3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 07, 2014, 04:33:23 AM
I have a question about Arbitrary Messages feature. Let's say someone developed an instant messaging service and used NXT as the backbone for it. And millions of people used it, wouldn't the block chain quickly get so huge that it would be impractical?
Since I assuming all the messages, which can be up to 1,000 bytes, are stored in the block chain. Of course it would generate a nice chunk of transactions fees for the people running nodes.

8  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Residential Limit 15amp or 20amp? on: February 27, 2014, 05:23:06 PM
I just had 2 of these 30 amp 240 volt lines with 10 gauge wiring installed and running the APC 9571 PDU on each of them. This past weekend when the temperatures got in the 80s the circuit breakers got really warm (I could still hold my hand to them, but barely) to the touch and the plugs at the wall were each very warm. Should I be worried about this? I can't imagine what will happen when the temps get up to 100 degrees. Now that it's cooled off again everything is nice and cool. I'm running 19 amps on each one.

19amps? as in you measured it?

Also, What does the outdoor temp matter? Do you not air condition your house?

Yes I measured it with one of those things with a claw that goes over the wire and tells you the amperage. The fuse box is outside and I set the AC to 85. How does any of this help answer my question?

10  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to calculate Total Network Hash Rate? on: February 13, 2014, 02:39:49 AM
Thanks for everyone's replies, gives me a good jumping off point. Who would have guessed all that math you learn in college could actually have a use.
11  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / How to calculate Total Network Hash Rate? on: February 12, 2014, 06:05:35 PM
I'm trying to understand how to calculate the total network hash rate for a coin.
The only thing I could think of was taking the average time that blocks are being found and derive it from that.
Is there any other way to do it?

My other related question is what is the formula that is used to compute difficulty, or actually projected difficulty?
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTC] Vertcoin - Adaptive N-factor in Scrypt - No more ASICs on: February 09, 2014, 07:17:03 PM
Just a note: small miners are better off with MPOS pool.
Why? Less variance?
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][VTC] VERTCOIN NEW LOGO - Vote now! on: February 08, 2014, 06:04:22 PM
Some of these are really bad.
You must have seen the new logo someone on reddit made. It's looks way better than any of these options, sorry to be negative.

Is cryptsy still having deposit issues with VertCoin? I made a deposit 10 hours ago and it hasn't even showed up in 'pending' yet. What are other people's current experience?
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / p2pool - switching nodes on: February 04, 2014, 09:22:07 PM
I read that it takes 24 hours of continuous mining to ramp up to full payments in the pplns system used. If you switch nodes does this start over? Or since your using the same wallet address does it not matter what node your mining from?
