1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: September 08, 2016, 05:58:32 PM
from website:
"All 21 million coins have been generated (April 2011 - October 2014)"

so no mining ??

Never mind - I found the blog.

No more minting, all coins have been minted but the coin is currently being merge mined.

Two years after new coin generation stopped and the prediction of immanent doom for iXcoin still hasn't happened!

As you can see:

http://cryptoron.weebly.com/free-crypto-faucets.html

Ixcoin has another empty faucet:

http://www.cryptoblox.com/faucets/iXcoin/

So I just sent 100 IXC even there.

Should we keep 2 faucets?

Let me know

Cryptoblox faucet is not working.  It's the one where I just lost 50 IXC, which is why I recommended a new one.

http://www.cryptoblox.com/faucets/iXcoin/

The 100 IXC you sent never appeared in the balance either.

They don't respond to emails.

Their iXcoin wallet is not synced with the block chain so any payouts will go nowhere, and donations won't make it to them.

They should be able to get it up and running again by simply restarting the client, but since they don't answer emails I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Looks like our faucet is dead.  I tried to add a few IXC and they never showed up.
http://www.cryptoblox.com/faucets/iXcoin/

We should look into getting another faucet going.  That will put the block chain to use and hopefully get more people involved with iXcoin.

This one looks good, but I haven't had time to contact them.  Maybe deadsea could look into it.

http://cryptoguru.tk

BE+Faucet - 0.01 BTC/month.
Let me know if I should go for it (selling ixc or waiting for btc donations)

$7 per month is the way I read it.
Go for it.  I'll send you some btc.

Just sent some BTC to deadsea for Cryptoguru's monthly fee (about 10 months worth).  Maybe we can use a couple hundred of our donated IXC to initially fill the faucet.  That will get us up and running.

How secure are these faucet sites, cause I see mostly worthless coins on there.  Is it a lot of work to have our own faucet site?  CryptoGuru.tk ain't got nothing on something like CryptoRush.com.

And I also believe Luke or Friction set up a faucet a while back but I don't remember what site.

There are pros and cons to having your own site.  Right now we don't have someone who can build and host an iXcoin faucet, so we don't have many choices.  A community faucet with many coins already has clients, so we'll get cross pollination from other coins and a quicker influx of new users.

Regarding security, well, we're giving away the coins on the faucet anyway.  So it's not like we'd be loosing anything if someone hacks the site.

My main concern with any faucet is how do we know how many different people are actually downloading coins.  If there are 50 drips per day, is that 50 different people or one person with 50 addresses.  But these are just the risks we take to increase our clientele.  Even if it's one guy, that's still one more user than we had before.

If mmpool can maintain a high hash then I guess this won't hurt as bad, although I'm sad to be losing CEX.

I'm sad too, cause hash is going to drop 90%.  Just saying there is a positive side to this and it's definitely not the end of iXcoin, maybe a new beginning.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: May 18, 2016, 05:46:38 AM

This is a material event so I have to announce it.

CEX.io is looking to dump their IXC.  It's a massive block, 600,000 IXC.

Did they announce this somewhere?

No.  They informed me personally to give the foundation the first chance to buy the block so they don't destroy the market.

Did they give you a price?

they said if the foundation doesn't want it for free then it's about tree fiddy Smiley

Are they really offering the foundation iXcoin for free?  Why not take it to use for bounties?  Isn't that what we've wanted to do with Nasakioto's original bounty stash we can't get our hands on?

Can you tell me the exact version you're using.  There have actually been several versions of 0.9.x released.
I use a 0.8.x version, a variant of this version. Only minor changes for pool features.

Above is another PM I'll share.  This one was from mmpool.

On the surface Cex.io ceasing mining sounds bad, but it may be a blessing in disguise.   mmpool is a much smaller pool but it will still maintain iXcoin's hash rate higher than 95% of the other altcoins.  So no problem with security.

More importantly, mmpool mines using version 0.8.x.  When Cex.io shuts down we should FINALLY be able to get the mining upgraded and off the ancient version 0.3.24 client!!!  F2Pool, Cryptsy and Cex.io were literally holding up this upgrade for years.  This could be a huge move forward, because new functionality can be added with newer mining clients that are impossible with the older client.

We've been planning to stop IXC mining on December, 1st, according to the following schedule: http://blog.cex.io/news/altcoins-removal-and-multipool-suspension-14762

However, some of our users need to withdraw IXC. Therefore, we have enabled mining, just for them to withdraw the funds. At the moment, we cannot tell, when the mining will be ultimately turned off.

This is what Cex.io told me about why they extended mining past last December.

You consider something else. The word bitcoin is progressively substituted with blockchain.
Nodes: btc is not the coin with the greater number of nodes anymore.
Volume: btc is still the n.1, but if it continues this way, it will not last.
Total cap: in a few months I am not sure btc will still be the n.1.
In conclusion, bitcoin will exist for a while, but I am not sure it will be the leading star.
Ixcoin depends on bitcoin, an advantage as long as btc stays strong.
Unless bitcoin innovates itself, new coins will fill the void generated by lack of constant innovation the financial system is asking. Bitcoin has still time to avoid the loss of its crown, all will be clear in a few months.

Bitcoin still has the most development, vendors and add-ons.  So I expect it to continue to be very strong for years to come, even if it drops out of the number 1 market cap position.

Killer news:

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/ghash-cex-scaling-back-mining-pool/

And now the price will fall

Dec 1st: end of IXC mining

Dec 15th: end of IXC trading

Thanks CEX.io, you have been of great support... In killing the coin.
I wish you the same.

Hahaha.  I'm crying and laughing at the same time.  It's like dancing with the devil when dealing with CEX.

Now I gotta hear Zebedee gloat.  I'm not sure which is worse.

This is the worst news possible at this point and I think getting dropped from Shapeshift had a lot more to do with this.  Lack of top security makes any coin worthless.

Cex.io scaling back their mining isn't new news.  They were supposed to stop mining iXcoin last December.

mmpool  ( http://mmpool.org/register ) is still mining iXcoin, and maybe other pools too.

Ixcoin has a big advantage by being a bitcoin clone. One example;

The iguana project by jl777 is a drop in replacement for bitcoind. It is also a multi coin wallet with decentralized trading. Ixcoin will be very easy to add to this wallet. Ixcoin will even be easier to add then litecoin and namecoin.

A big selling point should be, if bitcoin can do it, so can ixcoin.

Yes, and eventually Bitcoin will become too big, cumbersome and expensive.  It's block chain is already pushing 80 GB.  And how much more can devs increase the transaction rates?

So where is a good place to turn if you don't want to loose all the Bitcoin plugins... the Bitcoin clone.

14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: May 11, 2016, 04:27:29 AM
I know iXcoin hasn't exactly had great public reception to date, but I think its day will come.

I would describe events to date like so...

Since the altcoin creation boom began we've been in an era of 'crypto innovation'.  At this time many people look only for very innovative new coins.  Those with unique algorithms, more anonymity, smart contracts, or that ether stuff.  These are the enthusiasts who are investing at this time.

Eventually, probably within 1-2 years, I think we will see a different breed of investors, more from the general masses, not the enthusiasts.  Those who want safety.  Those who are escaping their fiat currencies, and they will come in much larger numbers.  As world economies grow shakier the altcoin world will serve as a great refuge for personal savings.  We've already seen countries like Cyprus, Greece, Puerto Rico and others on the brink of bankruptcy.  I'm expecting more in the future, and with fewer bail outs.  Our time is actually unique because there exists these crypto life boats that people can escape to.  Past citizens were doomed to sink with their own country's currency and economic plight.

When investors start looking more toward safety than innovation the likes of iXcoin will become more popular.  iXcoin isn't experimenting with risky new ideas.  It uses a time tested design.

At least that's my theory and I'm sticking with it  Grin

So no issues or rebuttals from the community about dropping the Coin from iXcoin?

Great!!!

We'll get that done for ya!

And I already have a nice meme in mind to propagate the change but I need to buy a nice sword first.  That's gonna take some creative financial engineering.

Cheers!

I'm actually not too kraizi about dropping the 'coin' from iXcoin.  I see it as causing confusion, especially since older posts are going to reference iXcoin and many in the community may keep the full name.  Will the exchanges change?  Plus we may get blow back from people thinking we're posing as a new coin.  But the biggest reason to keep the name the same is to show consistency.

tell that to Iris Lunis!!

Please elaborate.  Did someone have a problem with yobit or coinexchange.io?
I was referring to coinexchange.io since they added us with no apparant requests from the ixcoin community, but I don't have any experience yet with them.

19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: March 29, 2016, 03:15:53 AM
If the lack of volume continues, I will put the donated 3500 ixc on sale to fill the order books. All the btc got will be put as donations on the btc address. I would prefer not to. I am confidend you will start trading.

Update: 4500 ixc now. Thanks for the donation!!!!!! I knew you are a generous community.

For a new exchange to choose ixcoin as one of their first 25 coins shows they must really believe in it.  As far as I know the ixcoin community never asked them to add it.  Let's not let them down.  We need to use the exchange.

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ixcoin TODO on: March 29, 2016, 03:12:42 AM

What happens to ixcoin when yobit gets hacked and closes? Will ixcoin die then?

Ixcoin is more like a red headed step child to bitcoin, beaten and abused. Ie: beaten like a red headed stepchild.

We had zero exchanges for a month. Ixc didn't die. Anyway, we have 2 exchanges now.

...and ixcoin continues to have one of the highest hash rates of any crypto.  Most cryptos would only dream of such a hash rate.  ixcoin is still going strong.
