adventure on: August 30, 2018, 04:43:27 AM
What to buy?
Whatever you choose to buy from ASIC equipment you should make sure that you return the major part of your investment in the first 6 month or so. ASIC are known to quickly lose from their profitability, so the point is to buy new hardware that will pay off quickly.
396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Just received 0.5 ETH from 0x5ea0320a86df62865978c67137f7aa19d4fe4d77. WHO ??? on: August 29, 2018, 10:14:42 AM
This kind of situation poses a moral dilemma (or trilemma). Is the money earned, gifted by some strange act of kindness, or transferred to the receiver's address by mistake. If the third is indeed the case, the receiver should probably transfer the money back to the sender minus a finder's fee (10-20 percent). The equivalent of finding a wallet on the street and based on the ID of the original owner returning it back to the owner.
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Cryptoa — First Hybrid Exchange on: August 29, 2018, 07:03:32 AM
I quickly looked at their website and my first thought was they have to go a long way to establish themselves. Competition is getting harder by the minute. No fee trading is not enough to stand out among the other exchanges. Will they have a subscription plan to compensate for the lack of fees? It is not clear who will use the DEX features and who will use the CEX features, why both at the same exchange. What is the main advantage of this hybrid system, why it is important to have it? Its not clear to me.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Bounty Hunter Problem on: August 29, 2018, 05:23:37 AM
And, to add to this, if a coin can't cope with the amount of coins given away for free, then it's time to re-think your marketing strategies, not following the rest of the herd to get a bounty campaign going.
Very well said. Sadly, most of the ICOs have no marketing strategy at all. I think their only strategy is to raise money no matter what, and these campaigns appear to be a convenient way to achieve that cheaply. I have participated in a couple of ICOs and I have experienced first hand what you describe as bounty hunters dumping the coins immediately. There is a constant fear that the price is going to go down. If the project is legitimate, the price will go down for a short period of time, followed by a rise. But not all projects are legitimate. To prevent this, an ICO may choose to issue the bounty rewards sequentially, but I don't see happening often.
399  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Cardano (ADA) Price, Information and Speculation Discussion Topic on: August 28, 2018, 09:09:22 PM
The OP didn't specify the time frame for this prediction. It really depends on the time frame, as with any other currency. So I voted for $5 considering a time period of up to 4 or 5 years. It may go to $20 in the longer run, but $20 would already translate into a marketcap of $500 B, which in my opinion is not realistic in the near future. The prices beyond that are practically impossible, although one never knows how this whole space is going to develop.
400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The harder they fall, the faster they rise on: August 28, 2018, 08:50:20 PM
What you are telling might be true for the ICOs with real projects backing them and for those with the best and most gifted teams. It may not be true for most of the ICOs. If we think of an ICO as a startup project, we should remind ourselves that the success rate of most startup business is low. No reason to think of ICOs in any other way. The failure rate of American startup companies is over 50 percent in 5 year time, and I don't see how this can be different with blockchain startup projects. Only the best will survive in the long run, so we have to make sure we don't invest in the wrong ones.
